Chapter 111 What Did She Make You Do?!
Chapter One Hundred And Nine.
Kurt and Vera stopped dead on the sidewalk at the sound of those words.
There were shocked gasps from the crowd as well, as they turned to face Vera and Kurt and found them about to slink away from the crowd.
Nathan, who was on his way to his car, stopped in midstride and turned back to the scene, his brows drawn suddenly in interest.
The crowd could not help but point fingers and stare judgmentally at the couple who were trying to sneak away.
The fact that Kurt and Vera were seen actually trying to run away made things worse and at once, things turned away in their favour.
“What?! Is she for real?! Vera Hale did what?!”
Aria quietly stepped down from her car, just as Kurt and Vera were forced to turn back towards the crowd and Selena.
Vera had gone pale, and there were beads of sweat on her face. Her eyes darted from one end of the crowd to the other, taking notes of the judging eyes as well as the phones and cameras pointed at her.
Great, she was definitely cooked.
She felt like the earth was going to open up and swallow her, at that moment.
No, she wished for it.
Her eyes fell on Selena who was looking frantic as hell, her eyes pleading.
The sight of Selena and the words she’d just uttered caused a surge of anger to course through Vera.
That stupid, little bitch!
How could she call out her name so easily and so quickly? How could she fold so easily under pressure?
Well, there was nothing else to do at that moment except to deny it. And she would do that with fervor.
After all, she was Vera Hale, best friend of the late Elara Vaughn, and a national angel. Everyone would surely believe her over this Selena Beaumont, who goes about trying to get into circles that does not really suit her.
She clutched Kurt’s arm tighter, to his annoyance, and then pulled herself up straighter to her full height.
She narrowed her eyes at Selena, as though in disbelief, “What did you just say?” She asked calmly, “Selena Beaumont, are you sure you’re okay? Why would you involve me in this?”
Selena immediately started panicking.
She knew she was not supposed to call out Vera’s name so suddenly, as that would kind of make their newly found sisterhood sour, but she could not stand Lucian’s intimidating aura.
She felt like if she did not remove the weight of his gaze on her, she would definitely be turned to dust.
So she had bailed on Vera.
She rushed towards Vera and held her hands, “Sister can you please just help me out here?” She uttered in a pleading voice, “If you can just let Lucian know that you told me to do it…”
Vera pulled back her hands from hers in one swift move, and in the next instant, gave Selena a deafening slap.
The slap did not hurt Selena as much as it stunned her. It flung her aside, leaving her gasping from breath.
“Ooohh!” The crowd chorused in pity as Selena gingerly reached to touch her swollen cheek.
“How dare you try to implicate me in this?” Vera uttered in a loud voice, “Are you senile?! I don’t even know you!”
Selena had never been so shocked in her entire life as she had at that moment.
She blinked at Vera. “B…but…but you said…you asked me to do that. You did!”
Vera was so mad, she was literally about to crush Selena’s voice box when Lucian stepped up with Aria.
“Selena Beaumont, what did you mean Vera asked you to do this?” He asked in a commanding tone, “What exactly is this thing you say she forced you into?”
Kurt quickly stepped toward, “Lucian Graves, come on, you can’t believe what this silly girl is saying,” he said in a calm voice, “Vera is innocent in all this. Why, she does not even know this girl!”
“That’s right!” Vera spoke up, raising her chin haughtily, “Why would I associate myself with the likes of you? Selena Beaumont, you were trying to humiliate your sister earlier, right? Because you were jealous?”
Lucian and Aria looked from her to Selena who was slowly turning the color of beetroot at that accusation.
She could not believe Vera could be this despicable.
Even though the Beaumont family were not that affluent compared to the Vaughn family, they were still more important than a nameless woman who had only been the friend of another dead woman.
Selena may respect Vera a lot but at that moment, all she could see was betrayal. She was a girl spoilt rotten by her mother, and who had been treated like an egg her entire life.
To be slapped by someone like Vera made her blood boil with anger, and then accused wrongly was enough to make her explode.
And she did.
“You were the one who asked me to drug their drinks!,” she yelled at Vera pushing her roughly backwards, “Hell, you even provided the damn aphodisiac!”
Bingo!
Aria grinned devilishly as Selena uttered those words.
The crowd gasped at those words, and Selena realized only a little too late that she’d yelled out something that’s was not supposed to.
She had literally just admitted to committing a crime.
However, she maintained her defiant stance, glaring at Vera.
Vera had stumbled backwards when Selana had pushed her. Kurt had quickly reached out to start her and now she was facing Selena once more, breathing heavily.
Lucian was the first to speak, however, “You drugged my wife?!” He asked in a low growl.
Vera immediately shook her head, fear very much evident in her eyes, “No, I would never, Lucian!” She uttered with as much boldness as she could muster, “She’s obviously trying to set me up!”
“I am not!” Selena shot back, “You, Vera Hale, are behind all of this. You drugged Aria and Mr Zach. You wanted them to get into trouble together to humiliate Aria!”
