Chapter 130
Chapter 130
Still in Luna Isabella’s embrace, and seeing how happy they all were, Veronica just kept staring at them, as confused as ever.
“Not to be a killjoy, but will anyone be kind enough to tell me what is going on here?” She asked, her brow furrowed in confusion. “Because I'm really confused. I don't understand what all this excitement and joy is all about.” She stated, a look of perplexity settled on her face.
With tears of joy in her eyes, Luna Isabella pulled back to stare at Veronica for a short moment, and hugged her again, and seeing how emotional the atmosphere had gotten, Veronica just remained calm.
“My daughter. My princess. My child.” She heard Luna Isabella’s voice, and she was shocked, because she spoke to her through the mindlink.
Veronica quickly pulled away.
“Did you just say something?” She asked, unsure of what she had just heard.
“Yes, I did.” Luna Isabella replied with a broad smile, as she wiped her tears with a clean cloth, which her husband handed over to her.
“I think there's a mistake of some sort here. You just called me your….” Veronica tried to correct her.
“Daughter?” Luna Isabella asked her.
“Yes. That was what you said. That was what I heard. You called me your daughter.” Veronica confirmed, nodding her head.
“That is correct. I know what I said and the fact that you heard it makes it clearer that it's the truth.” Luna Isabella affirmed with a slight smile.
“How is that possible? Are you guys trying to take advantage of me?” Veronica began to panic, and she tried to move away from Luna Isabella.
“I know what you guys are trying to do. You want to take advantage of my situation and make me replace your child. Is that it?” She asked, shaking her head in disbelief.
Veronica was angry because she felt they were trying to fool her into stepping into their daughter’s shoes because they lost her years ago.
“No, we're not trying to take advantage of you and we're not using you to replace anyone.” Luna Isabella tried to explain to her. “You are indeed our daughter. You will only be taking your rightful place, you are not replacing anyone. We would never do such a thing to—”
“I don't believe you!” Veronica sprung to her feet, interrupting her. “I choose not to believe you guys. My parents abandoned me. They are dead to me! They rejected me because I wasn't what they wanted.” She said painfully.
“What?!” The Alpha and Luna exclaimed. They couldn't believe what they had just heard.
“Who told you such a terrible, and heart wrenching story?” Alpha Charles asked, completely shocked.
“I can't remember her. I don't even remember her name. I was really young.” She replied, trying to remember.
“But it doesn't matter. It doesn't change the fact that my parents abandoned me when I needed them most, making me go through hell, and I hate them for that!” She yelled angrily, her heart breaking into pieces as memories of the past began to flood into her mind.
She shook her head in refusal as he paced impatiently. “I'm not going to stay here and make you turn me into who I am not. Look, I'm grateful to you for saving my life, even though I would have loved that you allowed me to die once and for all.”
“But I really need to leave right now. This whole cooked-up story makes absolutely NO sense to me!” She shouted and immediately began to retreat slowly, but was shocked at Alpha Charles’ next action.
“Guards!” He yelled, and numerous guards rushed into the room. “Make sure she doesn't leave.” He ordered and they stood alert at the doors.
“What are you trying to do? Are you trying to keep me captive here?” She asked, obviously frightened by what had just happened.
“It will do you good if you allow me to leave as quietly as possible because if I stay here a little longer, calamities will begin to befall you all too.” She tried to threaten them, hoping that they would get out of her way once they heard about the calamities, but the guards were determined and could not disobey their Alpha’s orders.
“I lost you once and I'm not about to lose you again!” He yelled, and at that moment, those words felt like water quenching her thirst. It felt like butter, melting in the fire.
Although she became a bit calm, Alpha Charles still sensed her fear, and discomfort and ordered the guards to stand down.
He then stepped forward, a step at a time as slowly as possible, “Please calm down, Veronica. Just calm down, and I promise we'll explain everything to you. Every single detail you need to know.”
“Please.” Luna Isabella chipped in, tears in her eyes.
Despite being paranoid, Veronica could still sense the sincerity in their eyes and voices. And so she decided to hear them out.
She took a seat and they sat too, facing her.
“You can all leave now.” Alpha Charles ordered the guards, who immediately bowed and left the room in a single file.
“Should we leave too?” The doctor who had been silent all along, asked, and Alpha Charles nodded.
“Please leave for now. We'll send a messenger to you if there's a need for you.” He said to the doctor, who bowed and left.
Right after the doctor left with the nurse, silence filled the room.
Veronica suddenly coughed, breaking the awkward silence.
“Are you okay?” Luna Isabella asked her.
“Yes, I'm fine.. I'm just waiting to hear from you guys.” She answered, her eyes fixated on the polished floor.
“It happened nineteen years ago.” Alpha Charles began, “the whole pack was glad that the queen finally had a child. We celebrated. We were still wining and dining happily, when suddenly something unusual happened.”
“The weather suddenly changed, and the wind blew ferociously, disrupting the whole ceremony. And in just a few minutes everything was back to normal, but we didn't know that tragedy had struck until the queen screamed from the baby's nursery.” He continued narrating everything that happened.
He paused and stared at Veronica, whose eyes looked in anticipation, waiting to hear the story that turned her life upside down.
