Chapter 129
Chapter 129
Hearing Veronica scream out of her unconscious state, they all rushed to her to check if she was fine.
“Are you okay? Can you see us? Can you talk? Are you in pain?”
Numerous questions flew around in the air, leaving her with no space to answer any one in particular.
Veronica, still in a daze, was fazed by the numerous unknown faces staring down at her on the bed.
“Call the doctor! Tell him to come here right away!” Alpha Charles ordered the guards, who immediately raced out of the room at top speed.
“Where am I?” Veronica thought to herself. “Who are these people, and why are they staring at me?”
“Have I just been kidnapped? Am I dead? Am I in the afterlife?” Her heartbeat fastened, as she stared at them, having no idea of what they wanted to do to her, if they were going to hurt her or do something worse than that to her.
“But on second thought, they don't look hostile. They look scared. Like they are afraid and worried.” She tried to judge by their facial expression.
“Seems these are the leaders here. They have the aura of leaders.” She thought again, as her eyes darted from Alpha Charles to Luna Isabella.
Veronica’s eyes scanned the room and she couldn't help but notice how beautifully designed the room was. The whole place screamed royalty, and it didn't take long before she concluded that it had to be a grand palace.
But one thing made it more spectacular, and it was the fact that the room she was in was painted silver and it had a white pattern, making it a more beautiful sight to behold.
She also couldn't help but notice a beautifully designed work of art, which looked like an initial, which read, “P.V.C.S” at the top corner of the room.
“That’s one beautiful painting. What could it mean?” She thought to herself, but was quick to wave it off. “It's none of my business. It has nothing to do with me anyway.”
But that wasn't the only unusual sight in the room. The two main people, who seemed like the leaders, had silver-colored hair, and it felt completely strange, but at the same time, it felt strangely familiar. It felt like she had a connection with them in the past, only that she knew she had never seen them before that day.
All her life, she had only seen herself with silver hair, which had sometimes bothered her because it was one of the reasons why she had always been treated like an outcast wherever she went, because they felt she was completely different, coupled with the fact that she was an omega.
“Mum? Dad?” The little voice of a little figure was heard, walking into the room, capturing everyone's attention.
“Oh, there's a little one too.” Veronica thought, and smiled slightly, while their attention was on the little boy, who walked in.
“Vincent, you're awake. What are you doing here?” Luna Isabella asked as she gently pulled the young boy to the side.
“I've been looking everywhere for you both but I couldn't find you.” Vincent answered, rubbing his eyes.
“Oh, I'm so sorry, love. Daddy and I had something important to attend to.” She explained to him.
Just then, his nanny rushed in, and Luna Isabella just stared at the speechless young lady.
“I'm sorry, ma'am. I only stepped out to get him some water, I didn't know he had left the room.” She apologized, bowing her head.
“It's fine. There's no point causing a scene here. Just take him to his room and watch him properly.” She instructed, trying as much as she could not to raise her voice.
“Let’s go, prince.” The nanny urged, gently pulling his arm, but he refused to leave.
Luna Isabella crouched to the ground in front of her son. “Son, can you wait for us in your room, we'll join you shortly.
“Is that a promise?” Vincent asked, his eyes innocent.
“Yes, it is.” Alpha Charles cut in, with a smile.
“Okay, see you later.” Vincent waved at his parents, and left the room, happily with his nanny.
Right as they were leaving the room, the doctor arrived, rushing in with a nurse.
“Thank goodness. Doctor, you're here. Can you please examine her. She just screamed, and she has not said anything since then.” Alpha Charles explained to the doctor, who rushed to Veronica and began to examine her.
“Leave us.” Alpha Charles ordered all the other guards and they immediately left the room.
“Can you hear me?” The doctor asked Veronica, who just stared at him, frightened at first.
And as he tried to touch her, she shrieked in fear.
The doctor could immediately see the fright in her eyes and knew he had to help her calm down, and trust them first.
“We're not going to hurt you. I promise. We just want to ensure that you're safe and sound, and there are no complications.” He explained carefully.
“If you can hear me, just nod your head. No pressure.” He said again, and this time she nodded slowly.
“Phew…” They all sighed in relief, seeing that she could hear them.
“Where am I? Am I dead?” Veronica suddenly spoke up, shocking them all.
“No, you're not. You're very much alive.” The doctor replied to her.
“Oh, I thought I was dead and gone.” She said, rolling her eyes.
“No you're not.” He reaffirmed.
“Alpha, Luna, I must say this is great news. This is massive progress.” The doctor blurted out gladly, as he turned to face Alpha Charles, and Luna Isabella. “She is perfectly fine. No incoherent speech. No visible injuries too.” He added, as he checked his notepad before handing it over to the nurse.
Hearing the doctor, Alpha Charles and his Luna sighed in more relief.
Seeing as there were no complications, he helped Veronica to sit up, and handed her a glass of warm water.
“Do you remember anything from the past?” The doctor asked her.
“The past? What past?” She asked weakly, looking completely confused.
“I'm sorry. I mean, do you remember anything from the last two to three weeks? Do you remember where you were then?” He asked, and her expression became neutral.
Veronica wasn't sure about why he was asking her such a question, but she wasn't ready to answer because she didn't want to relive those hurtful moments.
“Why? Don't you want to say anything about it?” The doctor asked her, his face etched with concern.
“Yes, I don't want to talk about it.” She said, looking away, her hands jittery as she spoke.
“That's fine. There's no problem. If you don't want to talk about it. That's fine.” He assured her, trying to make her calm down.
She looked around and suddenly began to ask, “Where exactly is this place? Where am I? How did I get here?”
Alpha Charles and his wife took steps forward, closing in on Veronica, who just stared at them, not knowing how to react because she was feeling a kind of way she could explain, neither could she understand.
Deep down, she wanted to move away, but she couldn't because a certain bond was holding her still.
“You're in the Silver Mist Pack.” Alpha Charles announced, and Veronica looked around her.
“You were found at our borders. Apparently the river washed your body to our shores, and we've been taking care of you since then.” He explained to her.
“I'm sorry, sir. But how long has this been?” Veronica asked him.
“If my memory serves me right, it's been almost two weeks now.” Alpha Charles answered.
“So I've been unconscious for almost two weeks?” She asked, surprised.
“Yes, that is correct.” Luna Isabella confirmed.
“But why?” Veronica asked sadly. “Why didn't you just leave me there and let me die. I wanted to die.” She burst into tears.
They all couldn't believe their ears.
Luna Isabella immediately took her seat beside Veronica on the bed. “Why would you say something like that? Why would you want to kill yourself?”
“No one wants me. They treat me like a plague. Like I'm a mistake to exist. And to cap it all, that voice kept taunting me. I couldn't take it anymore.” Veronica cried bitterly.
“Everywhere I go, tragedy steps in. Disaster visits them the moment I step there. In fact, I lost my friend, I lost my freedom, and I’ve been banished twice from two different packs. What else is remaining for me in this world? I just wanted to die. At least, I'll get away from the rejection and problems of this world.” She wept bitterly, while Luna Isabella sobbed silently with her.
Alpha Charles sighed. “I believe the moon goddess brought you here for a reason. If not, why, of all places, did the river bring you here?” Alpha Charles spoke and Veronica took a moment to take in what he had just said.
She wiped her tears. “Maybe it's a coincidence.” She said, sniffling.
“No, I don't believe it's a coincidence. I believe it's for a particular reason and I know we will find out in due time.” He said confidently.
“Sincerely, when you were brought by the guards who found you, I don't know why, but we just felt a strong connection towards you, because you reminded us of someone we lost a very long time ago. This made us determined to help you by all means possible.” Luna Isabella explained.
“You know, if she was here with us, she probably would be around your age right now.” Luna Isabella said, her eyes showing sadness which she tried to hide.
“This was also supposed to be her room.” She said as she sadly looked around.
“May I ask, how old are you?” She asked Veronica.
“I'm nineteen years old.” Veronica answered.
“Hmmmmm…” The Alpha sighed. “And what is your name?” He asked, “I don't think we've asked you yet.”
“Veronica. My name is Veronica.” She said, and they all exchanged shocked glances.
“Wait, what?!” They exclaimed, leaving Veronica confused.
“Why? Is there anything wrong? Have I done something wrong now?” She asked, her eyes welling up with tears as she feared that they might have heard something that they didn't want to hear.
“No, you didn't do anything wrong.” Luna Isabella said, clearing her throat as she adjusted her sitting position.
“Can I ask you another question?” She asked, staring at Veronica’s hair.
“What… What color is your hair?” She asked, with a shaky voice.
“Black.” Veronica answered, wondering why she asked when it was obviously black.
“No, I mean, is this the original color?” She asked further, and Veronica remained silent, not sure if it was going to be a good thing to tell her the truth.
“I promise, nothing is going to happen to you. I just want to confirm something. I give you my words as the Luna of this pack.”
After a little hesitation, Veronica finally answered, “NO. The original color is silver. I dyed it black myself.” She revealed, slowly.
“Oh my goodness.” Luna Isabella's eyes were filled with tears, but Veronica still didn't understand what was going on.
“May I?” Luna Isabella asked for permission to touch her shoulder, and Veronica nodded, giving her permission.
And as she raised Veronica’s clothes, there was a mark on a part of her shoulder, around her upper arm. It was always covered with clothes, so people hardly saw it.
Luna Isabella and Alpha Charles gasped in shock
“When did you get this?” Luna Isabella asked, shakily as she pointed at the mark, while trying to fight her tears.
Veronica shrugged. “I don't know. It has always been there.” She said, plainly.
“Oh my goodness. She is the one, Charles! She is the one!!!” Luna Isabella cried out loud, visibly shaking as she screamed, and hugged Veronica tightly.
Alpha Charles and Luna Isabella's joy knew no bounds, while Veronica just stared at them, completely confused.
