Chapter 128
Chapter 128
SILVER MIST PACK
Alpha Charles and his Luna Isabella, the Alpha and Luna of the Silver Mist Pack, walked hastily with their numerous guards as they headed to the large room where the pack doctor and nurse were attending to Veronica.
“Is she awake yet? Is she okay now, doctor? Is she going to be fine?” They both said from the door, almost in unison.
Seeing them, the doctor and the nurse immediately bowed in respect to the Alpha and Luna of the pack.
“It's been days, rolling into weeks, and she has been exactly like this, on this same spot. No changes at all.” Luna Isabella voiced her worries as she walked into the room.
“She will be fine. She just needs more time.” The doctor replied, and the Alpha's jaw dropped.
“What?!” Alpha Charles exclaimed, and his eyes widened. “More time? How much more time is needed? It's been almost two weeks now, doctor, and she hasn't even done so little as sneezed. If anything is wrong, just tell us. We can handle it.” He said, his eyes showing visible signs of fear, uncertainty, and worry.
“I'm sorry, Alpha. But there is really nothing we can do at this point than to wait. It's not within our capacity to make her wake up. We just have to keep our hopes alive that she will wake up soon.” The pack doctor tried to explain to the worried Alpha and Luna.
“We've kept our hopes alive for close to two weeks now. We don't know what else to do.” Alpha Charles said tiredly.
“I think the good thing here is that she is still breathing. Even if she is still in an unconscious state, at least we know she is still alive and she could come out of that state at any point in time.” The doctor said, trying to encourage the couple.
Alpha Charles then sighed deeply. “Yes, and that's the only solace we have right now.” He said, taking a seat, and the doctor slowly nodded in agreement.
“But until when?” Luna Isabella asked, her voice breaking as she was close to tears. “Until when do we really have to wait, doctor? A week? A month? Or two?” She kept asking, hoping to get a definite answer.
The doctor's shoulders dropped, drooping low. “I wish I had an answer, Luna. I really wish there was something I could do to help her, but you know this is beyond her control.“ He replied to her, his voice filled with sincerity.
“But are you sure she'll make it?” She asked, her voice trembling with fear.
She reached out, and held Veronica’s hand gently in hers, and stared at her as her eyes welled up with tears.
“Come on, Isabella. Don't talk like that.” Her husband cautioned gently.
“I'm sorry, I just can't help being scared. I keep having lots of wild thoughts.” She said, wiping a single tear which had rolled down her cheek.
“I understand your fear, Luna. But you know she had been submerged in the river for a very long time before she was found. And we don't know where exactly she fell or where the river was bringing her from, before we found her on our riverbank.” He tried to explain carefully.
“Also, we don't know if she was pushed or she intentionally fell into the river.” He said, and this took them by surprise.
“What?!” The couple exclaimed, as they exchanged shocking glances.
“Why would she jump into the river on her own? Why would anyone even want to do that? It doesn't make any sense.” Alpha Charles stated.
“Well, no one knows what she must have been going through from where she was coming from. Anything is possible these days, especially if the person is maltreated and gets tired of living, they can just decide to end it all.” He explained, while they listened attentively.
“But I must say, it's really a miracle that she is still alive, because when she was examined after she was brought in, we realized that though she had truly been in the water for a long time, there was something surprising, and strange.” He explained, leaving them confused.
“And what did you find out?” Alpha Charles asked him.
“We found out that there were no signs of struggling. She didn't struggle as she fell in.” The doctor continued to explain.
“So does that mean that she fell in intentionally?” Luna Isabella narrowed her eyes as she asked him, still finding it hard to understand.
“Yes, it is most likely, Luna. In a case where she was kidnapped and about to be thrown into an uncomfortable place, thorough examination would have shown us signs of her struggling with her captors, but there was nothing like that. That was why I said, it's possible that she probably jumped into the river on her own.” He explained further.
Immediately she was found by the border guards, she had been taken to the hospital, where she was for a while week up until she was out of the critical state. The Alpha then instructed that she be brought into royal quarters, where she would be watched round the clock.
“Honestly, we have the moon goddess to thank for keeping her in one piece till she was found. She is really lucky too, because I've seen cases like this and trust me, this could have been a different sorry story entirely. Everything could have gone downhill.” The doctor added, and they sighed, nodding with gratitude.
“So we just have to keep waiting for her body to find its balance on its own, and wake up. We have to be positive too.” He advised, and they nodded slowly again.
“I’ll be on my way now. I'll be back to check on her, but if anything changes, don't hesitate to alert me, please.” He said, and the nurse gathered his tools as they prepared to leave.
“Will sure do. Thank you so much, doctor.” Alpha Charles thanked him, stretching his arm, which the doctor took and shook with a bow.
Alpha Charles then gave an approving nod, and the Doctor left the palace. After the Doctor had left, Alpha Charles and his Luna took time to discuss a lot of things while glancing at Veronica at intervals.
About half an hour later, Veronica, who was finally coming out unconscious, began to hear muffled unclear voices, which scared the shit out of her.
Unable to fight anymore, Veronica suddenly screamed from her unconsciousness, her loud scream piercing the air through the room, as her eyes snapped open, leaving the room in complete disarray.
