Chapter 186 He Went to the Reunion
Charlotte was not expecting this. She didn't show her shock when she asked, "Mr. Lloyd, after all, Mrs. Lloyd is your elder. Isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to say that?"
Before she came over, she had asked someone to investigate Cyril. He was known as a gentleman, gentle and considerate, but the gossip said he had no respect for his elders and was arrogant and cocky.
Charlotte didn't expect it to be true.
Cyril sneered and playfully asked, "Ms. Seinfield, would you say such words to Mr. Langley? As far as I know, Mr. Langley doesn't really take his grandpa's opinion to heart. Otherwise, why would he delay marrying Stella?"
It seemed that the Lloyd family knew about Jason's several rejections of marrying Stella, so no wonder Stella was so exasperated.
With that idea in mind, Charlotte immediately snapped back to her senses and found it quite hilarious that at a time like this, she still had the leisure to think about pointless stuff.
Cyril noticed her self-deprecating smile, mistaking it for mocking Stella. He immediately frowned. Displeased, he questioned, "Are you gloating, Ms. Seinfield?"
Charlotte got serious and said, "You've misunderstood, Mr. Lloyd. I just didn't expect the Lloyd family to attach so much importance to Mr. Langley and Ms. Lloyd's marriage." Seeing that the topic was getting far away, she took the initiative to get back to business. "What will it take for you to sign the contract?"
She just wanted to finish her work and leave as soon as possible.
Moreover, Jason leaving without mentioning his whereabouts made her uneasy.
"It's simple. I just need your signature." Cyril nodded to signal.
His assistant, who came up and showed a new agreement to Charlotte.
Charlotte finished skimming through it in a single glance with mockery in her eyes. After going through so much trouble, Cyril was only afraid that she would renege and return to the Lloyd family.
She didn't even pick up the pen and directly refused, "I won't go back, and I can't sign this. I didn't forge the paternity test. What is the purpose of you asking me to sign a statement admitting to forgery, Mr. Lloyd?"
Cyril sized her up in silence before asking harshly and rhetorically, "Since you don't care about being a Lloyd, why can't you sign it?"
"The basis for accepting your commission and making it effective is the paternity test. Even if you don't want to work with us in good faith, you don't need to humiliate me like this. Aren't you afraid that Mr. Langley will hold you accountable?" Charlotte felt displeased at being tricked and questioned Cyril indifferently.
Unexpectedly, Cyril just laughed out loud. "Ms. Seinfield, you seem to really care about this cooperation, but Mr. Langley doesn't seem to be so attentive. He let you come alone for such an important contract signing today. Aren't you curious about where he went?"
It sounded like Cyril was very familiar with Jason's routine.
Charlotte felt alert. As a sense of crisis came to her, she reacted. "Mr. Langley went to the reunion?"
A few days ago, they had mentioned this, and at that time, Jason clearly refused.
Cyril's eyes revealed a subtle sense of appreciation, his smile showing triumph and delight. "That's right. He's probably alone with Stella right now, so you have a whole night to think about it. Don't fantasize about him coming to save you."
Footsteps sounded behind her.
Charlotte turned around when three burly men were walking toward the door to lock it.
Bang! The moment the door was about to close, it was kicked open hard.
With a frown, Jason strode toward Charlotte while looking around. After he confirmed her safety, he looked down at Cyril and asked gloomily, "What are you doing, Mr. Lloyd?"
Cyril was quite shocked by Jason's sudden visit, but he hid his shock right away and signaled with his eyes for the bodyguards to leave them for now.
Only after the conference room was cleared did he slowly reply, "As you can see, we're signing the contract, Mr. Langley."
Jason glanced down at the agreement and directly tore it up without any hesitation. "Let's sign it then."
He pushed the original contract in front of Cyril, leaving the latter no room for negotiation.
Without any fear, Cyril raised his eyebrows, hands clasped and placed on his abdomen. He calmly rebuffed, "Ms. Seinfield hasn't agreed to my conditions, so I can't sign it for the time being."
"Then it seems like there's still no need to cooperate." Jason did not say anything extra with a resolute attitude.
Charlotte nervously interjected, "Mr. Lloyd, I have something here that might be of interest to you."
She took out her other cell phone that had been recording before she found the file and played it to him. The recording clearly indicated that he wanted to fake the paternity test.
Cyril's complexion changed slightly.
Charlotte had already put away her cell phone when she said indifferently, "Mr. Lloyd, you deliberately chose this place with surveillance, but the cameras were all turned off when I came in, so I made this preparation. It seems that I was right about it.
You're only temporarily designated as the heir now. If the rest of the Lloyd family hears this recording and knows what you intend to do, what will they think?"
In order to keep his prestige and position, Cyril, of course, couldn't possibly announce this kind of sordid matter to the public.
Jason showed his appreciation on his face and stared fixedly at Charlotte to the point where she needed to avert his eyes to suppress her embarrassment.
She calmed down and flipped over the original contract as she thoughtfully placed the signing pen to the side with a polite smile. "Mr. Lloyd, I think following the original plan will be beneficial to both of us. Don't you think so?"
Cyril quietly looked at her. His original confidence and arrogance were gone. His questioning gaze showed his faint sense of defiance and discomfort of embarrassment.
Two long minutes passed, and he finally signed his name. He glanced at Charlotte while saying meaningfully, "It seems that I've underestimated you, Ms. Seinfield."
"Not exactly. I'm just doing my part." Charlotte still maintained her modesty, nodding before proposing, "I'll walk you out."
"No, thanks. I'd better save some time for Mr. Langley." He said these words meaningfully and took the lead to leave.
Charlotte was puzzled by what he said but did not ask. After organizing and packing up the contract, she looked at Jason and asked, "Has the reunion ended, Mr. Langley?"
It was only at this time that she realized that his face was flushed to the point of abnormality. She frowned and asked, "Are you drunk?"
"No. I merely had a glass," Jason said but reached out to undo his tie and loosen the top button. He was burning with heat.
It looked like he had been accidentally drugged at the reunion.
Who would be so bold to drug him?
Charlotte didn't dare to delay. She immediately called the doctor to come over while telling the receptionist that they would temporarily stay in the lounge next to the conference room.
The doctor arrived soon. On his way over, he already had a general understanding of the situation, but when he examined Jason, he was still shocked. While injecting Jason with medication, the doctor explained, "Mr. Langley was given a large amount of medication to increase the activity of his sperm."
Charlotte froze, wondering, 'A special drug? Doesn't increasing sperm activity mean trying to increase the chances of pregnancy?'
She frowned tightly and immediately instructed her assistant to investigate the specifics of the reunion and find out the source of the drug. Meanwhile, she knew who was likely to do it.
Even if it wasn't Stella who drugged Jason, it was probably related to her.
