Chapter 187 His First Love
The drug was potent, so the doctor instructed that it was best for Charlotte to stay with Jason and observe him at all times.
Charlotte stayed close to Jason. Only when she found that Jason's fever had faded did she feel slightly relieved, unconsciously falling asleep on the edge of the bed.
At three o'clock in the morning, Jason woke up due to intense thirst. He pressed his throat and subconsciously called out to Charlotte but did not get a response. He propped himself up when the quilt slipped off.
He looked at the unfamiliar surroundings, gradually recalling what had happened before he fell asleep. As soon as he lowered his head, he saw Charlotte. Tenderness unconsciously appeared in his eyes.
At seven in the morning, Charlotte opened her eyes amidst the clamor and saw a broad and sturdy chest right away.
As if she had been electrocuted, she quickly stepped back. When she saw Jason's face, she felt relieved a little and then quite puzzled, wondering, 'When did I get to the bed? Did Jason wake up in the middle of the night?'
"You're awake?" Jason's hoarse inquiry came from above her head.
Charlotte returned to her senses and subconsciously confirmed his physical condition. "Are you feeling better?"
Jason propped up the upper half of his body. He looked refreshed as he answered, "Much better."
She was relieved and lifted the quilt to get out of bed. When she grabbed a corner of the quilt, she was brought back by Jason, her back leaning against his hot chest.
"It's still early." Jason's voice grew husky, turning Charlotte on a bit.
Just while she was hesitating, Jason's hand had already slipped into her shirt, and the hot sensation came from her abdomen.
Charlotte suddenly came to her senses and grabbed his hand, awkwardly reminding him, "I just signed the contract yesterday. There are still a lot of things that need to be implemented. Let's go to the company now."
Jason thought that she was taking into account her injuries. Without stopping what he was doing, he promised in a low voice, "I will be gentle."
With that, he was about to lift her blouse.
"Mr. Langley!" Charlotte was so shocked that she raised her voice, successfully stopping Jason. As he stared at her with a displeased look, she explained in a rare nervous manner, "This cooperation is a big deal, so I would like to spend more time to confirm it."
She was also considered a shareholder now, so this reason should be sufficient.
As expected, Jason showed a thoughtful face, sort of agreeing with her excuse. However, he didn't let her off easily, saying in a low voice, "I can let you off, but you need to at least compensate me."
It was an hour later that Charlotte and Jason left the room. Charlotte tugged at her dress uncomfortably with a burning sensation up the roots of her thighs. The corners of her mouth were quite sore.
She stared fiercely at the back of Jason, who started it all, secretly cursing him for being a monster.
However, Jason was in a rather good mood and looked relaxed.
When he stopped at the door of the CEO's office, he looked gloomy all over.
Stella's eyes were red and swollen. When she saw him, she immediately came over. "Jason, why did you leave so early?"
She reached out to pull Jason's arm, revealing the bruises on her wrist.
Jason obviously noticed it. With a frown, he asked, "What happened to your wrist?"
Stella didn't answer but looked at Charlotte instead with a disgusted look in her eyes.
Charlotte wisely walked past them and opened the door to walk in while saying, "Take your time to chat."
As she entered, Jason's eyes gradually darkened, staring at Stella. "Say it."
He sounded so impatient as if inquiring was already the limit of his concern for her.
Noticing his impatience and disgust, Stella bit her lower lip when the feelings of unwillingness and jealousy hit her. She wondered, 'Why is that impostor able to outshine me?'
Charlotte sat down and looked at the door as if uncontrollably. Stella was sobbing, so aggrieved. Her look was just pitiful.
Jason and Stella only chatted for a short time before Charlotte's assistant came up.
Charlotte suddenly thought that she entrusted her assistant to investigate. Worrying about causing unnecessary trouble, she got up and gestured, "Just come in directly."
Unexpectedly, Jason and the assistant came in together when Stella hesitantly followed behind.
The assistant reported, "I've found out what you asked me to investigate yesterday, Ms. Seinfield."
He took out a few photos and gave Jason and Charlotte each a copy.
Charlotte's eyes widened. The person in the photos was too familiar to her. Why did Joseph come to the country?
The assistant continued seriously, "He's the source of the drug. The one who drugged you has already been sent to the police, Mr. Langley."
Jason's eyes narrowed and he directly threw the photos at Stella. "What's going on with Joseph?"
It looked like Jason was also quite clear about Joseph and Stella's relationship.
Faced with the photos, Stella showed panic in her eyes but played dumb. "What's going on? Did he come to the country?"
"Yesterday, someone gave me something of unknown origin. He's the source. The last one with me was you. Are you not clear about anything?" Jason was extraordinarily harsh without the slightest bit of mercy.
Even Charlotte was shocked by Jason's cruel look. She couldn't help but look at him one more time.
Wasn't it said that Stella was his first love?
What was going on didn't match Charlotte's prediction.
Stella's face changed when Jason questioned her. She tried to explain, but she only gave a feeble denial. "Jason, how could I do this? You know that Joseph has been wooing me. It's not strange that he'd do something despicable behind my back."
"I wouldn't drug you no matter what."
She pledged with such vehemence and sincerity that she was close to swearing to God.
Charlotte listened with interest, pricking her ears.
Unexpectedly, Stella suddenly aimed at her. "Ms. Seinfield sent her guy to investigate. Shouldn't you investigate her as well? Jason, you know that she's been obstructing our relationship. It's more likely that she's deliberately lying to you."
Charlotte had never been smeared so awkwardly like that.
She almost laughed out loud, leaning back against the back of her chair as she leisurely replied, "Do you have any evidence, Ms. Lloyd? If not, I'm going to sue you for slander."
"How dare you!" Fortunately, Stella's reasoning was still intact. She pursed her lips without insisting on her statement.
Jason stopped the drama at the right time, interrupting the argument between the two with a frown. He nodded and said to the assistant, "Got it. Get back to your work now."
Only after the assistant left did Stella feel at ease and grabbed Jason's arm to clarify, "Jason, if I did it, how could I have been harassed yesterday? Shouldn't I follow you closely?"
Charlotte realized that Stella failed her plan and shot herself in the foot.
Jason's impatience was undisguised as he drew out his hand and replied harshly, "I'll have Charlotte continue the investigation. Tell Joseph that he shouldn't do anything meaningless."
Everyone knew why Jason was drugged.
Stella's face darkened. Not only did she not get the comfort she imagined when she rushed over, but she was instead mocked by Charlotte and Jason. She felt terribly upset.
