Chapter 183 Taking Her Side
Charlotte didn't stop setting the documents in the slightest, drawing back their attention unhurriedly, "There's still five minutes left for the meeting. What are you chatting about?"
The other secretaries looked at each other in dismay. They exchanged a look and shut up.
Jason and the shareholders took their seats one by one. He naturally glanced at Charlotte, nodding to signal her to start chairing the meeting.
Charlotte had only just picked up the speaker when a shareholder said in a sarcastic manner, "I'm afraid that we should stop troubling Charlotte to do such trivial jobs, and since this is a cooperation with a branch of the Lloyd family, it's only appropriate for her to avoid it."
Charlotte paused a little before showing a faint smile. She replied calmly, "Mr. Worley, you're overly concerned. I'm just Mr. Langley's secretary."
But Mr. Worley didn't seem to hear her words and turned his head to ask Jason, "This is the first time we're working with the heir of the Lloyd family. It's not appropriate for Charlotte to be here."
The othersturned to Jason at the same time, waiting for his response.
Charlotte's eyes darted. If she remembered correctly, the Lloyd family's heir was the eldest grandson of the Lloyd family's head. He was very capable and making a name for himself abroad.
Charlotte had thought that they were working with Stella, not realizing that there was someone behind it.
Jason glanced lightly over and indifferently said, "If you have time to care about gossip, why don't you hand in your financial report first? I've heard there's a big mistake."
Mr. Worley was rendered speechless.
Since Jason had made an example out of him, the others who were planning to target Charlotte dropped the idea.
The meeting went on.
Charlotte only did the opening and guided the meeting, not familiar with the specifics. Only after hearing their discussion did she understand that the Lloyd family wanted to develop their jewelry business in Porenia and compete against Stardum, so they wanted to start cooperating with Langley Group.
The proposal seemed absurd, but the Lloyd family proposed that they could split the shares and invest in S&C. The condition was that the design right needed to be fully ceded.
For the jewelry industry, the design right was the priority. Ceding it was equivalent to ceding other power.
The shareholders found it nice and chatted with each other. "Currently what S&C lacks the most is strong designers. If we cooperate with the Lloyd family, we can have internationally renowned designers without any effort. It's mutually beneficial."
"I heard that the designer who represented S&C in the competition this time was an unknown designer. They got lucky this time, but it might not happen again. It's not a sure thing."
Jason heard it all. Without commenting, he quietly waited for them all to finish before slowly and methodically saying, "This designer has already entered the finals with first place. Their popularity in the design industry is unprecedented. Are you all not well informed?"
The shareholders looked at each other, dumbfounded. Someone hesitantly voiced his doubts. "I heard that Charlotte contacted this designer. If she leaves Langley Group, we may not get to keep this designer."
Jason's eyes suddenly darkened. He decided to make things clear as he announced a unilateral notice, "I can consider codifying the content of the contract, not at the moment."
He did not care about the reaction of the shareholders and said in a harsh voice, "That's all for the meeting."
The shareholders left without knowing why. They were quite displeased with Jason, but due to his authority, they didn't dare to express their displeasure and could only vent their anger on Charlotte.
"Charlotte, don't be so greedy. No matter how Mr. Langley loves you, you won't get to hold S&C. Just take some money appropriately."
Their tone was disgusting, and their lewd eyes that surveyed her made Charlotte nauseous.
Charlotte organized the documents and stared at Mr. Worley without changing her look. There was mockery mixed in her flat tone. "Mr. Worley, aren't you quite regretful?"
Mr. Worley looked confused.
"After all, in your opinion, I get to sway Mr. Langley's decision without much effort. Are you regretting that you are not a woman? Otherwise, you would have taken control of Langley long ago." Charlotte kept a polite smile.
Mr. Worley looked displeased.
Jason smiled slightly and casually said, "Mr. Worley, don't need to be sorry. If you were a woman, you wouldn't even get to your current position."
Mr. Worley's face was livid as he strode away angrily.
Charlotte didn't expect Jason to take her side. She froze, hesitantly confirming, "Won't Mr. Worley have a problem with me?"
"He won't dare." Jason snorted indifferently.
Charlotte organized the content of the meeting and informed the other party of the results of the discussion by email as it was.
Not long after that, Stella called and questioned furiously on the other end of the line. "Charlotte, are you behind it?"
Charlotte frowned for a second. "Ms. Lloyd, you're asking the wrong person."
Stella was unrelenting. "Only you could've done it. Are you just going against me?"
Compared to Stella's provocation, Charlotte was quite calm. "Ms. Lloyd, you are not in the mood to talk about cooperation. Let's talk when you calm down."
Stella snorted. "Are you provoking me? Charlotte, don't think that Jason truly cares for you."
After saying this, she hung up with a beeping tone.
Charlotte looked at the phone interface, feeling comical and ridiculous. Without paying too much attention to it, she took advantage of the rare free time to focus on the design manuscript paper.
The competition gave the designers a short time to create works for the finals. Charlotte had only one week. Even if she had been conceptualizing before, the time seemed to be completely insufficient.
Fortunately, Jason took in her request and really didn't touch her recently, or else the time would have been even tighter.
As Charlotte thought of this, her thoughts briefly drifted.
Jason was somewhat nicer to her than usual.
"Charlotte, being absent-minded during work will result in a deduction of salary," Jason teased in a low voice, pulling Charlotte back to her senses.
She skillfully hid the draft and looked toward Jason who was taking his seat, asking for instructions, "What can I do for you, Mr. Langley?"
"We'll go to a dinner party in the evening. The time and place have already been set."
"Okay."
When they set off in the evening, Jason looked at Charlotte's thick suit jacket and was quite shocked. "Why are you dressed like this?"
Charlotte lifted her hair behind her ear and asked in a calm manner, "Is it not okay?"
"It's not that." Jason's eyes were still a little strange, but he did not pursue the matter.
Charlotte secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
In the past, when she ate out with him, she usually wore dresses that would outline her hot figure, but now those dresses could not cover her belly.
After they arrived at the restaurant, Jason suddenly stopped in his tracks when they were about to enter the private room. He turned his head to Charlotte and said, "Relax. Don't have any worries."
Charlotte didn't understand what he was talking about, but she did when the door opened.
Inside the room sat a tall young man wearing a pair of gold-framed glasses with familiar features.
His sharp gaze was fixed on Charlotte. He even ignored Jason who was walking in front of her.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Langley. I'm Cyril Lloyd." The man quickly looked back and stood up to greet Jason. "I'm also the eldest grandson of the Lloyd family."
