CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

A moderately sized, square shaped terrace, candles on each corner and grandma was lighting the last one as I reached the top, the first thing my eyes landed on were the pansy's, lining the wooden railing on all sides, were purple and yellow pansy's, their petals were closing from the lack of sun. I stepped up and out onto the terrace, taking note of the view of stars, still looking around and marvelling at all the pansy's, framing us in perfectly, it was then I noticed something on the wooden railing under one of the candles. I stepped up closer and found intricate pictures carved into the wood, from flowers and tree's to animals and even people, all perfectly drawn, it almost looked like its own little kingdom it was beautiful, "who done all of this grandma", I ask, still looking around before my eye's land on her and Lisa laying on the floor with arms casually resting behind their heads. Grandma let out a relaxed sigh and I suddenly feel John press up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist, it gives me a comfortable feeling, it felt as though I belonged there, "your Grandpa and I built this together long before we had your mum", Grandma finally answered, a hint of sorrow and longing in her voice. John and I joined Lisa and Grandma on the floor and got comfortable, Grandma was on the outer left side, Lisa was between Grandma and I and John was to my right, one of his arms went behind his head and the other moved underneath my head, his hand resting on my left shoulder, his arm was surprisingly comfortable and I smiled with contentment. Grandma let out another another sigh, "this is the first time I have been up here since he passed, your mum was quite young then", she confessed, "I am quite surprised the pansy's survived, I thought they would be long dead", this confused me, "if you have not been up here, who took care of the flowers all this time", I asked perplexed, "I guess your Grandpa's spirit lives on in them", Grandma deduced, Lisa and I hum in agreement, I was not entirely a believer in spirits at all but Grandpa has been gone decades, all Lisa and I have are stories told to us mostly by grandma, mum did not have all that many memories, I can not find another explanation for the seemingly immortal flowers. Lisa lightly cleared her throat, "what made you come here again", she asked, grandma let out a chortle, "you all, of course", she confessed, I frowned in confusion, "why us Grandma", I asked, I hear her sigh, "because I just lost my daughter and I never once showed her this special place", Grandma began, "I need to show her descendants before it is my turn to leave". We lay there for a long time, letting the beautiful moon shower us with her glow. The first one of us to begin snoring was Grandma, who fell asleep ten minutes after her confession, I sat up when I first realised she was asleep and looked at the small chest of drawers near the corned by the entance, I walked over to it and opened it to find some blankets, I knew Grandma to well, she has blanket in every area of the house, I grabbed out two and placed the first one on Grandma and Lisa and took the other back to my position on the floor, covering John and I with it. My eyes were also beginning to get sleepy and I was finding it difficult to keep them open, I decided to change to a more comfortable position, I turned over and rested my head on John's chest, he lightly kissed the top of my head and drew circles on my back, I found I could no longer fight the sleep and quickly nodded off, feeling at home in Johns arms.

The brightness of morning light had me squeazing my eyes closed as I awoke, my head and body was snuggled against something warm and soft and I suddenly remembered where I had fallen asleep. John's heart beat was steady, he was seemingly still asleep. I groaned as I stretched my legs out and Johns arms tightened around me, his heartbeat picked up momentarily and I thought he was going to wake up but his heart went back to beating slowly, I opened my eyes and slowly lifted my head to looked at his face, he had a soft and peaceful expression on his face, his mouth was tilted up slightly and eyes were still closed. I studied John handsome face for a few moments, his nose was not to pointed and not to flat with a well marked bridge, his cheek bones were ever so slightly raise, I moved my attention to his closed eyes where I noticed a faint scar just under his right eye, it stretched from the middle of his eye to the right corner, I couldn't stop myself, I lifted my hand up to his face and gently ran my finger along the scar. As my fingers studied the scar, I began wondering where this scar appeared, "either at work or as a child", I thought, I was to distracted, I did not realise John's arm move from behind me, as he placed his hand on mine, he slowly opened up his eyes and gazed into mine, the blue in his eyes had a certain unexplainable shine to them, it made my heart skip a beat. John smiled brightly, "good morning beautiful", he whispered tenderly, I melted in that moment, if only I could wake up this way every morning for the rest of my life, "Good morning handsome", I smiled back. John moved his hand back to behind my back and pulled me as close as possible, lowering his head down to mine, preparing to steal my lips, I closed my eyes and lifted my head as far as it could go in hopes to meet him half way, we suddenly heard a yawn and groan coming from beside us, making us freeze, we stared into each eyes for a few moments, waiting for anymore noise, when we heard nothing, we finally connected, giving a few quiet pecks, "awe, you guys are cute".
