Chapter 34: CHAPTER THIRTY THREE
"Annah, are you out here", the voice called again, John and I breathed out releaved sigh, "it is just Lisa", I whisper, we crawled to the edge of the roof facing the house and caught a glimpse of Lisa's silhouette, I made a psst sound, "Lisa, up here", I whispered, I see the glare of Lisa's eye's find us and see what looks like her shaking her head, before walking up and around the stables. After a few moments we heard the russling sound of the hay before Lisa's head comes into view, John and I sit up, "what are you still doing up", I question, Lisa carefully walks over to sit beside me, "I could ask you the same", she says defiantly, making me shake me head in amusement, "we are watching the moon", John answers going back to his laying position, Lisa hums in suspicion but follows suit and also lays down. It was just me sitting up at this moment caught between Lisa and John, I was feeling slightly awkward and stiffening up when trying to decide whether or not to lay down also, I suddenly felt Johns arm curl around to my stomach and pull me back to his chest, my comfort zone, my hesitant feeling leaving instantly, "I wish this moment could go on forever", I thought to myself. We lay there for a while in silence for a while, enjoying the blissful night air, "we haven't been up here in a long time", Lisa reminisced, I hummed in agreement, she let out a giggle as if remembering something funny, "remember the time we came and I had just rained", Lisa asked, I tried to think for a moment, "which time", I asked, it rained here a lot, "the hay was so slippery", Lisa started giggling a little harder then before, the memory hit me suddenly and I too was in fits of laughter, "yes and everytime we tried to climb up, we would slip and slid down", I managed to say through giggles, "we made it a challenge to see who could get the highest before slipping", Lisa continued the story, "it was so frustrating and so hilarious at the same time", "oh and when we tried to hide why we were so dirty and covered in hay from mum and grandma", I chime in worse more and out laughter becomes out of control, John joined in on the laugher, though I am unsure if he was laughing at our story or if he found our laughter contagious. It suddenly occured to me that we were being to loud and I did my best to shush everyone through the uncontrolable laughter, after we had stopped laughing and finally calmed down, we hear a loud, "what do you think you are doing", came the stern voice of grandma, we jump and Lisa screamed out before sitting up to look over the side to see grandma, holding a candle with a less than pleased look on her face, "why are you out so late", grandma asked displeased, Lisa began stuttering a little, "we were looking at the moon", I say, "want to join us grandma", I ask inocently, Grandma shakes her head, "I would but not up there", she says, "I am too old to be climbing like that", she explains. John, Lisa and I, hop to our feet and climb down to meet grandma, "oh you are out here aswell, I see John", Grandma points out, "yes ma'am", he replies respectfully, grandma pets him on the shoulder, "no need to be to be so formal dear", she says modestly. Grandma claps her hand together, "right children", she starts, "follow me", she instructs, and walks back into the house, we look between each other for a brief moment perplexed and slightly worry, were we in trouble, Lisa is the first to start walking up behind grandma before John takes my hands, curling his finger around mine, he gives me a loving smile and leads me inside, I can't help but ogle up at him, my body, mind and heart are again affected by the warm tingling feeling. We follow grandma through the hall to the left and continue down passed our rooms, right to the end of the hallway. Once we reach the very end we find a door, I remember that Lisa and I would ask grandma about it everytime we were here, as kids she would always just say it was an empty room, curiosity got the better of us one night when Lisa had just had her thirteenth birthday, we waited untill everyone was asleep, Lisa grabbed a sewing needle and a hair pin and used them to pick the lock, it took her around ten minutes before she finally got it open, it was her first ever time picking a lock and she enjoyed it so much that she still does it for fun these days. The only thing we saw when we opened it back then was a spiral staircase made of wood, the roof was very high and the stairs appeared as if they went all the way to the top, the candle light did not go very far and we were a bit too frightened to venture any further we promised to never speak about it ever again. Grandma takes a necklace off from around her neck and at the end of it was a key, she uses the key to unlock the door, Lisa and I give each other confused looks, why were we going into a barren room. As the door opens it reveals the same barren room with the random stairs, "just wait here a moment", Grandma instructs and she steps into the room. We watch as she walks up the winding stairs with grace, led by a candle, when she finally makes it to the top, that is when Lisa and I notice the latch, we look at it each and mouth an "oh" to one another. Grandma opens the hatch and it partially reveals the moons glow, "alright children, you may come up now", she calls down and disapears through the hatch, I become a little excited, if this is grandma's special spot, it would have to be good. I allow Lisa to go up first, John leads me to the base and puts me infront of him, and we walk together up the stair, his chest touching my back making me feel secure and I can't help but smile. As we reach the top, I stop and I poke my head out to look around first, my eye become wide at the sight in front of me.
