Chapter 74 AM I REALLY CURSED?
Chapter 74 AM I REALLY CURSED?
Damien had been waiting for that question to come. He had thought Kallix wouldn't ask, but he didn't disappoint him.
If the beast could disappear just because it heard Kallix's voice, Kallix must have come here for a reason. He must have been the first person to sense the beast's energy.
He found Kallix even more interesting.
“It's nothing. Everything is fine here, you should go back and take a nap also.”
Kallix slowly nodded, his expression telling that he didn't believe Damien.
Of course if he believed that Damien would look down on him for that. With his great energy and power, he was a fool.
Damien sighed and closed the door after the boy walked away entirely.
He strides over to the door behind which he locked Evelyn in. He slowly opened the door and entered. Immediately, he could hear Evelyn's low sob.
What else could he expect from her? She was crying again.
“Your Majesty, everything is fine now.
On hearing Damien's voice, she cropped her neck out of the pillow. She jumped to her feet and rushed up to him.
As Evelyn rushed towards Damien, her eyes brimmed with even more tears which fell uncontrollably.
He could see the mix of emotions on her face - relief, gratitude, he was loss for words. This time, he didn't know how to calm her down. Some times it was better to relive dome osin through tears. She threw her arms around him, holding him tightly, and buried her face in his chest.
He felt a sense of longing in that hug. He for once thought that Evelyn must have been waiting for him for a long time. But he took longer for him to get everything done.
He felt a pang in his hear, and his heart began to raise.
Damien wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as she sobbed uncontrollably. He could relieve his stress with that also. He didn't know what was wrong with him, but his head was thust telling him to draw her closer and say some word of comfort, but he couldn't find the right word.
So he just let his action take the lead and say everything he couldn't.
Her body shook with each ragged breath she drag in, and his heart went out to her. He stroked her hair gently, trying to calm her down.
"Shh, it's okay," he whispered softly. "You're safe now. I'm here."
Evelyn's grip on him tightened, her fingers digging into his shirt as she clung to him. Why was Damien word making her feel even more emotional. She was just happy he was back to her safe and sound.
Evelyn’s tear soaked Damien’s cloth and it oblt made him wonder how much longer she would keep crying.
He still held her close, letting her cry, and offering what little comfort he could.
The fear, the uncertainty, the feeling of being overwhelmed - it was all there, etched on her face and in her body language. He held her close, letting her know that he was there for her, that he wouldn't let anything happen to her.
Slowly but surely, Evelyn's sobs began to subside, replaced by sniffles and ragged breathing. Damien continued to hold her, his arms wrapped tightly around her.
When she finally looked up at him, her eyes were red-rimmed and puffy, but there was a hint of gratitude in them. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Damien smiled softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're welcome," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I'm here for you, always.”
Just as the tears died down, Evelyn's words came. “Am I really cursed?”
……….
In a grand but unstated manor, Lady Eleanor on a plush cushions, her curly-haired little boy giggling uncontrollably as she played with him. The baby was few months old but he looked chubby and bubby enough.
The warm sunlight streaming through the windows made the scenes even more joyful to the eyes. The boy was obsessed with his mother, but his mother had a lot more different thing to take care of.
The air was filled with the sweet scent of fresh flowers, and the soft chirping of birds could be heard from the gardens outside.
As she tickled her son's tummy, causing laugh, a sudden chill ran down her spine. It was as if a cold breeze had swept into the room, despite the windows being closed.
Lady Eleanor's enthusiasm died down, and her gaze drifted away from her child, fixed on a point in the room.
As this happened, the baby had started to cry. He felt a slight change, a while ago he was playing with someone but all that had ended.
The baby's maid, who was sitting nearby, watching over the baby, noticed the change in Lady Eleanor's demeanor. What caused the sudden change? She was so engrossed in her thought that she failed to hear the baby's cry.
She called out to her, the baby's cry was already growing Loud enough to disrupt someone, "Lady Eleanor, milady, the baby is crying. Should I attend to him?"
Eleanor didn't respond immediately. The maid turned to check the wall as well but she couldn't see anything. But it seemed like Lady Eleanor was watching something interesting with the way she was so invested and concentrated.
Eleanor had goosebumps all over her body. It was as if her mind was telling her something. Something she couldn't place her hand on but she was quite sure it was relating to the palace.
The maid's voice finally pierced through her mind, "Lady Eleanor, milady?"
Lady Eleanor blinked, pulling herself back to reality. She looked at her child, who was indeed crying, and quickly attended to him. She scooped him up in her arms, cradling him close, and began to soothe him with gentle words and soft strokes on his hair. Then she fed him.
“Oh my little boy, mama's sorry.”
The boy calmed down after being fed by his mother.
As she comforted her child, Lady Eleanor's mind was elsewhere. She knew that something was amiss.
Once the baby had calmed down and was contented. Lady Eleanor rose from her seat, her movements deliberate and purposeful.
She reached out her maid and instructed her to prepare a suitable dress for her to wear.
Lady Eleanor stood up, smoothing out her skirts, and walked over to the baby's crib. She gazed lovingly at her sleeping prince, her heart filled with love and concern.
"Take care of my little one, Emma," she said to the caretaker. "I'll be back soon."
Emma nodded, smiling, "Yes, milady. I'll make sure he's safe and sound."
Emma couldn't voice out what was in her mind, the Duke had clearly told her not to leave the house unless she was going with the prince.
Lady Eleanor nodded and turned to leave. She walked out of the nursery, her long skirts rustling softly as she made her way to her bedchamber.
There, she donned a beautiful gown, suitable for a visit to the palace.
As she finished dressing, Lady Eleanor called for her carriage to be readied. She would go to the palace immediately.
Before leaving, she instructed the maids to inform her husband that she would be back soon. "Tell him I'm attending to some matters at the palace.”
The maids curtsied and nodded, "Yes, milady. We'll inform him."
With a final glance at her reflection in the mirror, Lady Eleanor descended the stairs and stepped into her carriage.
