Chapter 67 SERAPHINA'S MALICIOUS GAZE
Chapter 67 SERAPHINA'S MALICIOUS GAZE
Kallix's eyes remained, his small shoulders slumping slightly as he shook his head. Evelyn's expression softened, and she reached out to gently lift his chin.
"Hey, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice gentle. "You were so cheerful on the way here, and now you look like you've lost your last marble. Don't you like it here?"
Most children find it uneasy to adapt to a new environment. Especially when they don't have their guidians with them. His wouldn't be different, correct?
Kallix's eyes welled up with tears, and he sniffled slightly. Seraphina, standing behind him, shifted uncomfortably, realizing that her earlier outburst might have affected the boy more than she thought.
Evelyn's eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to think of what the problem could be.
Lifting her head in realization, “Do you miss your granny?”
He must have a feeling that some of his ribs are missing.
Kallix unwillingly nodded to Evelyn's question. Yes, he misses his grandmother, even though he didn't have the best life there he didn't get scolded for little thing.
“Oh, my little darling,” Evelyn picked him up from the floor. “You have me here, I will fill your granny's space, okay? Should we eat now?”
Damien watched silently as Evelyn made an attempt to change the little boy's mood. He was quite surprised to see that she was good with kids. But he could feel that Kallix's mood was still no better.
What could be wrong?
Evelyn brought her to the dinning area where their food had been served.
Kallix reluctantly held the golden spoon in his hand, they don't use this type of spoon from where he came from. But he dared not utter a word about his amusement. He stared at Seraphina from the corner of his eyes.
Evelyn missed this part of the scene because she was occupied with eating her food. But it didn't go unnoticed by Damien. He got a hint of what made the little guy scared, just by looking at the scene.
Everyone could feel and sense Seraphina's displeasure towards the guy since they arrived at the village. What did she tell the boy?
As Kallix ate, the once faded light seemed to return back to his face. All his life, he's always thought that his grandmother was the best cook. But what in the name of food is this?
He ate from each boy, taking a small bite each. He ate roughly, unlike how the elite would. But surprisingly, she wasn't disgusted. Was this how she was when she was younger?
She raised her head while laughing, but then she saw the malice in Seraphina's eyes. She didn't need to question her to know what that look meant. She didn't react immediately.
“We should go to the garden to play once we finish eating.”
Seraphina didn't know what was wrong with her, bit she had no soft side for this child. It was like she was turning to Queen. Evelyn seemed to be becoming a weakling after interacting with this middle class people.
A weakling in such a way that she always try to share the same pain as theirs. Which seemer quite impossible.
Evelyn finished eating before Kallix, but she waited until she was done.
“Let's take a walk to the garden, to digest our food.” She said with a smile, stretching out her hand to hold his.
Kallix took it at once, without glancing at anyone. As they made their way out, Evelyn finally realized that Damien had been in the house since they arrived.
“Oh!” She exclaimed slightly. “You should start going, tell you men while I get the approval letter stamped.”
Damien expression remained the same, he looked down and turned his body around to start going.
But after taking few steps, he returned to the chamber with the excuse of needing water.
“Pleas could I get a cup of water?”
Seraphina stared widely for some minutes before making moves to go to the kitchen.
“I'll leave you two,” Evelyn, still holding Kallix said. She didn't want to keep Kallix waiting and she wanted to have a nap also.
Evelyn left the room with Kallix.
Seraphina came back with the water, but she couldn't see Damien standing. She searched the room with her eyes only to see him sitting. She grumpily walked over to him, intending to stretch the cup and mistakingly slip and spill the water on him.
However, she didn't know that Damien had a plan also. As soon as she tried to carry out her plan, a sword was wielded and brought over to her neck.
Seraphina gasped in terror releasing the grip on the cup. The cup fell down and broke into several pieces.
“What..what are you doing?” She stammered unable to come up with a complete sentence.
She fiddled with parts of her clothes.
Damien smirked arrogantly, his gaze burning down Seraphina's feeling.
Seraphina felt his manacing gaze and shuddered. What is this man doing? What is this strong energy sorrounding him? She's never felt this around him. His aura became too strong for Seraphina to handle.
She almost fell to the floor.
“Wgay grudge do you have against that little kid? He's done you no wrong, so stop trying to ruin yyje fun in his life…” he came closer to her, his lip touching her ears. “The more you hurt him, the less Peace you have, likewise everyone.”
After that, he withdrew his sword, and out it into its case. He turned around at once and walked off.
Seraphina dropped to the floor, looking dead, but she wasn't.
She touched her neck and droplets of blood started to fall from the wound. She could feel the immense pain Damien left on her.
Though the pressure he applied wasn't much, the sword was sharp enough to leave her wounded. Was that how wounded Kallix was?
But, what did Damien mean by his last sentence? The more Kallix is hurt, the less Peace she has, likewise others.
Her heart ran cold, once again. She felt like disturbance in her throat as if she needed water. She rushed to the kitchen to get water, but she couldn't even swallow the water. She felt like her neck was being strangled, msking it difficult for her to breath.
She cough relentlessly, but it didn't help. At this rate, her eyes had turned bloodshot. She fell to the ground due to lack of oxygen, but she was still breathing perfectly fine.
If anyone should see this, they would see it as her pretending. Because, she looked perfectly fine, and what could have suffocated her to make her start breathing and coughing like that?
As she slumped to the floor, after a minute of feeling being strangled she felt better. The unseen grip on her neck seemed to have released her.
She gasped for air.
Damien walked out of the chamber, walking with attitude. As he turned corner, he bumped into someone, making him to stumble over.
He managed to regain his composure, but the person he bumped into had no stamina. She was about to fall hard, but surprisingly, Damien caught her in his embrace before she could.
The lady had already closed her eyes, awaiting the fall, but the only thing she felt was the warm air.
