Chapter 59 She’s Pregnant?

Chapter 59 She’s Pregnant?

Sensing the tense atmosphere between them, Emily quickly stepped forward: "Matthew, what brings you here?"

Matthew naturally tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "Come on, let's go celebrate."

Emily got in the car without looking back.

Watching the Pagani roar away, Alex pressed his tongue against his cheek and slowly slid his hands into his pockets.

Ha, Emily, well done.

Ten minutes later.

Emily had Matthew stop the car next to a bank.

She went straight in and withdrew all the money from that bank card, transferring it all to one of her secret offshore accounts, then casually tossed the empty card into a trash bin.

She didn't trust Alex, and she wouldn't leave any trace that could lead him to her and the baby.

Matthew watched her efficient movements, his eyes full of indulgence and amusement: "Now you're completely free. When are you planning to leave?"

Breathing in the fresh air, Emily smiled with her eyes crinkling: "In two days."

Looking at her lively and gentle face, Matthew asked softly: "To celebrate, how about we throw a going-away party? Just a few close friends, what do you say?"

"Sure!" Emily agreed right away, feeling relaxed and at ease for the first time in a while.

It would be good to say goodbye to her parents and friends properly.

Afterward, Matthew drove her back to the old mansion, since she still had things to pack.

As soon as Emily walked through the door, Margaret came up to her: "My Emmie's back! Where's the divorce certificate? Let me see."

There wasn't a trace of anger in the old woman's eyes, just pure curiosity.

Emily didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Grandma, I'm leaving the country in two days. Please take care of yourself."

The old lady pulled her to sit on the sofa: "Don't worry, Emmie. Grandma's body is strong as ever. Sit down quickly, don't tire yourself out. You're moving for one but tired for two now. Susan! Bring out the Australian abalone soup and all the fish maw, everything! We need to nourish Emmie properly!"

Susan quickly responded, and soon the table was almost overflowing with supplements.

The old lady was beaming: "Emmie dear, eat as much as you want! Being too thin isn't good, you'll suffer when it's time to give birth. These are all made by top chefs, not fishy at all..."

Suddenly, Alex, who had just come downstairs, heard these words and froze mid-step.

Suffer?

Nourish her body?

Alex stood at the stairway landing, stunned, even feeling a hint of excitement he hadn't noticed himself.

He strode down the stairs, "You're pregnant?"

Emily's heart jumped.

She kept her composure and immediately shot back: "Does Mr. Baker have bad hearing? Or... are you hoping I'm pregnant?"

The indifference in her eyes made Alex's presence even more intimidating.

He walked closer, step by step, his gaze sharp enough to see right through her: "Answer me."

Seeing this, the old lady immediately shielded Emily behind her and glared at him: "You brat, stop being so bossy! Let me tell you, from today on, Emmie is my adopted granddaughter. She has nothing to do with you anymore, so stop trying to scare her!"

Adopted granddaughter?

Alex's brow furrowed deeply, his face darkening instantly: "You..."

Emily said: "Big brother, looking forward to your guidance from now on."

The man's face turned almost black as ink, "Who wants you as a sister?"

The old lady lifted her chin and looked at him with determination: "That's not up to you, you brat! Emmie is my granddaughter now, and as her brother, you better take good care of her. If you dare bully her again, I won't let you off!"

She even waved the antique piece in her hand.

It was from Alex's study, something he never let anyone touch.

Alex's aura was frighteningly oppressive.

But Emily smiled even more relaxed, her eyes full of mockery: "Big brother, Grandma has spoken. You wouldn't disobey her, would you?"

Calling him "big brother" over and over came so naturally.

Why hadn't she noticed before how satisfying it was to see this man frustrated?

Seeing this, the old lady immediately pulled Emily toward the dining table: "Ignore him, let's eat."

Susan had just finished setting up the table.

Emily glanced at it—all nourishing and light dishes, perfect for her current appetite.

She deliberately chose the seat next to the old lady, directly across from Alex.

But just as she picked up her knife and fork, her phone suddenly rang.

Emily answered, her tone calm: "Hello."

"Miss Johnson, we've found a buyer for that downtown apartment you listed. The price is close to what you expected, the buyer is paying in full, and they can transfer ownership anytime."

Hearing this, a flash of relief crossed Emily's eyes: "Okay, got it. I'll find time in the next couple of days to handle the paperwork."

After hanging up, she looked up and met Alex's deep, dark eyes.

He had heard every word of the conversation and narrowed his eyes: "Which property are you selling?"

Downtown...

Emily smiled: "I'm selling my own property. What does it have to do with you?"

Alex felt a suffocating pain in his chest. He pressed his tongue against his cheek and laughed coldly: "How ruthless. You're even selling the house. Planning never to come back?"

Emily glanced at him coolly: "None of your business."

The hall fell silent for a moment.

The knife and fork cut through the tender, juicy steak.

Alex remained expressionless, his noble and distant demeanor making it impossible for anyone to guess what he was thinking.

He knew Emily had really made up her mind, leaving no trace of attachment.

Suddenly.

Alex's eyes darkened slightly, and he spoke with a cold laugh: "Since Grandma has adopted you as her granddaughter, then from now on, you should also share in the Baker family's responsibilities."

Emily paused mid-meal: "What do you mean?"

"Come to the company with me." Alex's emotions churned, "Help handle some miscellaneous tasks. Consider it doing your duty as a sister."

He deliberately emphasized "sister."

Emily raised an eyebrow, shrugging indifferently: "Fine, I'll go. I've got nothing else to do anyway."

They were already divorced—what did she have to worry about?

Half an hour later.

Baker Corporation lobby.

Emily followed him into the building, feeling completely calm inside.

The receptionist looked surprised to see her and quickly said respectfully: "Good day, Mr. Baker. Good day, Mrs. Baker."

But Emily smiled warmly: "Your Mr. Baker and I are divorced now. You should use a different title from now on."

Alex, who was about to go upstairs, barked angrily: "Emily, get in here!"

Several employees in the lobby jumped in fright and immediately looked away.

But Emily didn't care: "I've ordered afternoon tea for everyone. Remember to pick it up later."

Everyone's eyes lit up.

She waved her phone—coffee, cakes, and scones, everything was there.

She was spending Alex's money anyway.

Alex's expression softened slightly as he pressed the elevator button: "Pointless gesture."

Emily stood beside him: "I didn't buy any for you. Why do you care?"

Hearing this, the man's face darkened again.
