Chapter 60 Declaration of Sovereignty
This woman is definitely doing this on purpose.
Alex walked straight into the elevator: "If you don't come now, you can take the stairs."
Emily was speechless and grabbed her bag to follow.
With such a terrible temper, she really made the right choice divorcing him. She had no idea what she saw in Alex back then.
Emily walked in expressionlessly: "Mr. Baker being so petty makes people think the project isn't going well and you're short on cash."
"What, want me to reimburse you?" Alex put his hands in his pockets.
Emily raised her delicate eyebrows: "Can you?"
Alex's mouth twitched.
When did she become so shameless?
He said nothing more.
Emily smiled with curved eyes, looking completely relaxed and carefree.
She's actually happy about this?
Ding—
The elevator climbed all the way to the top floor.
"Rare to visit Mr. Baker's office. How do you want me to share company duties, hmm? Brother." Emily walked out first, asking unhurriedly.
He said nothing with a cold face and strode into the office.
"Oh? Miss Johnson is here too. Please sit." Grace wore a knitted cream-colored dress, her long hair flowing over her shoulders, looking gentle and graceful.
She was sitting on the sofa with a thermal food container beside her, acting as naturally as if she were the lady of the house.
Seeing Emily, she slowly stood up. "Really, Alex, why didn't you tell me? If I'd known we had a guest, I would have brought more than one nutritious meal."
"Come, Miss Johnson, try some Barnian coffee. I just made it for Alex." As she spoke, she pushed the coffee cup forward, and while standing up, naturally hooked her arm through Alex's in an intimate gesture.
Alex narrowed his eyes but didn't pull away, slowly looking at the person across from him, inexplicably anticipating her reaction.
But Emily just calmly took the coffee cup and said with a smile: "Miss Miller and Mr. Baker really are a perfect match. The coffee smells wonderful, but unfortunately my stomach hasn't been well lately. How about packing some for me to take away?"
Her calm reaction stunned them both.
Grace was surprised, then smiled: "I often come to the company to take care of him. Everyone here is used to it, don't mind it."
Emily actually became somewhat interested: "Why would I mind? Miss Miller is pregnant, you shouldn't overwork yourself. Brother, why don't you help her sit down?"
Hilarious. Weren't these two all lovey-dovey before? Now they're just standing there like telephone poles?
Alex felt complicated. The Emily before him showed no jealousy, no anger, as if none of this had anything to do with her.
Grace was shocked: "Brother? You two..."
Emily slowly put down the coffee cup, her gaze sweeping over both of them: "What, he didn't tell you about the divorce? Congratulations Miss Miller, you're about to get what you want. I'm now Margaret's acknowledged granddaughter. Who knows, you might end up being my sister-in-law."
As her words fell, Grace was instantly overjoyed!
Divorced already?
Much sooner than she'd imagined.
She pretended to be surprised, covering her mouth, though her eyes couldn't hide her delight: "Alex, you did this for me, I'm so touched... Miss Johnson, don't be sad. You can't force feelings. I'm sure you'll find someone better."
These words sounded ridiculous to Emily: "Of course. Men are everywhere, no need to fight over them, no need to chase after them only to get a cold shoulder."
At this moment, Alex's face darkened terribly.
Just divorced and already so eager to push him away?
"Emily, don't..."
"Don't worry Miss Johnson, I'll definitely take good care of Alex." Grace walked over to Alex's side and hooked her arm through his.
She practically pressed her entire upper body against the man's arm.
Alex didn't push her away, even tacitly allowing it.
His gaze locked tightly on Emily, waiting for her to show even the slightest bit of concern.
But Emily just said mockingly: "Miss Miller, Mr. Baker's tie is crooked."
Grace paused, then laughed softly and raised her hand to fix it.
But before her fingers could touch the tie, Alex stepped aside to avoid her.
With a dark face, he scolded sharply: "Emily, have you made enough of a scene!"
Emily sneered: "How am I making a scene? Miss Miller will be Mrs. Baker sooner or later anyway, do I need to say it? Doesn't the whole company already assume it?"
Just then, someone knocked on the office door.
The assistant walked in nervously with documents: "Mr. Baker, I'll just leave these here and go..."
He was on the verge of tears. Why did he have to walk into this battlefield?
"Wait."
Suddenly, Emily stopped him: "Please help me distribute the afternoon tea."
She even waved her phone.
The assistant didn't know what to say anymore.
This workday was completely unmanageable.
Emily casually brushed past the man beside her, too lazy to look at his sullen face. Moreover, with Grace showing off here, she really didn't want to waste her time: "You two take your time chatting, I won't disturb you."
With that, she stood up to leave.
But the flat carpet in front of her was suddenly kicked up by someone, creating a bulge. If she hadn't noticed, she would have tripped and fallen flat.
The coldness in Emily's eyes deepened.
Not only did she not dodge, but she deliberately stepped on it, precisely landing on Grace's foot.
"Ah!" Grace screamed in pain, lost her balance and fell onto the sofa, her face instantly turning pale.
Emily was even grabbed by her, stumbling a few steps.
In that split second, Alex almost instinctively rushed over, his broad and strong palm immediately supporting Emily's slender waist. His eyes showed concern: "Are you alright?"
Emily was stunned for a moment, then immediately withdrew from his embrace: "I'm fine, go check on Grace."
The air froze momentarily.
Grace sat stiffly on the sofa, her face full of disbelief: "Alex, you..."
She never imagined that Alex would rush to help Emily first.
It had never been like this before!
Grace's nails dug deep into her palms. The next second, she looked fragile as two lines of tears fell: "Miss Johnson, I know you don't like me. I've tried my best to please you. But why did you push me? Can't Alex and I love each other freely? You... you're going too far!"
She slumped on the sofa, her ankle throbbing with dense pain from the twist.
Emily sneered: "I pushed you? What are you, that you're worth me laying hands on?"
Grace's face looked terrible.
But the more it was like this, the harder she cried, "Alex, Miss Johnson is bullying me. I'm pregnant. She's so mean-spirited, no wonder the Johnson family almost went bankrupt back then. This is karmic retri..."
Slap!
Before she could finish, Emily backhanded a slap across her face.
