Chapter 61 A Visitor

Chapter 61 A Visitor
The Cosmic Palace’s cool, ethereal hum still resonated in Jaden’s ears. He moved through Spasio City’s labyrinth, a phantom in the bustling human world, his senses attuned to the unique signature of the Alpha.
Yeseus. The rogue Alpha. The blight-ridden beast. Jaden had studied him, observed him from afar, witnessed the fierce, unwavering loyalty that bound him to Klishei. It was a devotion that simultaneously commanded respect and threatened cosmic order.
He found his target on a deserted rooftop, high above the city’s indifferent glow. The Alpha stood silhouetted against the nascent moon, its silver light outlining the powerful curve of his shoulders.
Jaden materialized a few paces behind him, his arrival a whisper of displaced air.
“The night air agrees with you, Alpha,” Jaden’s voice, a low current, rippled through the quiet space.
Yeseus did not flinch, did not turn. His broad shoulders remained impassive. Yeseus had expected him.
“You have excellent timing,” Yeseus’s voice, a gravelly rumble, held no surprise. “I felt your presence when you first touched this area. You move with a heavy tread for one so light.”
Jaden allowed himself a small, unamused smile. “My apologies. The urgency of my mission compels me. My name is Jaden.”
“Your mission.” Yeseus did not even care to make a reaction upon hearing Jaden's name. “It concerns Klishei.”
“Naturally,” Jaden affirmed, taking a step closer. The distant hum of city life seemed to fade, replaced by the taut silence between them.
Yeseus finally turned, his blue eyes, usually vibrant and alive, now held a cold, unwavering intensity.
“Ripples,” Yeseus echoed, his tone flat. “You speak of something noble, Jaden, but at what cost? What of the life she carves for herself?”
“Peace is a luxury the cosmos cannot afford, Alpha,” Jaden countered, his voice losing its silken edge. “Not when its very fabric unravels. Her awakening, her fusion with the Phoenix, has set in motion events that transcend mortal understanding.”
“Her awakening was not by choice,” Yeseus stated, a possessive growl deep in his chest. “She sought to shed that power, to live a normal life.”
Jaden’s brow furrowed. “The prophecy of the Phoenix Bride predates your Alpha line, predates humanity’s written history. She is the Mother, the source of renewal. Her essence is vital for the continued existence of countless worlds, countless species. To deny her purpose is to invite oblivion.”
“And to force it is to invite destruction,” Yeseus snapped, his eyes flashing with a dangerous light.
Jaden’s tone sharpened. “She is a goddess, Alpha. Her destiny is to reign and restore. Not to languish on a dying world, tethered to a cursed beast whose touch drains her life force.”
Yeseus’s jaw tightened, a muscle clenching beneath his skin. The air around them grew heavy, charged with unspoken threat.
“You’re talking about my blight,” Yeseus’s voice was a low, dangerous whisper. “A curse, you say? A punishment for a crime I committed to protect this very world from the tyranny of my own kind.”
“Your actions, while perhaps noble in their intent, had consequences, Alpha,” Jaden replied, his gaze unwavering. “The blight is a wound upon your soul. And its interaction with the Phoenix’s essence creates a paradox. Her life force, meant to regenerate, is instead consumed by your decay. It is a slow, agonizing death for you both, a constant drain on her boundless power.”
“She is not dying,” Yeseus scoffed, a humorless sound.
“For now,” Jaden dismissed, a flicker of pity in his honey eyes.
Yeseus remained silent, his gaze dropping to the cityscape below, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes.
“And the solution?” Yeseus finally asked, his voice devoid of emotion. “To shackle her to your Dragon King? To force her into a union she does not desire, to a purpose she rejects?”
“Her purpose is not a matter of desire, Alpha,” Jaden said, his patience wearing thin. “It is an imperative. The Dragon King, Zarakhi, is the rightful ruler, the balance to her creative force. Their union is foretold, essential. She will ascend, she will reign, and in doing so, she will restore the harmony of the cosmos.”
“And what of me?” Yeseus’s eyes, now a chilling, vibrant blue, locked onto Jaden. “What of the ‘cursed beast’ who stands in her way?”
Jaden hesitated, choosing his words carefully. “The King understands your devotion. He respects your strength. But your interference, your continued presence, creates a complication.”
“A complication,” Yeseus repeated, the word dripping with disdain. “So, you propose to remove this ‘complication’?”
“The King has commanded her presence,” Jaden stated, his voice firm. “She will come to the Cosmic Palace. She will meet her destiny.”
“She chose her destiny,” Yeseus growled, taking a slow, deliberate step towards Jaden. The air crackled around him, a tangible pressure emanating from his form. “She chose me. She chose this world. She chose to be Klishei Aizal.”
“Her choices, in this matter, are irrelevant,” Jaden declared, holding his ground, though a faint, almost imperceptible tremor ran through his gauntleted hand. “The cosmos demands its Queen. And I am here to ensure that demand is met.”
“You will not touch her,” Yeseus said, his voice dropping to a low, guttural snarl, a sound that vibrated deep in Jaden’s chest, a primal warning from an ancient predator. “You will not take her from this world. Not while I draw breath.”
“Your breath, Alpha,” Jaden retorted, a cold defiance entering his tone, “is already fading. The blight gnaws at your immortality. Every moment you spend with her accelerates your decay. You are a dying star, clinging to a vibrant sun, consuming its light as you dim.”
Yeseus laughed, a harsh, humorless sound that echoed across the deserted rooftop. “Then let it consume me. Let her light burn me to ash. For every moment I have with her, every touch, every kiss… it is a price I will pay a thousand times over.”
He took another step, his presence overwhelming, the raw power of the Alpha radiating from him. Jaden instinctively braced himself, his hand subtly drifting towards the celestial sword at his hip.
Yeseus leaned closer, his eyes blazing, a feral intensity in their depths. “Go back to your Cosmic Palace, Jaden. Tell him that if he wishes to claim her, he will have to pry her from my cold, dead hands. And believe me, Jaden, when I say, that will be a battle he will not win.”
Jaden met Yeseus’s gaze.
“Your devotion is noted, Alpha,” Jaden finally said. “But the King’s will is absolute. And he will not be denied.”
Yeseus merely smiled, a chilling, predatory baring of teeth. “Then let him come. This world has seen its share of dragons. And I, Jaden, have always enjoyed a good hunt.”
Jaden held Yeseus’s gaze for a long moment, the weight of the coming conflict pressing down on him. He knew the Alpha’s resolve. He also knew the Dragon King’s unyielding will. This would not end peacefully.
With a final nod, Jaden’s form shimmered, dissolving into the cool night air, leaving Yeseus alone on the rooftop. The city lights continued their oblivious dance below, unaware of the chess game unfolding above them.
