Chapter 60 The Dragon King Calls

Chapter 60 The Dragon King Calls
The cool, vast expanse of the Cosmic Palace stretched, an impossible architecture of starlight and swirling nebulae. Pillars of compressed cosmic dust glittered, supporting a vaulted ceiling that mirrored the endless void, studded with constellations that blinked.

At its heart, upon a throne carved from a single, gleaming black hole, sat Zarakhi. His form, usually a shimmering blend of starlight and shadow, was solidified today, a testament to his mounting impatience. Scales, the color of twilight, rippled across powerful limbs, and his eyes, twin galaxies of violet and gold, burned with a cold, ancient fire.

“Jaden,” his voice boomed, a sound that resonated with the weight of forgotten stars, “you linger.”

A ripple in the space beside the throne, and Jaden materialized, not with the usual flash, but with a reluctant sigh, as if tearing himself from a pleasant dream. His silver hair, usually meticulously styled, was slightly ruffled, and a faint blush lingered on his cheeks. He bowed, a practiced, fluid motion, but the deference felt thin, almost a parody.

“My King,” Jaden’s voice, a smooth melody, held a trace of weariness. His own eyes, pools of liquid silver, remained carefully guarded, not quite meeting Zarakhi’s piercing gaze.

Zarakhi’s tail, thick as an ancient redwood, swished, stirring currents of cosmic energy. The black hole throne seemed to deepen, pulling at the ambient light.

“For how long have you ‘observed’ now, Jaden? The Phoenix Bride should be here, awaiting her ascension, her union. Instead, she remains on that insignificant mudball, entangled with a beast.” The word dripped with disdain, a venomous hiss.

Jaden straightened, his composure returning, a subtle shield against the Dragon King’s wrath.

“The prophecy, my King, dictates a delicate dance. It speaks of a willing heart, a conscious choice. To take her by force or drag her here against her will would violate the ancient tenets. The Phoenix must choose her path. Her essence, her boundless power, would chafe under coercion, rendering her less effective. The union would be flawed.”

Zarakhi scoffed, a puff of stardust escaping his nostrils. The air around him grew heavy, charged with his displeasure.

“Flawed? Her purpose is clear. To replenish the waning power of the Cosmos, to birth a new era of balance. Her ‘will’ is secondary to the needs of the universe. She is a vessel, nothing more. A means to an end.”

Jaden’s silver eyes flickered, a momentary tremor of something akin to pity.

“She is more than a vessel, my King. The human spirit, when infused with cosmic power, takes on a resilience, a defiant spark that even we, the ancient ones, often underestimate. Her will and choice is paramount to the full manifestation of the Phoenix’s potential. A forced union, a broken spirit, would yield only a fraction of what is needed. The prophecy foresaw this. It stated that the Phoenix’s heart must yearn for the king, a longing born of destiny, not subjugation.”

“Then why does her heart not ‘yearn’?” Zarakhi’s voice was a low growl, the celestial tapestry behind him darkening, as if even the stars held their breath. “The pheromones of the Phoenix, the very essence of her being, should draw her to me, to the rightful ruler of the Cosmos. Her body, her soul, should ache for this union. What is prevents this?”

Jaden hesitated, a deep breath filling his chest. The truth, he knew, would only inflame the King further. But half-truths, with Zarakhi, were always worse.

“Yeseus Garashi.”

The name hung in the starlit air, a discordant note in the cosmic symphony. Zarakhi’s violet and gold eyes narrowed to slits, his scales rippling violently.

“The rogue Alpha? The murderer of his own kind? The blight-ridden beast? You dare suggest he holds sway over the Phoenix Bride?”

“He arrived first, my King,” Jaden continued, his voice steady despite the palpable shift in Zarakhi’s aura. “He intercepted Daevar’s initial attempts. He provided her with a sanctuary, a sense of protection when she was most vulnerable. He offered her a choice, a semblance of agency, even as he manipulated her circumstances.”

“Manipulation?” Zarakhi echoed, a low, dangerous rumble. “He understands the human heart, my King, in a way we often fail to. He recognized her fear, her confusion, her desire for normalcy. He presented himself as her protector, her anchor in a world turned upside down.” Jaden paused, weighing his next words. “And more critically, he has… intertwined with her.”

Zarakhi’s roar shook the very foundations of the Cosmic Palace. Pillars of stardust trembled, and distant galaxies flared.

“Intertwined? Speak plainly, Jaden! What treachery has this Alpha wrought upon my destined Queen?”

Jaden winced, a flicker of genuine discomfort crossing his features.

“He has engaged her in physical intimacy, my King. Repeatedly.”
Zarakhi rose from his throne, his form expanding, filling the cosmic hall with his immense, draconic presence. Stars in the ceiling dimmed, swallowed by his shadow.

His gaze sharpened, piercing Jaden’s carefully constructed composure. “This blight of his, this curse that clings to him, does it not also affect her? His touch— does it not also weaken her, drain her, as it drains him?”

Jaden shifted, his silver eyes finally dropping.

“It is a complex interaction, my King. The Phoenix’s essence, being a source of life, counteracts the blight’s decay within Yeseus, temporarily revitalizing him.”

Zarakhi’s voice was dangerously soft, a silken thread of menace. “And this ‘bond’, it prevents her from recognizing her true purpose, her true mate?”
“It clouds her judgment, my King. It distracts her. It makes her believe that her destiny lies with him, in that dying world, rather than here, at the heart of the Cosmos, with you.”

Zarakhi returned to his throne, his massive frame settling with a thud that reverberated through the cosmic hall.

“Then that distraction must be removed. If his presence is what tethers her, then his presence must cease.” He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a low, guttural command, filled with ancient authority. “Jaden, you have observed enough. You have explained enough. Now, you will act. Go to Earth. Find the Phoenix Bride. And sever that bond.”

Jaden flinched, a cold dread coiling in his gut. Severing the bond, with a Phoenix of Klishei’s unique fusion, would be no simple task. And Yeseus, for all his flaws, was a formidable opponent.

“My King, the prophecy explicitly states a willing heart. To force her now—”

“I care not for the nuances of ancient texts when the balance of the universe hangs precariously,” Zarakhi interrupted, his voice rising, regaining its thunderous power. “If Yeseus Garashi stands in the way of cosmic order, then he will be swept aside.” He pointed a clawed finger at Jaden, the tip glowing with raw cosmic energy.

“Fetch my Bride, Jaden. And do not return without her. The Cosmos demands its Queen. And I, the Dragon King, will not be denied.”

The command hung in the air, absolute and undeniable. Jaden bowed, a deeper, more genuine bow this time, the weight of the order pressing down on him. The portal to Earth shimmered, beckoning him towards a confrontation he knew would shatter more than just a human heart.
