Chapter 130
Chapter 130
Kelly
The world had turned against me. Kate had made sure of that. I sat in the living room, staring at the television screen as news anchors dissected every word of her press conference. Every accusation. Every lie.
"Did Kelly Brook manipulate her father’s will?"
"Could she be hiding him?"
"And what about the DNA test? Is she even his real daughter?"
I tightened my grip on the remote, my fingers trembling. Kate had twisted everything. She didn’t just want to take the inheritance, she wanted to get rid of me.
"Kelly."
Adrian’s voice pulled me back.
I turned. He was standing by the window, his jaw clenched, his posture slightly dull. He had been on the phone for the past hour, making calls, pulling every connection he had. But it wasn’t enough.
Nothing was enough.
And then, my phone vibrated. I flinched, heart hammering. Unknown number.
"Davis."
A chuckle. Slow. Taunting..
"You’re running out of time, Kelly."
My stomach knotted.
"Where is he?"
"I love it when you go straight to business" Davis sighed. "I thought you’d be busy dealing with your sister. She really knows how to put on a show."
My grip tightened. "Tell me where my father is."
Davis hummed.
"Fine. I’ll be generous. Here’s the deal, you want your daddy? Come get him."
A message popped up. A different location.
"And Kelly," Davis added, voice dripping with amusement. "Come alone, don’t disobey me like last time."
The line went dead. Silence crashed over the room.
Adrian was watching me.
"What did he say this time?" he asked.
I showed him the message. His expression darkened.
"It’s a trap, again" he said immediately.
"I know."
"Then we’re not going."
"I don’t have a choice, Adrian." My voice cracked. "He has my father."
Adrian stared at me. Then he took a deep breath, ran a hand through his hair, and said..
"Then we go together."
Before we could leave, the doorbell rang. I flinched.
Adrian grabbed his gun, checking the peephole before opening the door. A delivery man holding an envelope. My stomach dropped.
"Miss Kelly Brook?" the man asked.
I nodded, taking it. He left without another word. I stared at the envelope. It had one thing written on the front.
DNA TEST RESULTS from Kate.
Adrian moved beside me.
"Are you going to open it?
I didn’t answer. My hands felt frozen. If I opened it and it was…. Adrian gently took the envelope from me.
"We don’t have time for this."
He was right. My father came first. I forced myself to breathe and nodded.
"Let’s go."
…….
The location Davis sent was in an abandoned industrial district. No streetlights. No cameras. No way out. The second we pulled up, my instincts screamed hell no. Adrian killed the engine.
I knew we were walking straight into his trap, again, but what choice did we have? I can’t watch him harm my father when I don’t even know what he did exactly.
"This is bad," he muttered. "There could be snipers, traps—"
“I know."
He turned to me. His facial expression serious.
"Stay behind me. No matter what."
I nodded. Then, we stepped out. The warehouse was few walkes from the entrance, it looked Rusted, hollow even. We moved toward the entrance, Adrian scanning the area, his hand hovering over his gun.
Unlike Davis’s other secret hideout, they were no security guards here. Adrian reached for the door and then, a voice echoed from inside.
"You’re late."
Adrian pushed the door open. We stepped inside. The warehouse was empty. Except for one chair, and in it, my father was tied up. He wasn’t moving.
I sucked in a deep breath.
“Dad!"
I ran forward, but Adrian grabbed my arm.
"No." His voice was sharp. "It’s a setup."
I turned, and that’s when I saw Davis. Standing behind my Dad, smiling.
"How touching," he said. "Family reunion?"
My blood boiled.
"Let him go, Davis."
He tsked.
"Now, Kelly. You didn’t follow instructions. I said to come alone."
Adrian stepped in front of me, gun raised.
"Let’s end this," Adrian said. "Right now."
Davis laughed.
"Oh, I planned on it."
My chest tightened. Davis grinned.
"Welcome to the game, Kelly."
The lights cut out, and darkeness swallowed us whole.
