Chapter 131
Chapter 131
Kelly
The warehouse was pitch-black, the only source of light coming from the streetlamp outside. I was tired of Davis’s silly games, same pattern, same ways, all he wanted was to lure me to wherever he was and play his stupid games, and I was seriously tired of it. Sparks from the shattered overhead bulb still cracked in the distance, but everything else was still.
I pressed myself against the cold concrete floor, my heart hammering in my chest. My eyes struggled to adjust, but all I could make out were shadows shifting in the dark.
Somewhere in the distance, my father let out a weak cough.
"Dad!" My voice came out hoarse, filled with panic.
"kelly," he rasped. ”I’m here"
A deep chuckle filled the warehouse, low and full of amusement. He was enjoying this.
"Touching," he mocked. "But how long will that last?"
A click echoed, a gun being turned on. I barely had time to react before something cold pressed against the back of my head.
"Game over, Kelly."
I went still. I could feel his breath, warm against my skin. His grip on the gun was strong that my whole body trembled.
"Did you really think you could run from me?" Davis taunted. "After everything your family did?"
I gritted my teeth. "What do you want, Davis? What do you get out of this?”
He laughed softly, the sound sending a shiver down my spine.
"You already know, Kelly."
A sudden movement to my right. It was Adrian. Davis must’ve seen it too because he shoved me forward, spinning to face Adrian with the gun raised.
"Uh-uh," he warned. "Not another step, lover boy."
Adrian stilled, his hands clenching into fists.
"You don’t want to do this, Davis."
"Don’t I?" Davis tilted his head.
"See, Adrian, I lost everything because of them. Because of him."
He gestured toward my father, still slumped in the chair, barely conscious.
"My father was murdered," Davis continued, his voice turning sharp. "And yours?" He turned to me. "Still breathing. Not exactly fair, is it?"
My chest tightened. I couldn’t make sense of what he was saying? What does his father’s death has to do with my dad?
"What are you even talking about ?"
Davis’s smile disappeared.
"What am I talking about?” He repeated, glaring at me.
As if I was not understanding what he was saying wasn’t enough. He raised the gun, and pointed it at my father.
"Tell me, Kelly." His voice was calm. "Does your father deserve to live?"
Davis watched as I panicked, my eyes shooting blood red, I nearly slopped, but stood strong enough for Davis not to see my weakness, because he thrived in it.
"What?" My voice cracked, fear evident in my tone.
"You heard me." Davis grinned. "Beg for him. Show me that he’s worth saving."
My father was a criminal. A liar. A man who had ruined my life and our family. But he was still my father. And I wasn’t going to let him die like this.
"Don’t do this, Davis." My voice was steady, but my hands were shaking. "It’s me you want, take me instead, but leave my father please”
No," Davis replied. "But it’ll make me feel better."
He pulled the gun back. The click was deafening. And then, Adrian moved. It happened so fast. Adrian lunged forward, grabbing Davis’s arm. The gun fired, a deafening sound.
The bullet missed, hitting the concrete wall behind us. Adrian twisted Davis’s wrist, trying to knock the gun free. They struggled, a violent, desperate fight.
Davis was strong, but Adrian was trained. Fists flew. Grunts echoed. Every movement was deadly. And in all of this, I was still as clueless as ever….Everything Davis had said seemed like a joke to me, coupled with the fact that nobody was telling me what I should know.
I scrambled forward, trying to help. But then, Davis broke free. And the gun was back in his hand. Aimed at Adrian.
My blood ran cold. Not again.
"No!" I screamed.
But Davis pulled the trigger, a shot rang out. But, It wasn’t from his gun. Davis’s body jerked back. His eyes went wide, his grip on the gun loosening. A dark red stain spread across his shirt. Slowly, his knees buckled. And then, he collapsed.
My breath caught in my throat. I spun around to see Lucian. Standing in the shadows, gun still raised, behind him were other cops.
His expression was unreadable, but his eyes, they burned with something fierce.
"You took quite too long," he said simply.
Davis let out a strangled cough, his body twitching. Blood pooled beneath him. But it wasn’t over yet. Because as Lucian stepped forward, Davis reached for the gun one last time.
Adrian saw it first.
"Kelly, move!"
And then, another gunshot. Everything blurred. And when I looked down, blood covered my hands.
