Chapter 103 Intervention {Rosie}

Chapter 103 Intervention
“Oh!”

A gasp tore out of me. A new burst of energy travelled all over me when I felt the kick in my stomach.

A reminder of the life that was growing in me. The first kick was small, soft but the second kick brought me to my knees.

“Oh!” Another sob escaped me. My tears started afresh, I dropped the pair of scissor i was holding and wrapped my hands around myself.

Shame washed over me in an instant. I was a coward. Of course i thought to take the easy way out, forgetting I had an innocent life in me.

I crawled over to the wall and rested my back against it. The movements were unpredictable but he was moving around, trying to get comfortable.

“I’m so sorry.” I whispered as I rubbed my round stomach in circular motion as if to calm him down.

“You are mummy’s savior, you know that?” I cooed. It felt nice talking to my baby. In that moment, I didn’t feel alone.

“I’m going to endure as much as I can because of you, my baby.” I sniffled. “You’re the best thing to happen to me.” The movement came to a slow stop. I guessed the soft talking and soothing belly rubs calmed him down.

He must have sensed the dangerous thoughts brewing in my head.

I looked at the pair of scissors laying by my side. Now that mind was a bit clearer, the weight of my thoughts dawned on me.

I was really going to kill myself with the scissors. I broke into a bitter laughter and picked up the scissor.

No. This wasn’t how my story would end. Mama told me she didn’t want me to end up like her and that meant not staying in a toxic relationship, it meant having my own freedom over my body, over my thoughts and over my actions.

I survived five years without Berlo’s or papa’s interference. I’ve gone through struggles I never thought I would ever encounter.

I’ve washed and dried dishes with my own hands without manicure. I served rude and arrogant strangers, I washed restrooms and took out trash cans.

And when my life took a great turn, I fell in love in the midst of it all. I even worked as a personal assistant for billionaire without graduating from an elite college or meeting the requirements to land such a job but I succeeded.

The journey may have been rough but I achieved a lot more as Elizabeth than as Rosie and I was proud of myself.

My heart ached when I remembered Kieran.

Was it true what Berlo said? That he told Kieran I was a spy? I wouldn’t put it past him.

Kieran would have done his digging and found out everything by now and without me to straighten things out, all evidence points that I was indeed sent to spy on him.

He would believe I had betrayed him once again. The love he claimed to have for me must have turned into hatred.

He must be so furious. It was futile but I prayed he still believed that I truly love him. I hoped when he slept at night, he would think about me. I wanted him to save me like he always did but if Kieran should come to Italy, Berlo would kill him.

He ruled Italy with iron fist along with my father. He might be a psychopath but he was a smart strategist and he was ruthless.

Berlo kept a record of his enemies and how he tortured them for his own sick amusement.

It was after that I fled, I knew I had to escape unless I would end up in the list. He’d separate families, throw female children into prostitution and made money off them. If they ever tried to escape, he’d kill them in cold blood and deliver their bodies to their parents in a box.

He worked with poison and drugs. Names of powerful politicians in Italy who mysteriously died to unknown sickness. Berlo was behind their deaths, somehow poisoning them with undetectable poisons and overdose of drugs.

There must be a way I could survive and escape Berlo once more. With my hands bound, I picked up the scissor.

There was no mirror anywhere in the basement that I could use to watch myself but it didn’t matter.

My mind was made up, if Berlo thought he could use me, he had another thing coming.

I inhaled with determination as I raised my shaky hands to my head and began chopping off my hair without direction.

A rebellious flame lit up inside me. I felt a sense of freedom by cutting my hair. It was freeing. Berlo wanted me because of my beauty, he loved my hair most especially.

My auburn red curls fell and dusted off my shoulders, floated down to my knees and to the floor. I continued until I couldn’t feel a handful of hair on my head anymore.

The area of the floor where I sat was covered with red strands. I dropped the scissors and released a breath of relief.
While I waited for Berlo, I somehow managed to fall asleep with my upper body on the mattress and my lower body on the cold concrete floor.

“What the fuck happened here?!”

Berlo’s shout jerked me from sleep. He must be appalled by the sight of me. Good. I rubbed the sleep in my eyes with the back of my bounded hands as I sat up straight with my back resting on the wall.

When I stopped rubbing, I looked up at Berlo who was standing on pieces of my cut hair. His face had turned red from the anger he was holding in.

My face remained passive, I copied my most hated Kieran’s expression. The death glare.

I hated that I couldn’t see his eyes with the stupid glasses he wore but I was sure my act of rebellion got to him.

“Why?” I asked, my voice dry and empty. “Don’t like my new look?”
