Chapter 12 Chapter 12
Milo’s POV
The Royal Ball was different than I had imagined. When I thought of the mafian king throwing a party, the first thing that came to my mind was wolves fighting and tearing against each other for the king's entertainment, groups of senseless wolves killing and eating prisoners meat for their enjoyment. or for him to parade me naked in front of his people to showcase his new toy.
But no, none of what i have heard while growing up happened. Rather, the grand hall filled up with festive air immediately, and he announced it open. The once depressing and gloomy atmosphere vanished like white smoke.
Music swelled through the air, soft violins, and haunted cellos from one of the best musicians in the world. Commanders in their expensive dark clothes mingled together, exchanging pleasantries just like any other civil person.
heaps and mountains of food that could feed all the members of my formal pack placed in front of me…, but I could only stare with drool in my mouth.
The aroma teased my nose, but that was all I could get because beside me was a small plate filled with bland green vegetables and one cup of milk. They called it pet food.
“At least there was milk.” I smiled bitterly, trying to console myself, as rounds and rounds of delicious food passed in my front.
As time passed, the room grew even wilder.
laughter, toasts, and crude jokes echoing like thunder against the grand walls. I couldn’t eat the food placed for me, no matter how I forced myself to. I know I would regret it, but I was not in the mood to eat anything for now.
Not when the weight of the vial hidden in my sleeves continued to press down on me.
Master hadn’t touched his wine yet. It sat in front of him, ruby-red and perfectly still.
My eyes kept drifting to it, and Catherine who continued to give me evil glances from time to time. Keeping me on my toes.
I know that my time is going, and I don't find a way to poison…
“No… not poison," I reminded myself. Catherin said it was a calming drug. It's just something to make him more… manageable. She had looked me in the eye and said,
“You’ll be doing the whole pack and yourself a favor. He won’t even feel it, just a little drowsy, and It will keep him from ever touching you again.”
But then I remembered the feeling of his mouth, the way he held me like he couldn’t afford to let me go. The hunger in his eyes threatened to drown me.
He hadn't branded me or done any nasty and evil things, like every master would do to their pet… At least not yet.
I bit my lip, confused at what to do.
But if I didn’t do this, she’d expose me. She’d tell everyone what I was, and my pack would be implicated. And then I would regret it forever.
I couldn't breath…I needed to get out
Without thinking, I whispered without thinking, “Master… May I be excused? I…I need to relieve myself…”
Master's golden eyes flicked down to me, narrowing.
For a moment, I thought he’d say no. I didn't even know if pets were allowed to ease themselves.
But then he leaned forward, his nose brushing the crook of my neck.
“You have one minute pet,” he murmured, sending goosebumps all over my skin.
I nodded quickly, slipping off his lap, bowing my head, and with cobbly knees, I hurried out of the hall. A few eyes followed me, but I didn't care. I just needed to breathe.
I poured cold water on my face, trying to cool my head
“Get yourself together. It's for your freedom, your survival…”
“Milo.”
The voice made my blood run cold.
Only one person knows my real name in this godforsaken building…
Catherine!
She stepped out of the darkness, like an evil shadow. I caught sight of her red gown before I felt myself slammed against the wall.
“You little worm,” she hissed.
I bit my cheeks from crying out in pain. “I…I’m just…”
“Don’t insult my intelligence,” she said, her heels tapping as she approached. “You still haven’t done it.”
I swallowed. “You said it would help him. That it wouldn’t hurt…”
Her hand shot out, gripping my chin in a tight grip
“I don’t care what I said,” she snapped, her angry face inches from mine. “Do it. Or I’ll make sure your king gets to strip you himself. We would see what he thinks when he finds out that you and your entire pack deceived the almighty mafian king.”
My heart slammed against my chest. The true nature of my condition suddenly dawned on me.
“You’ll be dead before dawn,” she whispered, brushing my cheek mockingly. “Your body hanging at the gates, and your little fraudulent pack destroyed, if you don't do this.”
I nodded,
“Good boy” Tears burned my eyes as she turned and walked away, the sound of her heels clicking hard on the marble floor fading from my perception.
I sensed that this might be a trap, but I didn’t know what she would gain from exposing me. Except that she made it perfectly clear of the consequences if I didn't do this.
Clutching the vial, I braced myself for what was about to happen as I turned towards the grand hall.
I managed to return to the hall.
My fingers trembled so badly that I nearly dropped the bottle hidden in the folds of my dress.
Master was laughing at something the visiting Alpha had said. He barely looked at me.
I sat stiffly on his lap, trying not to breathe too hard. without being noticed. But how could I,
His hands immediately wrapped around my waist possessively, bringing me closer
You were quick,” he murmured, nuzzling into my hair. “Good pet.”
My heart slammed into my ribs. I tried to stifle the shameful moan that almost made itself from my mouth.
My nervousness firing My omega genes
My eyes darted to the empty goblet in front of him, then the bottle of wine that was just beside it.
Now or never.
I hesitantly reached for the goblet of wine with my numb fingers.
He didn’t stop me, just a lazy glance before he returned back to his conversation.
That was a good sign, right?
With one hand, I slipped the vial from inside the sleeve of my rope dress, hidden perfectly against my skin.
My fingers trembled as I uncorked it beneath the tablecloth. Everybody was either engrossed in their conversation or just found it beneath them to spare me a glance.
And then
Just a few drops... I tilted the vial and watched the liquid swirl into the wine. Before it vanished instantly.
Everything happened in the space of a few seconds, I placed it back securely under my sleeves. my heart thudding in my ears. I sat beside him, trying not to scream.
Moments later, master lifted the cup, his eyes clearly trained on me.
I watched, my eyes almost popping out in horror as his throat moved, chugging down the whole content in one gulp.
My heart stopped.
