Chapter 40 Case -1
Kay burst out laughing at his wife's words, then shook his head as well. The initially awkward and cold atmosphere thawed, returning to the warmth of a normal husband-and-wife conversation. It would be something he never imagined.
"One day, when you're still my wife and suddenly something terrible happens to me, I hope you'll act like a wife who's lost her husband. I'll pass all my wealth on to you."
Julia was shocked by her husband's words. How could all his wealth pass to her upon his death? This was illogical, as her husband and she were married only because of a contract.
"Hey, what are you saying? Why do you want to give all your wealth to me? You should give it all to the woman you love, right? Even if you don't have a family."
Kay smiled wryly at this, then held her breath.
"I can't even eat to fall in love, so how can you say I have to give it to the woman I love? And right now, the only person closest to me is you. Just imagine if you've won the most spectacular lottery in your life. And you don't need to explain this at all, just do everything well. You can live your life to the fullest and enjoy your possessions with the man you married, because that would be so much better."
Hearing this certainly made Julia feel incredibly sad; the man's words sounded so strange. He couldn't fall in love? Or was that the only reason why her husband seemed unwilling to accept her hopes? Julia's hands gripped her tightly, then she tried to force him to open his mouth accidentally or tell the truth.
"Can you tell me one thing that isn't honest?"
Kay didn't answer, but the man remained silent as if waiting for his wife to ask him something.
"You said you're not allowed to fall in love, but what's wrong with that? Are mafia leaders forbidden from falling in love? After your assignments or missions are completed, don't you return to normal and live like normal people? Like now, right? And even if you were married, you'd never put your wife in danger, so how do you think you're not allowed to fall in love?"
Kay smiled wryly at this, then the man said something that shocked Julia even more. "This isn't about whether I can save my wife, or whether I mean the woman I love. But the problem is, before I was in this situation, my family had an enemy I didn't even know existed, and I'm absolutely certain that my parents' enemy has already found out and is even investigating who I am and who I'm currently with. Even marrying you right now is a truly terrible choice, and unfortunately, I made a foolish decision. I don't want to put my partner or the person I love in danger in any way, because my world truly has no place for falling in love, because anyone close to me will surely die a horrible death."
Julia was about to ask her husband again what happened, but he immediately went into the room and slammed the door shut. What really happened? What had happened to her husband's parents? Julia was truly curious and wanted to know more about this matter. Or was all of this related to the criminal her husband was currently searching for? Julia immediately contacted Rebecca to find out more about what her friend might be able to do.
"Rebecca, can you help me with something? I really want to ask you a few questions, and it's serious, and you shouldn't tell Mr. Michelle."
"About what? Didn't we tell you to find out the whereabouts of that terrifying mafia leader? You haven't even gotten a few clues yet, and you're already asking such nonsense. Come on, don't waste your energy looking for so many problems. You should focus on just one thing, and that's enough."
"This problem has to do with the mafia, so you think I should just stay silent and do nothing?"
Rebecca snorted at her friend's words, then began to ask what she needed.
"What?"
"Find me an incident that happened approximately 20 or 25 years ago about the murder of a married couple whose husband was the world's leading businessman, and they both died in a very sudden and tragic manner. Then find out the profiles of some of their business associates and send them all to me."
Luckily, before handing the file to Kay, Julia had copied the names of all the criminals involved. And when Julia found out, of course, she would have to match the names so she could figure out what really happened to her husband's parents.
"Okay, I'll send it to you as soon as I find out."
"Wait for me. I'll get everything ready, and I'll come with you. Besides, there are some things I need to take care of after this, and I hope you'll wait for me with such great devotion. Will you do that?"
Hearing this, Kay naturally agreed. After Julia's brief conversation with her best friend, everything would undoubtedly change drastically. And this would also have fatal consequences for everyone, because Julia knew her best friend's answer would determine who the real culprit was who killed her husband's parents.
"I will find the answer to why you're like this, and I will make sure whoever killed your parents gets what they deserve. This time, you're no longer a member of that terrifying mafia group; you're the man I'm currently fighting for."
Kay couldn't help but smile. Although he didn't know what was going through his wife's mind, for some reason, seeing her so eager to participate was a joy. He'd hardly ever discussed crime with any woman, and this would be something he'd never forget.
"I think you'll be the first woman I've ever discussed crime with, and it'll be quite fun. Let's see if your opinions and mine align and who's right in this case."
"Okay, do you dare bet with me?"
Kay smiled again and nodded.
"Agreed!"
