Chapter 24 Debate
Julia stopped in her tracks, then turned around to see Robin standing behind her with a piercing gaze.
"I'm sorry, sir. I have absolutely no idea what you mean," Julia said firmly, looking at Robin with an annoyed look.
"Explain to me what's really going on? Did you deliberately approach that man just because you feel like you have a grudge against me?"
Julia, who received such accusations from Robin, was ultimately very annoyed. She hadn't expected Robin's cunning attitude to persist. Julia had been courting customers perfectly; there was a lot to explain to this rather shameless man now.
"Shouldn't you give me an explanation for everything you've done? Or at least come to the office and tell me that you weren't kidnapped by any mafia in this world, but instead, you went to betray him. How could a police officer do something so infuriating?"
Robin swallowed hard. The woman in front of him, whom he had always known to be so gentle, had suddenly become as fierce as a lion. "What you did to me was unconscionable. I searched everywhere for you, even following every mafia group you were said to be with, feeling incredibly anxious and afraid that you might be killed at any moment. But it turns out you weren't in any danger at all, but instead, you took a new life by becoming a businessman and marrying another woman. Do you think that's being selfish? You're the most selfish man ever. I don't care if you might fall in love with any woman in this world, but at least tell me, or respect me. Just tell me honestly that you no longer love me. I'll back off, and I'll accept all your decisions without having to drive me crazy like that."
"I just want a much better life," Robin said it so matter\-of\-factly, as if she had no regrets whatsoever. "You must have known all this time that my salary as a secret police officer is very small, and I need a lot of money for many things." "It's not because you feel your salary is too small, but because you think it's too much. I've tried to give it to you, but I don't know what you used all the money for."
"I'm tired of living a hard life. You surely know where I come from. I came from an orphanage, where even as a child, I never felt parental love and never got anything I wanted. I had to compete with all the other children there for things, and even those things weren't always available. And now that I'm an adult and have some pretty good things, how can you blame me for this? I truly hate your words, which make me so upset."
Julia now knew who the man in front of her was. He was a cowardly man who didn't even know what to do about his mistakes, which should have been a priority and needed to be explained. Instead of apologizing or trying to explain anything, Robin became angry and seemed to curse everything that had happened in the past.
"If this is your choice, and you feel that whatever you choose isn't a mistake, what can I do? I can only support you, and I hope you'll be happy with your choice."
Robin returned his sharp gaze to Julia.
"What's your relationship with that young businessman?"
"We're husband and wife."
"I don't believe you." Robin grinned confidently, then looked back at the woman in front of him. "I know who you are, Julia. You're not the type of woman who falls in love easily, as you said earlier. In fact, some time ago, you came to me feeling incredibly disappointed, weren't you? You were angry and demanded an explanation, and then suddenly you came here with that man? Unfortunately, to this day, I still can't figure out why that man wanted to marry you. I'm sure he could have chosen a much better woman than you, or even the daughters of other businessmen, right?"
"Are you looking down on me now?" Julia was easily offended by Robin's words. "Even if there's a man who has no shame whatsoever and can't even appreciate who I am, it's only you. Kay is such a very understanding man; he doesn't view me in any way the way you do. Just because I have no position, just because I don't have money, does that make you think I'm not worthy of my husband's equal? It's so annoying, and I just found out that you only view things in terms of money."
"What else can I do? I want to live happily. I don't want to think only about love, which I don't think is important at all."
Julia's heart was definitely no longer with Robin. She never imagined things would turn out this way. Loving a man like Robin was a huge mistake and a waste of her time. "Now I know how my husband could think so lowly of you. He was so disgusted with you the first time he saw you. Any decision my husband makes is not solely my fault, and I suspect it's because of your bad attitude and character."
Julia wanted to leave, but Robin said something that really annoyed her.
"If I may ask you a favor, as a former colleague in the police force, tell your husband that I'm a capable enough businessman to prove I can make the best decisions and won't make him feel like he's losing out by investing in my father-in-law's company."
Julia's hands gripped her tightly, but the woman ignored Robin's words and went straight to the bathroom.
Kay, who heard the argument, could only smile wryly. She never imagined that there was a man even more despicable than him. How could he not, Kay was a mafia leader who often committed many crimes, hurting and harassing women being one of his frequent crimes. Yet, Kay had the heart to have an affair like that. But Robin was different, and this was something that irritated Kay.
"Anyone who tries to pressure or threaten my wife will never let me go," Kay said, looking at Robin with an annoyed gaze.
