Chapter 23 Robin Emotion
And now everything becomes even more difficult when he has to meet a businessman who seems so complicated, but he has no choice but to make the best decision because he knows that getting investment from this company is truly profitable and can make the company a lot of profit.
"Actually, if I may say, he doesn't come from a business background or anything like that, but believe me, his performance is truly extraordinary. He's a man who is willing to learn and able to learn very quickly. He used to be a member of the police force, what could be called a special police team that often handles some of the most complex cases in this country. Then he met my daughter and they fell in love. You're going to get married. Because I felt that working in the police force was unprofitable and uncertain, I ordered him and made him learn about business. "Just a sign, I'm looking at things from various angles, sir. Robin's father-in-law was again at a loss for an answer, then Kay smiled wryly.
"This is a very funny case. When you want me to invest in your company, then you introduce a son-in-law who hasn't even been in business for long, it really makes me very doubtful."
"How about we make a bet, sir? Give me time to prove to you that I'm worthy of this position. And if you still have doubts, I'm willing to let you not invest in my father-in-law's company at all. What do you think?"
Robin's father-in-law and his wife immediately turned to Robin with shocked expressions, but Kay, in contrast, remained remarkably calm in the face of Robin's words.
"What bet are you willing to make with me? If you can't afford it, would you mind if I took over your father's entire company without any conditions?"
Robin was speechless. Who exactly was this man in front of her? This man was truly a thug, eager to profit without any loss. He didn't hesitate to ask for such a large sum, making Robin gasp. She was at a loss for words, as this was undoubtedly a difficult decision, especially as it involved her father-in-law's finances and her company. "My husband, that offer seems quite appealing. However, if someone lacks the same guts as you, they would certainly never dare to make such a decision. Furthermore, from what I can see, this young man in front of you is quite gutless, or perhaps he can only dare to play behind your back like he usually does."
Feeling provoked by Julia's words, Robin immediately stood up with a look of annoyance. The man then looked at Julia seriously.
"Okay, I accept your offer. If I fail to win this bet, you can take all my assets and my father-in-law's company."
"Wait, wait a minute. This wasn't in the script at all, was it?" Robin's father-in-law objected further, and the man stood up and even abandoned the food in front of him.
"This seems like a private dispute between two people, so how can my company be the one at stake?"
"I'm not sure if it's a personal dispute between two people. "How can you treat me like this is a personal dispute between two people, sir? What if your arrival here introduces your useless son-in-law? Even a while ago, when we were both at the auction, he spent all his money on a momentary impulse, right? Isn't that enough proof that he's not a competent man to make the kind of decisions you're talking about? As a businessman, especially as a company leader, facing every problem calmly is something you must do. And in this conversation, he's already starting to get emotional. So what can we expect from a man like this? Can you guarantee that my money won't be lost because of your son-in-law?"
Robin's father-in-law immediately looked at his son-in-law and ordered him to apologize to Kay for his haste.
"Apologize to Mr. Harvey quickly. What you said was quite outrageous and has offended Mr. Harvey."
"Dad, can we leave that man alone? He's not a good businessman at all, yet he harbors an incredible grudge against me. For some reason, I feel like he hates me so much, and I can't accept this."
"Hate you for what? You're too big-headed for that, and it seems like you're overreacting. Besides, as a businessman, what Mr. Harvey did was right. You're the one who should be ashamed for going too far. You want to put my company at risk for your stupid decision? Of course I don't want that, and I won't let that happen."
"But, Dad—"
"Stop saying anything, because I'll never believe you after what happened at the auction."
Robin swallowed hard, not daring to say anything else, as he was fully aware that what he had wasn't his money, but belonged entirely to his father-in-law. The man tried to look at his wife for help, but she remained silent and didn't say anything.
"What exactly are you here for, Kay? To humiliate Robin or to collaborate together?"
"It all depends on you. Do you want revenge tonight, or do you want to gauge the time to continue your grudge against this man? I could have agreed to a partnership with them, and I don't care if I don't get my money back and they suffer significant losses. But embarrassing that man is quite enjoyable, and that's what I'm doing right now. Do you think what I'm doing is too much?"
Julia hadn't expected Kay to act like this. Her intimidation of Robin was truly extraordinary, even making the usually arrogant and talkative man fall silent. Robin didn't have any power, nor did he even have the means to act arrogantly in front of Kay. But Julia knew that if Robin possessed all of these qualities, he would be incredibly arrogant. Because what Kay said was true. Robin was a typical hot-tempered man who was easily provoked and would do anything to fulfill his ambitions because he didn't want to be humiliated and also had extremely high self-esteem. Of course, that wasn't salvageable right now.
"May I please go to the bathroom?" Julia excused herself, and Robin soon followed.
"Is all this part of your plan, Julia? Tell me now, or I'll tell everyone in the room that we used to be together."
