Brianna's POV

I couldn’t stop the tears as they rolled down my cheeks. My head was blank and I couldn’t think about anything. I kept pacing worriedly until the doctor came outside.

“Doctor, how is he?” I rushed to ask him

“I don’t know what answer to give you. I clearly said he wasn’t allowed to move around yet but not only did he not listen, he also got shot in the process. We successfully removed the bullet but he’s still unconscious right now. We can only hope that he gets better because he’s in a critical condition” the doctor said and left

I fell to the ground and cried harder. If only I had listened to Helen and had stayed by Ryan’s side, this wouldn’t have happened. That reminds me! Helen was brought in with Ryan!

I sprang up to my feet and went to meet one of the nurses I saw to ask her which ward she was in.

“Excuse me nurse. I need to see Helen Albert, which ward is she in?” I asked hurriedly

“I will need to check the records ma’am. Come with me” she said

I followed her and after checking for a few minutes, she finally saw Helen’s name in the book.

“She’s in ward 75, I will take you there”

I went with her to the ward and when I got in, Helen was lying down there looking lifeless.

“H…how is she?” I stuttered

“The bullet was taken out successfully but she lost a lot of blood before she was brought here. I’m sorry to say this but her chance of surviving is very low. If she isn’t able to pull it off, then she has 72 hours at most to leave” the nurse concluded and left

72 hours? That’s three days! I have to do something, I can’t let her die like this. If she dies from this, then it would mean I killed her. It’s already enough that Ryan is in a critical condition because of me, I can’t lose my best friend from this too.

I went to meet the doctor in his office to ask if there was anything I can do to save her.

"I'm sorry to say this Miss Brianna but there's nothing you can do to save her" the doctor said

"Please doctor. There must be anything that I can do at least to make her strong and help her pass through this difficult time" I pleaded

"Okay. When people are in coma, they can still hear what is being said to them. You can try talking to her calmly because she doesn't need noise right now. Hopefully, she will hear whatever you say and try to survive for you" the doctor said

"Okay" I stood up and headed to Brianna's ward

"Miss, your wound needs to be treated. Come with me for a few minutes" a nurse said

"I'm okay. I won't be getting treated until both of them wake up" I said and kept walking

I soon arrived at Helen's ward and I sat next to her while holding her hand.

"Helen. I don't know if you can hear me or not but I guess you can. You know how much you mean to me and yet you still risked your life to save me. I'm grateful that I have a friend that cares about me to that extent but have you thought about how I will feel if you leave me?

You've been my sister and best friend for a long time and you know that I love you so much. If I had listened to you, this wouldn't have happened and I regret it. I should have just stayed back and waited until Ryan wakes up.

If I could turn back the hand of time, I won't make the same decision but unfortunately, I can't. But I promise to listen to whatever you say from now on, just fight through this and come back to me please" I said with tears rolling down my cheeks

Justin's POV

I was able to escape from the mansion through the underground building this morning and I managed to take a few things with me.

I was really surprised to see Ryan alive and I thought it was his ghost until I shot him. How is it possible that he survived that accident? Even if he survived, how can it be so soon? It just doesn't make any sense.

"Boss, what are we supposed to do next? The police already pasted our pictures all over the city so we can't walk around freely" the man I took with me said

"Don't worry about that, let's just wait till night. Before then, we have to do something" I said

Both of us went to Ryan's mansion but there were guards there and since we were just two, there's no way we can deal with them.

If it was before what happened with Brianna, I would have gone in freely but I don't know if the guards here also know about me kidnapping Brianna.

"What are we going to do boss? The guards are many" the man said

"I know how to deal with it. Just wait for me here and I will be back soon" I said and jumped over the fence

It was hard to get in without the guards noticing but I managed to do it. There were two guards inside but fortunately, they were downstairs. Ryan's room was upstairs so I went there and closed the door after getting in.

I started searching and searching but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I don't know where Ryan keeps it but I know it's not at the hospital and it's not at the cartel either so this is the only place.

After searching for a while, I finally found a safe but it had a password and I sighed dejectedly. How exactly am I supposed to know the password?

I tried his birthday but it didn't work. I don't know Cheryl's birthday so I couldn't try it. I started trying different numbers one after the other and by the time I successfully opened it, it was night already. My bodyguard must have gotten tired of waiting and I doubt if he will still be there.

I removed the ball like object from the safe and took it with me. Thankfully, lights were on throughout the mansion so I was able to see the guards. I succeeded in escaping from the mansion and I met the guard where I left him.

"I wasn't expecting to still see you here. What I wanted to do took longer than expected" I said

"It's okay boss. You said we would go somewhere at night" he reminded

"Yes, let's go" I said and led the way

We couldn't go to my mansion to take my car so we boarded a cab instead. Few minutes later, we arrived at our destination and trekked a bit more until we arrived at the cartel.

"You don't need to do much, just listen to what is being said and only talk when you're asked to" I instructed

We went inside and the men stared at me somehow. I know it's because Brianna said I was no longer the underboss. Anyway, that doesn't matter to me.

"Where is Miss Brianna? Why is she absent today?" they asked

"I feel so sad and heartbroken because I have to pass this news across to you guys. The boss passed away" i said with a said look on my face

"Can we stand for him for a minute? It's the only way we can pay our respects to him now" I added

Everyone of them stood up and vowed their head. Some were angry but most of them were sad. They really liked Ryan as the boss. Unfortunately that had changed

"Before he passed away, he gave this to me" I said and raided the ball like object for them to see

The ball like object is a symbol of authority in our cartel and only the boss can have it so as to command respect.

"Greetings to the new mafia boss" thru greeted and went on their knees while I heard a smirk on my face

Even if Ryan wakes up tomorrow, he won't be able to do anything to me because they've acknowledged me as their leader already.
