Chapter 187
Before Luna could leave, Mia had already pushed past the servants blocking her way and rushed in.
Ignoring the angry glares from Luna and the others, she ran up to Matthew, grabbed his hand, and said tearfully, "Matthew, why didn't you tell me about something as huge as Grandpa's death?"
Matthew was still immersed in grief, exhausted both physically and mentally, and didn't want to talk much with Mia.
"There's been too much going on. I didn't have time to tell you!"
"Why should he tell you?" Luna snapped loudly, "My grandpa hated you the most when he was alive. If it weren't for you interfering, Grandpa could have held Matthew and Amelia's child long ago!"
"If he had told you and you came to pay respects, Grandpa would probably jump out of his coffin and slap you twice!"
Although Mia didn't believe in ghosts and spirits, Luna's words made her face turn pale. Her body stiffened slightly, and she couldn't help but glance at Nolan's photo.
"Luna, that's going too far! Grandpa just misunderstood me."
"Don't call him Grandpa," Luna gave Mia no face, "Who's your grandpa? Stop claiming relatives here!"
Mia held back her anger and looked at Matthew with grievance.
"Matthew, can I at least pay my respects to Grandpa?"
Luna wanted to refuse, but Matthew gave her a stern look.
"Everyone who comes is a guest! Grandpa just passed away. I don't want any arguments in front of his memorial!"
Only then did Luna stop talking. She deliberately walked over to Elise's side and took her hand.
Elise didn't know why Luna was suddenly being so close to her, but she smiled in response.
Mia saw this but pretended not to care, and bowed before Nolan's memorial.
"Grandpa, I hope you enter heaven soon!"
Then Mia walked up to Matthew.
"Matthew, when are you coming back to the villa?"
Matthew said coldly, "I'm not going back!"
"Not going back?" Mia's expression immediately stiffened, "What do you mean?"
Matthew looked around the Moore Manor with emotion.
"Grandpa's gone. The Moore Manor needs someone to stay. I'll be living here from now on."
Luna said, "Matthew, I'm moving back to the Moore Manor too!"
Mia immediately said considerately, "Then I'll move here too!"
Luna sneered.
"Who are you? What right do you have to move into the Moore Manor?"
Mia's face flushed as she glanced at the expressionless Matthew.
"I'm here to take care of Matthew!"
Luna snorted again.
"Matthew has Amelia to take care of him. The Moore family has no room for a woman with no status like you. We can't damage the family's reputation!"
Anger burned in Mia's heart, but she still tried hard to control her emotions and forced out a smile.
"When is Amelia coming back? If she doesn't come back for a year, should Matthew go without care for a year? If she doesn't come back for three years, should Matthew go without care for three years?"
Luna squeezed Elise's hand tighter and looked at Mia proudly with her chin raised.
"Amelia will come back!"
Mia quickly glanced at Elise and said sarcastically, "You're not really treating Ms. Sinclair as Amelia, are you? Luna, everything requires mutual consent! You think Ms. Sinclair is Amelia, but have you asked if Ms. Sinclair is willing? As far as I know, Ms. Sinclair is already engaged!"
At these words, Zane immediately looked at Elise nervously and asked in disbelief, "Ms. Sinclair, you're engaged?"
Not being able to call his own daughter by name felt especially awkward to Zane.
"Is it true?" Luna stared at Elise.
Elise nodded, unconsciously glancing at Matthew, and answered softly, "Yes!"
"How can this be?" Zane sat down on the sofa.
If Elise was engaged to another man, what did that make her relationship with Matthew?
Luna bit her lip and glared at Mia.
"This is all because of you! If it weren't for you, Amelia wouldn't have disappeared, she wouldn't have..."
"Enough!" Matthew signaled Luna to stop, "I'm very tired today. Can you all say less?"
Luna huffed and walked up to Mia to warn her, "If you dare set foot in the Moore Manor, I'll kill you, believe it or not? I only have one sister-in-law, and that's Amelia!"
With that, Luna walked out of the living room.
Mia's face turned pale with anger, but she forced tenderness into her eyes.
"Matthew, I don't have any other intention in moving here. I simply want to take care of you. Is that wrong?"
Matthew responded coldly, "No need. I can take care of myself!"
Before he finished speaking, Matthew turned and went back to his room.
Zane stood up, wanting to say something to Elise, but the words stuck in his throat. He sighed and slowly left.
Mia glared at Elise with hatred and mocked in a low voice, "Ms. Sinclair, your fiancé is Zander. You're interfering in my relationship with Matthew. How can you face Zander?"
But Elise countered, "When you interfered in Amelia and Mr. Moore's relationship, did you have any shame?"
Mia's chest heaved violently, her face ugly.
"Matthew loved me first. It was Amelia who ruined our relationship!"
"Really?" Elise laughed mockingly, "As far as I know, it was Nolan who arranged their marriage. Mr. Moore properly married Amelia. You have no status at all. To put it bluntly, you're just a kept mistress!"
"You're talking nonsense." Mia raised her hand.
But Elise didn't dodge. Instead, she smiled and said, "Go ahead and hit me! Let Mr. Moore see what kind of person you really are!"
"Don't get cocky!" Mia still pulled back her hand, glared at Elise fiercely, and left.
Ryder came in, looked at Elise for a while, and sighed.
"Ryder," Elise asked softly, "do you all think I'm Amelia?"
Ryder's lips moved for a long time, but he just sighed and asked her instead, "Can't you remember anything from three years ago?"
Elise shook her head sadly, "I can't remember!"
Ryder shook his head desolately, said nothing more, and turned to leave.
Elise felt lost and murmured to herself, "Why do they all think I'm Amelia?"
As night fell, Elise went to her room to pack her things. She accidentally saw the nightgown that Amelia had worn, which Matthew had brought from the villa.
She took the nightgown and came to Matthew's door, knocking on it.
"Who is it?" Matthew's hoarse voice came from inside.
"Mr. Moore, it's Elise. I'm heading back now. Take care of yourself!" As Elise said this, her heart felt inexplicably heavy.
Matthew took two steps and came to the door, but didn't open it.
"Okay, thank you for cooperating these past few days! I'll treat you to dinner another day!"
"Dinner isn't necessary," Elise looked at the nightgown in her hand, "I'd like to take something with me."
"What is it?" Matthew asked.
"It's that nightgown of Ms. Martinez's that you gave me to wear," Elise's face reddened, "As a keepsake!"
Her real purpose was to take it back and look at it every day, to see if it might help her remember something and prove that she really was Amelia!
Matthew readily agreed, because the nightgown had been hers to begin with.
"Sure!"
"Then I'm leaving. Goodbye!"
"Goodbye!"
Only after the sounds in the hallway disappeared did Matthew open the door. A wave of sadness made his throat tighten.
Without Nolan and without Amelia, the Moore Manor felt so empty, as if it had suddenly fallen into a void.
