Chapter 186
Matthew stepped forward and grabbed Elise's other arm, staring hard at Zander.
"Let her go!"
Though his voice was quiet, it was full of pressure.
Zander's heart skipped a beat, and he raised his voice to cover his inner panic.
"Matthew, is it? What gives you the right to tell me to let her go? Do you know what my relationship with her is?"
"I don't want to know what your relationship with her is!" Matthew said coldly, forcefully suppressing his anger, "I said, let her go!"
Elise pleaded with Zander, "Zander, let me explain first!"
But Zander completely ignored Elise, glaring at Matthew.
"Matthew, you've been acting all high and mighty in Emerald City, thinking you can do whatever you want? Your Moore family is nothing in the eyes of us Lawsons!"
"Elise is my girlfriend. If you keep getting close to her and trying to seduce her, don't blame me for getting nasty!"
Matthew snorted coldly, his lips curling with contempt and disdain.
"Since when did Elise become your girlfriend? Don't think I don't know!"
Zander froze, his eyes clouded with darkness.
"What do you mean?"
Matthew said, "What I mean, you and your parents know very well! When it comes to a relationship with Elise, you're nothing!"
"Matthew, make yourself clear!" Zander's face was full of anger, but it couldn't hide the panic in his eyes.
Matthew said, "I've already made myself clear enough! I'll settle the Lawson family's accounts with you later!"
Elise pleaded, "Zander, Mr. Moore's grandfather is dying. He mistook me for Mr. Moore's wife Amelia. To avoid leaving the old man with regrets, I'm temporarily pretending to be Amelia. I'll go back in a few days, okay?"
Zander was shocked and instinctively let go of Elise's arm, looking between Matthew and Elise.
"You look like Matthew's wife?"
Matthew took out his wallet from his pocket, pulled out a photo of Amelia from the inner pocket, and forcefully placed it in Zander's hand, his eyes full of warning.
"Take a good look. Does she look like her or not!"
Matthew deliberately emphasized "does she look like her," and Zander naturally understood the implication.
"Ms. Sinclair, let's go!" Matthew took Elise's hand.
"Zander, please understand, okay?" Under Zander's gaze, Elise got into Matthew's car and drove into the residential area.
Zander looked at the photo and was shocked.
"They look so alike!"
Is Elise actually Amelia? Is Amelia actually Elise?
What a coincidence! If he and his father Parker had known this, they would never have agreed to let Elise come to Emerald City to expand the business!
Now that Matthew has confirmed that Elise is Amelia, he'll definitely try to take Elise back. What should they do?
Zander stood there stunned for a long time before getting in his car and leaving. When he got back to the villa, he immediately called Parker.
"Dad, something's happened!"
Parker was at a villa in another city, directing staff to move furniture.
Hearing Zander's words, he snorted coldly, unconcerned.
"What could happen? Is the sky falling?"
Zander suddenly lowered his voice, "Is anyone else around you? I can only tell you about this!"
Seeing Zander being so secretive, he walked over to a tree not far away.
"It's just me now. What is it?"
Zander said, "Talk about a coincidence! We moved our business to Emerald City, and it turned out to be a bad thing!"
Parker said impatiently, "What are you trying to say?"
Zander said, "Matthew's missing wife Amelia is Elise!"
"Matthew?" Parker's eyes suddenly darkened, his expression serious, "The Moore family, the first family of Emerald City?"
"Exactly!" Zander said anxiously, "Now I can see that Matthew has confirmed Elise is Amelia, and he's bound to take Elise back! Dad, what do we do?"
Parker paced back and forth. Years ago, when he was driving to do an inspection, he happened to encounter Amelia who had escaped from human traffickers. When he asked her about it, Amelia couldn't remember anything.
Seeing that Amelia was dignified and beautiful, Parker had selfish thoughts. He took her in as his adopted daughter and told Amelia she had always lived in Zephyria.
Later, Parker arranged an engagement between Zander and Amelia.
Amelia didn't disappoint Parker either. She showed strong business talent and helped the Lawson Group expand its territory.
So Parker really liked Amelia and had already decided she would be the Lawson family's daughter-in-law. He made her vice president of the Lawson Group to help Zander handle company affairs.
It was precisely because he valued Amelia's abilities that Parker sent her to Emerald City to make preparations.
But he never expected that Amelia was actually Matthew's missing wife!
After thinking for a long time, Parker said, "Right now Elise can't remember anything, right? Let's not panic yet! Let's see what Matthew does next, then we'll act accordingly!"
After a pause, Parker sighed.
"If Elise really wants to go back to Matthew, there's nothing we can do!"
"No way!" Zander shouted, "I love Elise. She has to be my wife. I won't let Elise go back to Matthew!"
"Zander, but they are husband and wife after all." Parker tried to persuade him helplessly.
Zander's eyes suddenly lit up, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
"Dad, I have a way to keep Elise!"
"By the way, how's Atticus doing?"
Parker switched to a more relaxed tone, "Atticus is fine, just missing his mom!"
"When are you guys coming over?"
"About three more days!"
"Okay, that's it for now!" Zander hung up the phone.
Parker held his phone, lost in thought.
He had already considered Elise his daughter-in-law. If Elise decided to go back to Matthew, he would be very upset.
"Grandpa!"
Just then, a little boy ran over holding a bunch of wildflowers, his smile bright.
Parker immediately put on a loving smile and went to meet him.
"Atticus, where did you pick these wildflowers? They're beautiful!"
Nolan still died. According to Matthew's agreement, Elise could actually leave the Moore Manor, but when she saw Matthew looking so sad and upset, she felt sympathy and decided to stay for two more days.
After handling the funeral, Matthew was physically and mentally exhausted. When he returned to the living room and sat down, Elise handed him a cup of coffee.
"Mr. Moore, have some coffee to perk up, then go back to your room and rest well."
Matthew looked up at Elise, whose eyes were full of tenderness. His heart warmed, and he took the cup.
"Thank you! You've worked hard these past two days too! I thought you would have left yesterday!"
Elise said, "Seeing you so sad, I really couldn't leave!"
Matthew joked, "Do you feel a sense of warmth in our Moore family?"
A blush appeared on Elise's face, and she didn't confirm or deny it.
At this moment, Luna, Zane and others all came back. Preston had been nowhere to be seen since Nolan died.
Seeing Elise, Zane's heart warmed again, and he said quietly, "Amelia."
But remembering Matthew's instructions, he still didn't say it out loud.
By now, Luna also knew about Elise's situation and didn't know what to say to her.
Just then, there was suddenly the sound of arguing outside the main gate, and a servant ran in to report, "Mr. Moore, Ms. Wilson insists on seeing you!"
When Nolan was alive, Mia was afraid of him and didn't dare come to the Moore Manor. Now that Nolan was dead, she came openly to find Matthew.
"How can this Mia be so shameless!" Luna said angrily, "I'll go out and chase her away!"
