Chapter 185
Michael kept sending Elise messages, asking where she was attending the business dinner.
Elise frowned, not knowing how to reply.
"What's wrong?" Matthew suddenly appeared.
Elise held her phone with both hands and forced a smile.
"Nothing!"
But her worries were already written all over her face.
Matthew said considerately, "Having you stay at my house for a few days is really putting you in a difficult position! Once my grandfather passes away, you can leave!"
"No," Elise shook her head. "Even though I haven't known your grandfather for long, he's already left a deep impression on my heart. No matter what, I have to wait until his funeral is over before I leave!"
Matthew's lips moved slightly, thinking to himself—who says you haven't known Grandpa for long?
"Are you sure there's no problem?"
Elise forced out a smile.
"No problem!"
She thought to herself that she could only lie to Michael, saying she was attending a friend's relative's funeral and couldn't go back for a few days.
Matthew continued, "I still need you to come with me to see someone!"
"Who?" Elise asked.
"To see my wife's father! My grandfather has something that needs to be communicated to him!" Matthew said sadly. "But don't worry, I'll make it clear to him that you're not my wife!"
Elise nodded, "Okay, I'll go with you!"
After eating, Matthew had the driver take him and Elise to the Martinez Villa.
Aria was all dressed up and about to go out dancing when she suddenly saw Elise at the front gate. She broke out in a cold sweat, and the fan she was holding for dancing fell to the ground.
"A ghost!"
She wanted to run, but her legs seemed rooted to the spot and wouldn't obey her.
Matthew snorted coldly and said sternly, "It's broad daylight, what ghost! I think you're just paranoid!"
"Amelia, she... she..." Aria pointed at Elise, her face pale.
Elise greeted her, "Hello, Mrs. Martinez!"
Aria was stunned again, blinking her eyes, completely confused.
"Mrs. Martinez? You're calling me Mrs. Martinez?"
Elise smiled, "Yes, aren't you Amelia's mother?"
Aria was even more confused and looked at Matthew for help, "Mr. Moore, what's going on?"
Matthew ignored her and walked straight inside, with Elise following closely.
Aria slapped herself hard.
"Not dreaming!"
"Isn't that person Amelia? Why is she calling me Mrs. Martinez? And she mentioned Amelia—what does this mean?"
"This is crazy, crazy! Zane!"
Aria didn't go dancing anymore and ran inside.
Hearing Aria's voice, Zane came out from the inner room, muttering, "What are you yelling about, like you've seen a ghost!"
He happened to run into Matthew and Elise. Zane's feet stopped abruptly, and tears welled up in his eyes.
"Amelia? Is that you, Amelia?"
He couldn't believe it and rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things. But after rubbing them and opening them again, the person in front of him was still Amelia!
"Amelia, it really is you!" Zane was very excited and was about to open his arms to hug Amelia.
Elise didn't know what to say or whether she should dodge.
Matthew stepped in front of Zane.
"You've got the wrong person. She's not Amelia, she's Elise!"
Zane looked puzzled, "Isn't this my Amelia?"
Matthew said seriously, "She just looks exactly the same!"
Zane blinked and looked at Elise again and again, shaking his head in disbelief.
"How can there be someone who looks this similar! Impossible! Even the voice and figure are the same! Impossible!"
Elise bowed to Zane and said sincerely, "Mr. Martinez, I'm really not your daughter Amelia. My name is Elise!"
In an instant, Zane's heart, which had just been filled with joy, plunged back into despair.
"Oh God, you're not Amelia! My Amelia, where are you? Daddy misses you so much!"
Suddenly, everything went dark before Zane's eyes, and his body swayed and fell.
Matthew quickly caught him and helped him to the living room sofa to lie down.
After a while, he slowly came to, looking at Elise, not knowing what to say, just crying.
Matthew said, "I came today to let you know that my grandfather only has a couple of days left. I'll notify you when the time comes! Also, I wanted to discuss this with you so you won't mistake Ms. Sinclair for Amelia!"
Matthew turned to look at Elise.
"Ms. Sinclair, please step outside for a moment. I have something to say to my father!"
"Okay, I'll wait for you outside!" Elise wiped her eyes and left.
Somehow, when Elise saw Zane, he seemed familiar, and when Zane cried, she couldn't help but tear up too.
After Elise left the courtyard, Matthew told Zane, "Father, she's actually Amelia!"
Zane was confused, "Didn't you say she was Elise?"
Matthew's expression was serious, "She's lost her memory and doesn't know about her past! But all the signs point to her being Amelia!"
Zane's dim eyes brightened again, and he gripped Matthew's hand tightly.
"When will she recover her memory?"
Matthew fell into thought. After a long while, he said, "I've already contacted experts in this field, hoping that through medication, she can recover her memory. Until then, you should all treat her as Elise!"
Zane asked with concern, "Why is she called Elise?"
Matthew shook his head sadly.
"I don't know either, what she's been through these three years! I'm investigating. One day, Amelia will come back to us!"
Zane sighed, "My Amelia!"
Leaving the Martinez Villa, Matthew had the driver take them back to the Moore Manor.
On the road, Elise's expression was complicated.
Suddenly, she looked up at Matthew, "Mr. Moore, do I really look that much like your wife?"
Matthew's gentle gaze caressed Elise's eyes, nose, lips, and chin, and he said with emotion, "Yes, so much alike, exactly the same!"
Elise frowned, "Why do I look so much like your wife? Could we be long-lost twin sisters?"
Matthew smiled slightly.
"I'm not sure about that! By the way, can't you remember anything from three years ago?"
Elise shook her head, "My adoptive parents only told me that three years ago I was in Zephyria, got sick, and lost my memory."
Matthew clenched his fists. Why didn't the Parkers tell Elise the truth? What were they trying to do?
The car suddenly stopped at the neighborhood entrance. Michael was standing in front of the car.
Elise frowned, "Oh no!"
Matthew quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
Elise was nervous, "My fiancé is here!"
Matthew immediately cast a shocked and scrutinizing look at Michael.
"He's your fiancé? You're engaged?"
As he spoke, Elise had already gotten out of the car and walked to Michael's side.
"Michael, how did you find this place?" Elise was anxious.
Michael stared hostilely at Matthew in the car.
"Didn't you say you were attending a friend's relative's funeral? Is this what you call a funeral? Elise, what has this Matthew brainwashed you with? You've only been in Emerald City for a few days and you're already getting involved with him?"
Elise's face turned bright red, "Michael, it's not what you think!"
"Not what I think? Then come back with me right now, and we're leaving Emerald City tomorrow!" Michael grabbed Elise's hand and pulled her toward his car.
"Stop!" Matthew jumped out of the car and rushed over quickly. "Let go of Ms. Sinclair!"
