Chapter 184
Elise said, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go in!"
Matthew shyly extended his hand. Elise bit her lip with a hint of bashfulness and placed her hand in Matthew's.
The touch sent an electric sensation through Matthew's entire body, making him feel dazed again.
Entering the study, Elise saw Nolan sitting in his wheelchair, his face pale and his eyes vacant. She couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness.
She feared Nolan wouldn't last more than a few days!
Seeing Elise, Preston quickly said, "Dad, Amelia is here!"
Though he tried his best to control his inner excitement, it still showed through unintentionally.
"Grandpa!" Elise hurried over and grabbed Nolan's withered, ice-cold hand. "I had something come up at home last night, so I couldn't make it. I'm sorry!"
Nolan smiled slightly and waved his hand.
"It's fine, take care of your own things first!"
"I called you here today because I want to formalize the shares I gave you before through a will, so no one can fight you for them later!"
As he spoke, Nolan's gaze swept over Preston.
Preston coughed twice.
Elise said humbly, "Since I'm Matthew's wife, what's Matthew's is mine. Why would Grandpa need to give me a separate portion?"
Nolan insisted, "When you were pregnant, this was meant as a gift for you! Grandpa can't go back on his word!"
Nolan gave Ryder a look, and Ryder had the lawyer announce the main contents of the will.
In the will, Nolan stated that he would transfer twenty percent of his shares in the Moore Group to Matthew, one percent to Amelia, two percent to Luna, and the remaining five percent to Preston.
As for other assets, savings, real estate, etc., they would all be divided into three parts for Matthew, Preston, and Luna.
After the lawyer finished reading, Nolan looked at Preston.
"Preston, do you agree with this distribution?"
Preston's face darkened, his jaw clenched tight.
"Dad, I'm your son! Even if I don't get as many shares as Matthew, it shouldn't be this little! Matthew gets twenty percent, and I only get five percent. Is that fair? Are grandchildren closer than sons?"
Nolan knew Preston wouldn't be satisfied, so he said, "Preston, I know very well what you're capable of! As the company's chairman, Matthew must hold the most shares—twenty percent is the minimum!"
"Your five percent in shares, when converted to cash, is already quite a lot—enough for your whole family to live on for a lifetime!"
Nolan's expression suddenly turned stern, "However, I still need to tell you this: if you use the shares I'm giving you to help outsiders go after Matthew, my spirit in heaven won't bless you!"
"Dad," Preston's face flushed red. He glared resentfully at Matthew and Elise. "You're too biased! I don't accept this! I won't sign!"
Nolan coughed violently, and Matthew, Elise, and Luna rushed over.
"Grandpa, don't get upset!"
"Uncle Preston, don't make Grandpa angry!"
Nolan gasped for breath as he looked at Preston, "You won't sign? Then you'll get nothing at all!"
Ryder went over to persuade Preston, "Mr. Preston Moore, just go along with Mr. Nolan Moore's wishes! Back in the day, didn't Mr. Nolan Moore also start from nothing and build what we have today! If you have the ability, holding five percent of the shares is enough to start a big company!"
Preston thought it over for a moment and finally gave in.
"Fine, I'll sign!"
But he was very unwilling inside! Once Nolan passed away, he would take back what he'd lost!
Nolan, Matthew, Elise, Luna, Preston, and the lawyer all signed together, and the will took legal effect.
Nolan suddenly coughed violently again, couldn't catch his breath, and passed out.
"Grandpa!"
"Doctor, come quickly!"
The doctor and nurses rushed into the study and wheeled Nolan back to his room to reconnect all the tubes.
After an hour of emergency treatment, the attending doctor came out of the room.
Matthew quickly pulled him aside to the living room.
"Doctor, how is Grandpa?"
The doctor's expression was grave. After a moment of silence, he said, "Mr. Matthew Moore, Mr. Nolan Moore doesn't have much time left. You should start preparing for his funeral."
Though Matthew had been mentally prepared, hearing this still brought tears streaming down his face.
Elise's eyes filled with tears.
Luna covered her mouth to keep from crying out loud.
Matthew looked at Elise, "Amelia, these next few days..."
Elise nodded, understanding, "I know, I'll stay here for the next few days!"
Matthew gave Elise a grateful look.
"Ryder, go prepare for Grandpa's funeral. Make a proper list of who should be invited!" Matthew said to Ryder.
Ryder wiped his eyes, his voice choked with emotion, "Alright, I'll arrange it right away!"
At the café, Mia and Michael sat by the window.
Mia had a smug look on her face.
Michael took a sip of coffee and looked sharply at Mia.
"Mrs. Moore, don't you have something to tell me?"
Mia asked back, "Doesn't Mr. Zhang have questions to ask me?"
Michael smiled coldly and tossed the business card Mia had given him into the trash.
"I told you I don't like beating around the bush! You gave me your card—what do you want to say?"
Mia stirred her coffee, raising an eyebrow slightly.
"Hasn't Mr. Zhang noticed that your Ms. Sinclair is different from before?"
Michael gritted his teeth, his eyes showing displeasure.
"Why is Elise so close to your Moore family?"
Michael treated Mia as part of the Moore family, which made Mia's heart bloom with joy.
"Isn't it all because of Matthew!"
Michael suddenly put down his spoon, his gaze sharp.
"Matthew is seducing Elise?"
Mia said, "I don't know who's seducing whom. All I know is they're too close! I want my Matthew, and you want your Ms. Sinclair—our goals are the same!"
Michael tapped his fingers on the table, his eyes deep in thought.
"It seems my father was wrong to move the company's main operations to Emerald City!"
"Exactly!" Mia said. "If you want Ms. Sinclair, you have to take her away. Otherwise, sooner or later she won't be your woman!"
Michael snorted with displeasure, acting nonchalant, "Is it that you can't keep your own husband in check? Or is Matthew just a womanizer?"
Mia felt like her heart had been stabbed, her eyelids twitching.
"It's not that I can't keep my husband in check—it's that your Ms. Sinclair and my husband fell for each other at first sight!"
Michael took a sip of coffee and fell into thought.
"I need to go back and think carefully about what excuse I can use to transfer Elise out of Emerald City!"
Mia stirred the pot, "You'd better think fast, or else if Ms. Sinclair and my husband end up doing something..."
"Shut up!" Michael shouted angrily at Mia. "Elise isn't that kind of casual woman. If you insult Elise again, don't blame me for turning on you!"
Mia was full of resentment. Why did Amelia have men liking her everywhere!
She put down her spoon, picked up her bag, and said coldly, "Whatever! Don't say I didn't warn you!"
After walking a few steps, Mia suddenly stopped and turned to look at Michael.
"Mr. Zhang, is Ms. Sinclair really surnamed Sinclair?"
Displeasure and tension showed in Michael's eyes, but he covered it with anger, shouting, "Ms. Wilson, what do you mean by that?"
Mia already had her answer.
"Nothing special, just asking casually!"
