Chapter 182
Matthew quickly got Mia to the hospital. After various examinations, the doctor bandaged her wound.
"Doctor, is Mia's injury serious?" Matthew asked nervously.
"Not really serious!" the doctor said, "The cut isn't very big, no stitches needed. Just rest at home for a few days and come back regularly to change the dressing!"
Matthew finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Hearing this, Mia, who was sitting not far away, felt very unwilling. A calculating look flashed in her eyes. Suddenly, she clutched her head with a pained expression.
Seeing this, Matthew hurried over.
"Mia, what's wrong?"
Mia said, "My head hurts!"
Matthew frowned, "The doctor said you're fine!"
Mia moaned, "It hurts so much, feels like my whole head is splitting open!"
Matthew had no choice but to call the doctor over again.
"Doctor, Mia says her head hurts. What's going on?"
"That's strange!" The doctor carefully examined the CT scan again. "The images show minimal damage to the head!"
Matthew asked anxiously, "Then why does she have a headache?"
The doctor thought for a moment.
"It's very likely a mild concussion. She should stay in the hospital for a day or two for observation."
The doctor then wrote out a hospital admission form for Mia.
Matthew got Mia settled and turned to leave.
"Matthew!" Mia grabbed Matthew's hand, tears welling up in her eyes, looking pitiful. "Are you going to leave me alone in the hospital?"
Matthew said gently, "Why did you do such a foolish thing?"
Tears rolled down Mia's cheeks.
"You don't want me anymore, what's the point of living? You shouldn't have saved me, just let me die! If I'm dead, I won't have to face despair and loneliness every day!"
Matthew looked at Mia helplessly.
"What do you want me to do? I told you, I only have Amelia in my heart now."
He hesitated, not wanting to upset Mia further.
Mia said, "I'm not asking for any official status! Just give me a place to live, and you can visit me occasionally. That would make me happy!"
Matthew shook his head.
"What would people say about me? It would be hard for me, and hard for you too!"
Mia gripped Matthew's hand tighter, "As long as I can see you, I won't feel tired!"
"No! Amelia won't agree to it!" When Matthew mentioned Amelia, his eyes were full of tenderness. This was like pouring salt on Mia's wound, filling her heart with resentment and bitterness.
The hospital room fell silent. Matthew freed his hand from Mia's grip.
"You can move around freely now. If it really doesn't work out, I'll have Kaia come take care of you. I need to get back to the Moore Manor. Grandpa doesn't have much time left, and I need to be with him every day!"
With that, Matthew left the room.
Mia didn't ask Matthew to stay. Pushing him too hard would only backfire. So she needed to think carefully about what to do!
After returning to the Moore Manor, Matthew called Kaia and asked her to go to the hospital to take care of Mia.
Just then, he heard Nolan's voice from the room. Matthew quickly went in.
"Grandpa!" Matthew walked to the bedside.
Nolan pointed at the wheelchair.
"I want to go out for a walk!"
"Good! Fresh air will do you good!"
Matthew immediately asked the servants to help lift Nolan into the wheelchair.
Matthew pushed Nolan out to the courtyard. Nolan looked around as if searching for something. When he didn't find it, his eyes showed disappointment.
"Where's Amelia? I feel like she's been really busy lately. She disappears right after breakfast!"
Matthew could only make excuses, "Isn't Amelia the dean of the nursing school? The nursing school has been pretty busy lately, so she's been occupied."
Nolan nodded.
"It's good that she's busy!"
Despite saying this, disappointment was clear on his face.
Matthew couldn't bear it and said, "How about I ask Amelia to put aside what she's working on and spend afternoons with you?"
Nolan asked hopefully, "Can she do that?"
Matthew said, "I'll ask her!"
"Don't make things difficult for her!" Nolan said with concern.
Matthew nodded.
"By the way, has Preston mentioned anything to you about the shares?" Nolan remembered something.
Preston coveted Nolan's shares, and Nolan was aware of it.
Although Nolan had already stated at the board meeting that Matthew would have full proxy over his shares, once Nolan passed away, Preston would definitely fight Matthew for the inheritance as his son.
And Preston was the legal heir, which gave him an advantage legally.
So Nolan had to finalize his will.
"He asked me once before, then stopped asking!" Matthew answered.
Nolan thought for a moment.
"Tomorrow afternoon, call Preston over. I'm going to make my will to prevent you two from turning against each other over the inheritance later! That's the last thing I want to see!"
"No matter how disappointing he is, he's still my son. I should leave him some inheritance!"
Matthew didn't object and nodded.
"Also," Nolan added, "call Amelia over too! I gave her some shares before, and that needs to be confirmed in the will too!"
An hour later, Matthew pushed Nolan back to his room.
He went to the living room and called Preston. When Preston heard about making the will, he was thrilled and readily agreed to come.
Then Matthew awkwardly called Elise.
"Ms. Sinclair!" Matthew greeted quietly.
Elise was sitting in her office at the moment.
"Mr. Moore, what's up?" Elise's face flushed when she thought about the intimate moment she shared with Matthew that night.
"Yes, are you free tomorrow afternoon? My grandfather is making his will, and he hopes you can be there."
"That doesn't seem right, does it? After all, I'm not your wife!"
Matthew thought to himself, you've just lost your memory, you ARE Amelia!
"It's fine. When you sign, just use my wife's name!"
Elise hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
"Okay!"
"By the way," Matthew added, "Luna came back and told me that Mia gave you trouble, right? I'm really sorry for causing you so much trouble!"
But Elise laughed happily.
"You weren't there at the time. Luna and I mocked her so badly, she couldn't even speak!"
Matthew didn't expect Elise to not only not be angry, but actually be so happy!
"Why are you so happy?"
Elise asked back, "Why shouldn't I be happy? A bad person got what she deserved. Shouldn't I be glad?"
Matthew fell silent, not responding.
Elise seemed to pick up on something.
"What, do you feel sorry for Mia? Mr. Moore, I want to ask you something. Do you like Ms. Wilson, or do you like your wife?"
Matthew answered without hesitation, "My wife, of course!"
Elise pressed on, "If you like your wife, why do you keep getting tangled up with Mia? How heartbroken your wife must be!"
Matthew's heart ached, and pain showed in his eyes.
"It's all my fault!"
Hearing the sadness in his voice, Elise didn't continue.
"Let's leave it at that! I have something tonight so I probably can't come over. Let your grandfather know. I'll come tomorrow afternoon!"
"Okay, Ms. Sinclair, thank you for cooperating!"
Matthew hung up the phone, Elise's words echoing in his mind for a long time.
God had sent Amelia back to him, and he wouldn't let her down again!
Just after hanging up, Elise received a WhatsApp message.
Zander: [I'll arrive in Emerald City at five this afternoon. Baby, did you miss me?]
Elise hesitated, then replied: [Didn't you say you'd come next week? Why are you arriving today?]
Zander: [Because I missed you!]
Elise: [What about Atticus now that you're here?]
Zander: [Aren't Mom and Dad watching him?]
