Chapter 104: Funeral
Chapter 104: Funeral
The door to the cell opened and a male and female were pushed into the room. Amber looked up, “daddy? Mama!” she yelped and ran into their open arms. “What are you doing here?”
“The Elder Guards showed up at the pack with an order for our arrest.” Gus told her. “Alpha tired to stop it but when they told him why,” Gus sighed, “he let them take us and banished us from the pack.”
“What?!” Amber panicked. “He can’t do that.”
“Sure, he can,” Aden said, walking in. “You helped my father escape.” He shrugged.
“I told you that you shouldn’t’ve helped David. We should’ve never helped them. We should’ve just set Amber and Mason to one of the packs that needed a new Alpha.” Helga sobbed as she hugged her daughter tight.
“He just couldn’t let HER go. If he’d just let her go, we couldn’t’ve left and started our life together.” Amber sobbed.
“Gus, there must be something you can do,” Helga said. “Maybe speak with the King and Queen. It was the counsel that issued the warrant. Maybe they can...”
“They won’t do a damn thing!” Mary snapped. “She’s going to have Byron put to death, which I don’t care one way or the other. He’s the one who killed my baby.” She lightly sobbed.
“What?! I thought he wanted Mason to be King?” Helga gasped.
“HE’s the one who killed Mason.” Amber sobbed. “He didn’t believe that Mason could beat his brother. So, he killed him.” She wailed.
“That’s not why I killed him.” Byron stated. “Well, not the only reason.” He sighed.
“Then, why?” Amber continued to sob.
“I didn’t want to kill my son, but all my mistakes led to where we are.” He said, “but in all fairness, this is not all my fault.” He looked at Mary.
“Why are you looking at me?” she scoffed. “I’m not the...”
“Yes, you are in part responsible for the situation we are in.” He stated.
She huffed in disbelief, “none of this is my fault.”
“You’re never going to take any responsibility for anything will you?” He shook his head.
“What did I do?”
“You favored Mason, you barely acknowledged our other pups. Instead of supporting Zoltan when Katie was killed, you encouraged him to go to the city to run the pack business and to leave Mason in charge while he mourned and was ready to come home. When you saw that the business was bringing more money than ever, you convinced him to stay and to let Mason run the pack.” He started to explain, “Basically, throwing Zoltan to the side. You knew that Mason would believe anything you’d tell him. He wanted to please you, so he’d do whatever you told him.” He sighed.
“So, there you go, saying that this is all my fault?” she asked in disbelief.
“All of you, shut the fuck up!” Zoltan snapped, walking into the room. “I don’t care who did what to who and who said what!” He boomed. Safyer held Zoltan’s hand. “If you want to say your goodbye’s to then I suggest that you come with us. His funeral will be starting in thirty-minutes.” He said, turning and walked away from his… from them.
“What kind of funeral did you arrange for him?” Mary glared at Zoltan. “You’re probably just going to throw him in the ground.” She huffed. “You were always jealous of him.”
“Jealous? What did I have to be jealous of?” Zoltan questioned. “I had nothing to be jealous of.”
“Mary shut up and let’s go say our final goodbye to Mason.” Byron snapped at her.
“Fine!” Mary snorted, she took Amber’s hand and followed Zoltan and Safyer. Tarby, Austin and Rollins followed. Violet, Kat and Iza were following in the shadows.
Lacy, Jordon and Kristi walked in front, holding hands. Zoltan, Safyer and Klare walked behind them. Aden walked beside Gus and Helga. Aden was allowed out so that he could attend Mason’s funeral and to face his punishment. Vega, Celeste and Ollie were behind them. Pack members were also walking in support of the wolf who’ll be sent back to the Moon. They could be heard saying prayers for Mason and Jake, asking the Goddess to welcome them home and to forgive them for their sins.
They arrived at the funeral site where Mason’s body was set on the pyre. Mary and Amber cried out. They threw themselves on the ground crying out his name. Zoltan and Safyer looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Elder Jacsyn was the one who would preside over the burial services.
“Family and pack, we are gathered here to say goodbye and to help guide our brother, Mason Jake BlueStone.”
“ALPHA Mason Jake BlueStone!” Mary snapped.
“My apologies, but the Goddess does not care about titles.” The Elder stated, “this is the way we conduct all our funerals.”
Mary was getting ready to protest, “not another word, Mary.” Zoltan said, “I didn’t even have to allow you to be here.” He glared at her. “You will be respectful of the Elite Moon traditions, or you can go back to the cells. It’s your choice.” He told her.
“I want to stay, please,” Amber sobbed. “I’ll behave. I promise.” She said, standing tall.
“Mary, what about you?” Safyer asked, narrowing her eyes at the woman.
“Fine, yes. I will be silent.” She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
“You may continue, grandfather.” Safyer motioned.
“We call upon the Moon Goddess, Selene and the other Gods, to welcome home your son, Mason Jake BlueStone. We ask that you absolve him of all his sins and wrong doings. Bless and guide those he leaves behind.” Elder Jacsyn said. “King Zoltan, would you please light the pyre?”
Zoltan nodded, he grabbed the fire pool and turned to his two younger siblings. They stood next him, one on each side. “Mason, little brother,” Zoltan started, “I know you think that I didn’t or don’t love you. I do love you very much. Always have. I know Mary filled your head with lies but here and now, I want you and everybody to know that I love you and I have always been proud of you.” He said.
Mary was all riled up and was ready to defend herself, but Safyer pointed her finger at her and snapped. That one motion snapped Mary’s mouth shut. Mary’s eyes went wide with what happened.
“We all loved you, Mason.” Lacy said. “You and me weren’t that close but I still loved you. You were my big brother. I going to miss you and the things we could’ve done together.” She swallowed the sob sitting in her throat.
Jordon sighed, “I love you, Mason. I always will, you taught me about fun things, mud fights and pranking Lacy.” He snickered, peeking over at his little sister, who glared at him. “You’re my brother, I will always love you and I will miss our time together. I wish things could’ve been different.” He sniffled.
“May the Goddess take you into her garden and heal your soul.” Zoltan, Jordon and Lacy said in unison and with the three of them holding the fire poll, lite the pyre.
Safyer stepped forward, picked up some dirt and threw it on the pyre, “I was ready to love you.” She whispered.
