Chapter 93 Bathe in your Blood
ADRIANA
I’d almost forgotten about Leo’s birthday. Betty was the one who had come to remind me that his birthday was the next day and I quickly started putting things together.
Since I needed to get him out of the room and I couldn’t find Elijah around for the life of me, I ended up sending him to Hazel’s room.
I didn’t know where Elijah had gone to and when I asked Hazel about it, she just said that he had business to take care of. When I asked when he would be back, there was no reply. I hadn’t laid my eyes on him since that day out at the garden when he said he wanted to speak to me.
I’d gone out to look for him later that evening so we could finally talk but I didn’t find him because they’d told me that he stepped out.
So I sent Leo to Hazel’s room. He asked why he was going there and I told him that there was a big bug in his room.
Surely enough that seemed to work but he said Hazel had to stay with him. So that night, Hazel couldn’t help me with the decorations but I got a maid to do so with me.
For the life of me, I couldn’t find Betty after she dropped the cake and I kept looking toward the door every time it opened to see if she was the one.
By the time we were done, she still had not come so I figured that she was busy doing something.
The room turned out so good and I was so proud of my decorating skills. I mean, I’d never organized a birthday party before but this looked so good.
I was sure that Leo would like this.
Very early the next morning, I knew that he would have woken up to go and look for me in my room and sure enough, I bumped into him and Hazel walking toward us.
She had a blindfold on him and I gave her a thumbs up.
“Where’s Elijah?”
She looked downstairs but there was no one there.
“He won’t be able to join us for now. He has some work but he’ll surely come later.”
Something about the way she said it didn’t sit right with me but I couldn’t say anything because I knew that I had something else to do right now.
We led Leo into the room and counted down from three before removing the fold.
Hazel, Aiden and I were all there but Elijah still hadn’t shown up.
“Happy birthday, Leo!”
The huge smile on his face as he looked around the room made my heart so warm. It made me remember times when my mother would celebrate my birthday in the room because my father said it was too little to celebrate.
“She didn’t win a medal, did she? It’s just a birthday, she’ll get another one every year. Gosh, you do this all the time.”
That was what he’d said one time. So we ended up celebrating it in my room. For Lisa’s, he went all out.
I didn’t mind it though, I had my mother there with me and that was fine.
I led him toward his cake.
“Make a wish and blow out the candle.”
As if on impulse, I looked at the door again to hope that Elijah would walk in.
Where was he and what the hell was going on? If he didn’t want to speak to me, he should just say so. It would be better than him avoiding everything like this.
This was his son’s birthday.
“Where’s the knife?” I heard Hazel say. I handed it to her. “The first piece has to go to the birthday boy.”
She cut a big piece and gave it to him.
“Great, I’m next. I need a bigger piece. I haven’t had breakfast today.”
I laughed but Hazel didn’t.
She looked at Aiden with a disgusted expression.
“If you weren’t a full grown man, I would have asked if you were dropped on your head as a kid. If you’re hungry, go downstairs and eat.”
“I’m not hungry for anything like that. I would like to eat you.”
She turned back to him with a knife.
“I swear, I will stab you in the throat and use your blood to bathe.”
“As long as a part of me touches every part of you, I don’t mind.”
“Aiden!” The things he shamelessly said were appalling. I had to hold Hazel back from attacking him with the knife because I could see that she was ready to.
“There’s a kid here you know? I don’t need this sweet boy growing up to be a pumpkin head like you.”
He rolled his eyes at her.
“Oh please, look at Leo. He’s so busy with his cake that he’s not even listening to us.”
I glanced at Leo and he had put the plate aside and was holding his chest.
He wasn’t moving so I rushed to him.
“Leo, what’s wrong?”
He pointed at his throat and he was red.
“Guys, there’s something wrong with Leo.”
They both rushed to his side.
“Is there something in your throat? Are you choking on anything?”
He shook his head but kept pointing to his throat.
“Adriana, is this a chocolate cake?”
“What? No, I told the maids to not put chocolate in it.”
She raised the plate to my face.
“Why’s there a layer of chocolate cake with chocolate chips in it?”
I collected it from her and looked at it.
What in the world—
Elijah burst into the room and his eyes first went to the cake then to Leo and then to the cake in my hand.
“Elijah, we have to get him to the hospital.”
He pushed past me and carried his son out, leaving me there hating myself.
Once again, I am the reason Leo is in the hospital.
