Chapter 94 Get Out
ELIJAH
I ran all the way to the hospital with Leo in my arms, stopping on the road to make sure that he was still breathing.
His face that was once red was now deathly pale and his lips were turning blue.
As soon as the doctor sighted us rushing in, a stretcher was brought immediately and they took him in.
I was going to go after them but a nurse stopped me firmly.
“Alpha, you need to stay here. When the doctor is done, he’ll let you know.”
How could I stay calm when my son was fighting for his life?
Hazel placed her arm on my shoulder reassuringly.
“Elijah, you need to calm down. He’s going to be okay. The doctors are doing the best they can.”
My son was in there and he could not breathe and they were telling me to be calm. After pacing the corridor for half an hour, I finally sat down and placed my head in my hands.
What if something happened to him?
What if he didn’t make it this time?
When I found out about his allergy was the day that I’d offered him a bar of chocolate and he’d almost died right in front of me.
That day, the doctor told me that if I hadn’t brought him in earlier, he would have been dead in a couple of minutes because he couldn’t breathe.
Now, this has happened again.
“Alpha.” I heard the doctor’s voice and I stood up with one swift motion.
“Doctor, what’s wrong? Is he going to be okay? Nothing is wrong with him right?”
The doctor placed his hand on my shoulder and I tried to search his face for anything that would tell me if something was wrong.
“Your son is alive. He’s going to be fine.”
My knees gave way and I fell back on the chair in relief. He wasn’t dead. My son wasn’t dead.
“But there’s some bad news.”
I got back on my feet immediately.
“What is it? What’s the bad news?”
“There’s a high chance he will never be able to speak again. He wasn’t brought in early and his vocal cords were severely damaged in the process.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“What did you say? My son will never be able to speak again? But he just started speaking. How can you say that? Are you absolutely sure?”
He removed my hands from his shirt gently.
“Yes, Alpha. I’m sure of what I’m saying. My apologies.”
As he walked away, Hazel caught me when I didn’t even know I was falling.
Leo would never be able to speak again. Why him?
Not when he had just started speaking again. That day when he had welcomed me home, I was so happy.
I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard his voice. He had finally spoken after almost six years. I’d spent so much and hoped and prayed that he would finally get better.
The last time I’d heard him speak was the day that his mother had walked out of his life, after he had fallen sick following Liam’s death.
And now, he will never be able to speak again.
“Hazel, what happened? And I want the truth.”
“Elijah—”
“Tell me what happened! Who made the cake?”
I knew today was his birthday and I knew that Adriana wanted to throw him a party but I couldn’t be in the same room with her.
Ever since she had shifted that night and found out that we were mates, I couldn’t face her.
How could I look her in the eye and tell her that I knew about it since the day I met her?
“So you’re saying she gave him the cake?”
“No, Elijah. I’m not saying that. I said she made a maid get the cake but I’m sure she told her about the allergy. She would never do anything to put his life at risk and you know it.”
I gave her a look.
“What are you saying? Did you hear what the doctor just said? Leo will never be able to speak again! You know what I’ve always wanted was for him to finally speak. And when that happens, she goes ahead and ruins everything. He will never speak again!”
I didn’t care what Hazel said, Adriana had caused this. She was the reason Leo had been brought to the hospital two times in less than two months, both times with life threatening damages.
She claimed to love him but she put him in danger every damn time.
He’d been with me for years and he’d never had to come to the hospital except for speech training and monthly check ups.
But she had almost killed my son twice.
I won’t let her get to him the third time.
I’d taken her in because I thought she needed help. I thought I was doing the right thing since she was in trouble. I didn’t care that she was my mate.
My son was the most important person in my life and she wanted to take him away from me but that wouldn’t work.
I knew that I wouldn’t be able to see him right now so I went back home.
“Elijah, where are you going?”
I didn’t answer her and got in the car that she’d brought with her.
“Elijah, I know you’re angry but just think about what you’re doing. Don’t say anything that you’d regret because trust me, you will regret it.”
I didn’t listen to her. It was my house and it was my pack. I would do what I was going to do and no one would say anything about it.
I got down from the car and marched upstairs, ignoring Aiden who was standing at the stairs.
“Elijah, don’t say anything. Think about it before you say it.”
She wasn’t in her room so I went back to Leo’s room. Sure enough, she was still at the scene of the crime.
“Elijah, I’m so sorry—”
“Save it. I don’t want to hear anything you have to say. You have an hour. Pack every damn thing that you have, everything that pertains to you and leave my house and leave my pack. I never want to see you again.”
The decoration in her hand dropped to the floor.
“Elijah, I didn’t mean to—”
“Because of you, he’s in the hospital again! Because of you, my son is in the hospital! Because of you, he will never be able to speak again! All because of you! And I brought you into my house so I’m going to take you out. Get out.”
I stormed out of the room and went back to mine, slamming the door shut.
