Chapter 84 Unfinished Business

Leo was trying his best. He really was and I was so proud of him for making the effort.
Unlike when the doctor came around, he was actually very eager to learn new sounds now. Maybe it was because I’d told him that his father would be excited and happy if he learned when he came back home.
He wasn’t talking yet but at least he was making a genuine effort to try.
We were still practicing when there was a knock on the door that interrupted us.
“Come in.”
A guard came in and stood in the middle of the room awkwardly, looking uncomfortable.
“There’s someone here to see you.” The way he said it sounded off to me, wrong somehow.
“Who is it?”
“He says he has unfinished business with you.”
That must be Luke.
God, I’d really been feeling bad about the way I treated him last time and I’d been wanting to apologize properly. A lot was going on back then and with Elijah in the house, I really didn’t feel comfortable with him around.
“Okay, tell him—”
“Don’t you dare!”
I thought I was losing it so I screamed. Everyone looked at me confused.
“Oh, I’m sorry I thought I saw a spider.”
“Relax. It’s me, Yara. Just tell him that you’re busy and you won’t be able to go.”
I didn’t even move, I just froze in place.
“Why are you acting like you don’t know how to use your words?! Say something, girl!”
I finally snapped out of it.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to come. As you can see, I’m busy.” I pointed toward Leo and the guard looked at the boy and looked back at me.
“So I should tell the person that you’re not coming? You don’t even know who it is.”
Why was he being so persistent about this?
“What’s the person’s name?”
He opened his mouth but didn’t say anything at all.
“Thought as much. So you want me to go and meet someone that might want to attack me? No way. I’m busy, thank you.”
He looked like he wanted to do something but he looked at Leo whose big doe eyes were fixed on him and he just left.
“What the hell was that all about?” I breathed a sigh of relief.
That was so intense.
“That wasn’t a guard. No matter what he says, even if he says Hazel or Elijah are looking for you, do not follow him, Adriana. Stay in this room and don’t go out until I tell you to.”
I was scared. Why was she talking like this?
“What’s going on Yara? What are you telling me?”
Before she could answer, the door swung open again and the guard walked back in with determination.
“The man has refused to leave until he sees you. He says that you must come down.”
Now, this was just suspicious.
I turned to him, this time around, feeling more determined myself.
“And I said I’m not going to see them. Did you even ask their name? I can’t just come down and meet some random stranger.”
“Yes, I asked. His name is Donald.”
He was so dumb. But I mean, what did I expect? Hannah sent him of course, he’d be just as dumb.
“Unlucky for you, I don’t know anyone with that name so please tell whomever it is that’s outside to leave. I’m not coming down. You’re disturbing me.”
His nostrils were flared and I could see that he was clenching his jaw. But I knew he couldn’t do anything. He was still in the house.
I had to be outside for him to be able to do anything. There were people in the house which was why he had not made a move to carry me outside by force.
This time around, he left with no words and I sat back down on the bed.
“Lock the door now.”
I immediately got up and went to lock the door securely.
“Does she really have no shame? Trying to kill me?”
I looked at Leo who knew that there was something wrong.
“It’s okay, everything is fine. He won’t come here again.”
Oh but he did. As I was still standing there he returned and this time around when he noticed that the door was locked, he pounded his fist heavily on the door.
“Open up.”
I pulled Leo closer to me and hugged him to my chest to protect his ears from the loud sound.
“Go away or I’ll report you. Just go away, I’m not coming down.”
How the hell was this guy still allowed in the house? Where was everybody? I was sure that he was knocking very loud and someone should have come out by now?
The knocking stopped and I heard his footsteps walk down the stairs.
“What the hell was that all about?” I asked with my heart still beating loudly in my chest.
“It’s fine. He won’t bother you anymore. He won’t come again.”
I was too shaken to even respond. That man would have carried Leo and me outside and no one would have known because how in the world did he enter the house in the first place?
I didn’t want to scare Leo so I decided to act like everything was fine and we continued our practice even though I was not really into it.
After a while, I went down to get some water and I saw the dumbest mastermind in the kitchen.
Of course, when she saw me, she was shocked because she thought her plan had worked. Giving her a fake smile, I ignored her and got some water.
She walked toward me and I knew she had something in mind so my guards were up and I was able to turn her hand to face herself when she pretended to trip so that the water would pour on me.
Her hair and shirt were wet by the time she was done with her show.
“You aren’t really smart, are you? Maybe today isn’t your lucky day. I mean, your plan failed again, just like the last one. You must feel so sad.”
I let out a small laugh and left her there standing in her wet clothes.
