Chapter 83 Get Back Home

Chapter 83 Get Back Home
ELIJAH

I didn’t bother covering my eyes as I entered this time. I’d learned that the witches weren’t meant to be seen by humans and that anyone who looked them in the eye would die.

But I had seen them that day, all five of them and I had lived for so many years after that. I didn’t speak about it either. There was nothing to say.

Why would I boast about seeing those murderers? As I got back home and met with the news of my father’s death, I was weak in the knees and unable to cry.

I’d just spent a week in the forest, trying to save his life only to come back and see that he’d already died before I got home.

The elders had blamed me, telling me that they didn’t trust me and that I’d let my father die because I wanted to be Alpha.

They wanted to turn the people against me, telling them that I’d been the one to poison my father because I wanted to be Alpha. I had no one on my side and they would have succeeded in their evil plans. If not for that maid.

She suddenly went around the entire pack, confessing that she’d been paid by the elders to give the Alpha the poisoned apple.

I hadn’t even heard about it because I was too busy mourning my dead father whose corpse they’d abandoned in the morgue because he was too decayed to bury.

Hazel had been the one to come and tell me about what was going on. That was when I understood what the women had said about the evil being in my house.

They brought me out of the dungeon and I thought it was all a ploy.

I’d been there when the elders were killed. Some of them had already committed suicide before they were caught. The rest were beheaded in front of me.

That was the day I knew that I couldn’t be an Alpha without my people. They were the ones who made up this position and they were the ones who could bring me down.

Being in front of these women again after almost fifteen years felt like a memory I didn’t want to relive. They hadn’t aged a day since the last time I was there.

“Ah, look who’s now a grown man. I see you still haven’t learned your manners.”

She had a smile on her face but it didn’t seem friendly. Which was not surprising in the least.

“Who is it? Elijah, Alpha Elijah, it’s been a while. You were just a boy the last time you were here.”

Looking at them acting like they didn’t know what they did made me so angry.

“Marily, it seems the boy still holds grudges.” She turned to me. “Do you still hold such heavy grudges in your heart? I thought you’d have let it go by now.”

“Let it go?! You killed my father!”

They knew it was true. They couldn’t even deny it.

“Beverly, it seems the boy has grown into a man. He can now raise his voice at his mothers. Good to see.”

I didn’t come here to have this banter with them. In fact, I didn’t even want to waste more time than was needed with them.

“I came here for something—”

“Elijah, if we hated you or had any bad intentions against you, you wouldn’t be alive. We would have killed you the very day your mother birthed you in that forest.”

My eyes widened.

“What are you talking about?”

“Oh, it seems you were not told. She was one of us. Your mother was our sister but she lost her powers the moment she decided to marry your father because we were sworn to a life of celibacy but she was already pregnant by the time we found out and we couldn’t kill her so she left to be with your father but she gave birth to you in the woods. Why do you think you can always find your way back here?”

“Because I had a map and I’d been here before.”

Beverly shook her head.

“No, it’s because you share blood with us.”

That was something I never knew. My mother never told me and up until the day she disappeared, no one ever told me either.

“Do you know where she is?”

“Is that why you came? You said you had a mission.”

I suddenly remembered what I came here for but I still wanted to know about my mother.

“Yes, I need your help with the Antil Cult.”

Someone groaned but I didn’t see who it was. These women enjoyed living in darkness.

The quiet one was the one who spoke. Her voice was raspy, so I could always identify her.

“Have a seat.” There was something about her that told me that I shouldn’t disobey her. I sat in a chair that I was sure wasn’t there two seconds ago.

“The Antil Cult wants the special wolf, right? And I believe she’s in your care.”

Adriana.

“Yes, she is. She’s in my house.”

“How long are you going to keep hiding the truth from her?”

I was about to tell her that I didn’t understand what she was talking about but it finally clicked.

“She doesn’t have her wolf yet. I mean, her wolf hasn’t manifested and if I bring it up, she might think that I’m trying to take advantage of her.”

She sighed.

“Son, the both of you are already in love so what are you speaking of? You do know that in order for her to fight the Antil Cult, she has to bloom right? Which means that she has to be mated to you already, she has to have shifted already and she must have finished training. Or else, you’re dead meat.”

Mated to me?

“Put away your jealousy and go back home. It’s a fortnight to the full moon. If the Antil Cult gets to her before you do because of your pride, your doom will be your fault. Go.”

“It will take me at least a week to go back home. I won’t make it in time.”

She looked at her sister and it’s like they said something I couldn’t understand.

“Then we’ll help you get back home.”
