Chapter 66 Get to Them
ELIJAH
I pinched the bridge between my eyes and sighed. “You’re a hundred percent certain the wolves are from Donald’s pack?”
Hazel nodded.
“Yes, I know the scent anywhere. Besides, I saw her sister before she shifted.”
Her sister. Lisa.
So she followed her all the way here just to cause trouble for her and kill her.
Hazel was right, Leo was not the target. She was. What exactly did she want from her this time around?
She had left the pack for her so why did she come after her?
“But don’t you think it’s strange that she came here on that day? Why hasn’t she come here since?”
I looked up from the work in front of me.
“What do you mean?” I'd thought of that too but I pushed it off as me being paranoid and overthinking it. I couldn’t be that far off if Hazel had the same thoughts,
“I mean, she knew Adriana was here all along so why did she take so long to come here?”
She asked the question like she wanted an answer but right now, I wasn’t thinking in that direction. I just wanted to deal with the people who injured my son.
“I don’t know, Hazel. I’m not in the mood to play detective.”
She rolled her eyes.
“Maybe it’s because she has someone giving her information on the inside.”
“What?” That was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard.
“Think about it, Elijah. As soon as we leave the pack, it’s attacked and she’s the only target. They didn’t come to raid or invade, they came to kill her. So someone on the inside is working for or with her. Think about it.”
She was making sense, to be honest but I didn’t want to think about the fact that any of my wolves would betray us like that.
“Do you have anyone in mind? Anyone who would want to harm her?”
She snorted.
“Think about the entire pack. Not everyone is happy about the fact that you brought a wolf in here.”
“But enough to want her dead?”
“You’d be surprised at the things people do to the people they hate.”
Right now, we didn’t even have a list of suspects. The guards at the border had been killed so when we got there, there was no one to ask questions.
“Or maybe it’s just coincidence. The guards were killed and that’s how they got in.”
“No, I don’t think so. It’s too weird. Why didn’t they come any other time? Think about it.”
I was thinking about it but right now, I was still overcome with so much anger that I hadn’t even thought about it properly before.
“Get the car, we’re going to pay Donald a visit.”
I stood up from the chair and began walking toward the door.
“Where are you going? To see her?”
I gave her a frown and shook my head.
“To see my son.”
I hadn’t laid eyes on her since she came back and I didn’t want to. As much as I tried not to blame her, I just couldn’t help myself when I saw her.
Actually, I’d seen her but she had been sleeping. When I entered the room and saw her next to him, I wanted to wake her up and tell her to leave but as I approached the bed, I couldn’t bring myself to.
I just let her be and seeing as it was cold, I covered up both of them. She was recovering from hypothermia and she still wasn’t taking care of herself properly.
“I’ll go with you.”
As soon as I climbed the stairs, she was right outside the room and she looked like she was about to pass out.
The way she looked at me, I knew something was wrong. Was she cold again?
I could see the shock in her eyes when she saw me and I walked toward her to ask if anything was wrong but before I could speak, she walked past us and ran into her room.
Hazel gave me a look when I was about to ask if she knew what was wrong.
“What did I do? I didn’t even speak to her.”
“Exactly, you didn’t. How long do you plan on keeping this up? You know you’re hurting her right?”
I didn’t even want to talk about this right now.
I walked away and entered Leo’s room. He was still asleep. So why did she leave?
As I watched him sleep, my mind wasn’t even on him. Why did she have that look on her face?
“The car is ready,” Hazel whispered.
I gave Leo a kiss on the forehead and walked out.
Donald was testing my patience. I didn’t even know if he had any idea what his daughter had done but I didn’t care.
He was going to answer for both of them because he hadn’t been let off the hook yet. He was in even more trouble than his daughter.
“Who are you going to face first?” Aiden asked as soon as he started the car.
“Both of them are going to feel the heat. Nobody is going to be let off the hook. It’s about time they understood what they have done. I’ve been silent for too long and that’s why they feel like they can do anything. What the hell is wrong with that family?”
“Maybe if you had done something like I told you to back when Donald messed up, this wouldn’t be happening. Lisa felt like you wouldn’t do anything even if she does this so that’s why she did it.”
I gave Hazel a look and she shut up. She was right though. I should have dealt with Donald when the iron was still hot and now his daughter has gone and done something worse.
“Speaking of teaching people lessons, what are we going to do about the cult?”
The cult… truthfully, I didn’t want to get to them yet because I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to get rid of them.
I didn’t even know what I was up against, I didn’t know how many they were and how powerful they were so it would be very foolish of me to go ahead and delve into something that might come back to bite me.
But I can use Donald to get to them.
