Chapter 65 Sneaking

Chapter 65 Sneaking
ADRIANA

Just as I’d hoped, he wasn’t in the room when I went there. It’s been a few days since I was released from the hospital but I haven't seen Leo yet. As much as I wanted to run to him immediately I came back, the thought of running into Elijah made me stay put where I was.

My heart was already beating so fast, wondering what on earth I was going to say if I saw him there.

Should I start with how sorry I was or maybe I should start with the fact that I didn’t mean for any of this to happen?

The fact that he had already been on the edge because of how far my father was going to make sure his other packs were wiped out, I knew it was just a matter of time before he started hating me.

I mean, seeing the damage that had been caused by my father and his cult, and the fact that now his son had been injured because my greedy sister had come all the way here to kill me, even a saint would be furious.

So right now, I didn’t even blame him if he treated me differently. Everyone had the right to be mad and this was his time to be angry. I’d brought this danger to his doorstep.

I slowly entered and slid through the door, meeting with Leo’s eyes in an instant. I could see that he wanted to come down from the bed and rush over to me but I stopped him immediately.

“Don’t worry, I’ll come to you. Just stay there and don’t hurt yourself.”

I made my way over to him, the smile on his face matching mine as I stood over him. It felt good to know that at least there was one person left who was happy to see me, who didn’t blame me.

“I missed you, Leo. I missed you so much.”

I pulled him in and hugged him carefully, not wanting to hurt him at all or disturb his wound.

“How are you? Are you in pain?” A lump formed in my throat and I knew I was going to start crying if I didn’t pull it together.

He raised his shirt to show me the place where he was injured, the bandage still white and clean.

“It’s getting healed quickly,” he signed with his small hands, his movements careful.

“That’s good to hear. You’re a very strong boy, Leo and I’m so proud of you.” I couldn’t hold the tears back any longer. “You have to forgive me. I’m so sorry for what happened. I didn’t mean for it to happen. I should have protected you better.”

He pulled me in for a hug and I hated the way I was crying like a baby. I lay down beside him carefully while he told me all about the surgery through sign language, his hands moving animatedly as he described the doctor and the nurses and what he remembered.

Every time he mentioned his father, my heart skipped a beat and it was like Elijah would walk right through the door and shout at me to get out and never come back.

I was really afraid of him doing that so I kept glancing at the door so I could prepare myself for my fate when I saw the door handle turn.

I must have been more tired than I thought because I didn’t even know when I fell asleep. Thankfully, I’d eaten earlier so it wasn’t hunger that woke me up this time around.

It was the sound of the door closing softly. I looked at the alarm clock next to me.

1:23am

I’d actually slept off here but I knew I didn’t cover myself with a blanket before I slept and I knew Leo didn’t put this on us either. Someone had covered us both.

I wonder if Elijah saw me here? I wonder if he had come into the room and seen me lying here with Leo, sleeping beside his son.

I wonder what he thought when he saw me. Maybe it was because I was sleeping and that’s why he didn’t send me out. Or maybe he’d been too tired to care.

God, I was overthinking this too much. I needed to stop.

I just went back to sleep since it was already late. I’d have to make sure I leave very early in the morning so he wouldn’t catch me here and get angry all over again.

That night, I had a dream about running in the forest.

My heart was beating heavily and my legs were barely touching the ground as I ran.

Who was I running from? Or rather what?

I was looking over my shoulder and the fear was very real to me like my life was really in danger, like something terrible was chasing me.

Was it Lisa again? Has she made it into my dreams now?

After a while, I stopped running because my legs couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t even bring myself to move an inch so I just crouched behind the bushes and tried to catch my breath, gasping for air.

What the hell was going on? And where was this place?

It didn’t even look familiar. The trees were different, the air smelled strange.

More importantly, I needed to find a way out of here as soon as possible. I needed help. But how? How would I get it when I was all alone?

“There you are.”

A chill ran down my spine as my eyes widened, not recognizing the voice behind me. It was deep and menacing.

As I turned around to look at the person I knew was after my life, I jerked back.

I woke up with a gasp and a double heart attack because Elijah was standing right above me, staring right at me.

His hands were in his pockets and he was barely moving, just watching me.

“Sorry,” I whispered and immediately jumped off the bed, my heart racing.

I didn’t even wait for him to say anything to me. I knew he didn’t want me to be there so I quickly ran out, not even looking back to see his expression.

I had to stop for a moment in the hallway and catch my breath because of the shock I had just received. My chest started to hurt because of how quickly my heart was beating.

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and I looked up to see Elijah with Hazel walking toward me.

You’ve got to be kidding me. How was he in two places at the same time?

I could have sworn I just saw him in the room standing over me. This was the first time I was seeing him outside the hospital and I didn’t even know how to act or what to say.

They were both staring at me as they walked toward me and I knew they weren’t coming for me. They wanted to see Leo so I gently slipped past them and went to my room, my mind spinning.

What the hell was going on with me? Was I now hallucinating? Was the stress and guilt making me see things that weren’t there?
