Chapter 67 The Respect I Deserve

Chapter 67 The Respect I Deserve
DONALD

How dare they?!

How could they do this to me? After so many years of being with them, I’ve been loyal and faithful to them. Even though I had so many chances of betraying them, I didn’t.

But they felt they could do this to me and get away with it?

I recounted the conversation in my head.

“How far have we gone with tracking down the wolf? I mean, no one is talking about it.”

Everyone turned to look at me and I thought I said something wrong.

“What did I say wrong?”

The grandmaster spoke up.

“Did you attend the last meeting?”

“I didn’t. Was something said? Have we found them?”

Excitement bubbled in my stomach.

I heard someone scoff but I ignored it.

“Well, since you have proven yourself to be disloyal to this brotherhood, we cannot grant you the privilege of taking the powers of the wolf.”

I laughed.

“That has to be a joke, right? Tell me it’s a joke.”

“It’s not a joke, Donald. You weren’t present at the last meeting, you haven’t raised a pack in decades, there’s nothing to show for your position so how can we give you such great power? It’ll be a waste. Someone else would make good use of it.”

I stood up and slammed my hands on the table, startling them.

“What the fuck are you saying?! You can’t do this!”

“Lower your voice! You’re talking to the grandmaster!”

“Oh shut it, you bastard. Don’t let me get mad at you!” I turned back to the grandmaster. “I couldn’t attend the last meeting because there was a threat of rogues attacking my pack. You can’t expect me to just ignore that and come here.”

“You have to choose your priorities, Comrade Donald. You take the brotherhood too lightly and that’s not a good thing. You’ve been warned severally and you’ve decided to take our warnings lightly. This will be your punishment.”

I still thought it was a prank. After everything I’d done just for them. I was still in hot water with Alpha Elijah just because I wanted to get on their good side and they wanted to do this to me.

I’d betrayed several people just for them and now when I need them the most, now when I want to get my reward, they want to deny it of me.

Never!

“You can’t do this to me. I’ve been loyal to you for decades and you want to throw me out just like that?! Do you know what I’ve done for this brotherhood?!”

The grandmaster just sighed.

“List ten achievements of yours since you joined this cult. Just ten. How many packs have you invaded, how many powerful and notable men have you killed and captured? What notable thing have you done that will make you eligible for the next capturing?”

“Yes, I haven’t captured or killed anyone but I’ve given you information that has led to that. Without me, you won’t know a lot of things that have gone on in this kingdom. My information has led to a lot of accomplishments for this cult and I’ve also helped all of you because I thought you were my brothers. No, you’re just a brood of vipers. Selfish vipers.”

They didn’t even pay attention to me. They couldn’t do this to me. I’ve been good to them for years.

“You will get the next one.”

“Are you kidding me? Have you forgotten the wolf is born every century?!”

My father had been passed over just like this and he had never gotten the chance to get the powers of the special wolf. The same thing with my grandfather.

The last time anyone got the wolf in my family was five generations before me. How embarrassing was that?

That was why I swore that I would be the one to get it next. And that was why I was mad that that wife of mine didn’t birth me any sons that will take over my positions.

What was I supposed to do with the two girls she gave birth to? They were weak and they were women. Women weren’t allowed in the cult. They didn’t have the zeal enough to be a member.

That was why I preferred Lisa over that weakling, Adriana. She had a determined mind that I liked, I could see it since she was a kid that she would do anything to get what she wanted.

Most times, I knew Lisa was the cause of the problem but I would support her just so that she wouldn’t get in trouble. I hated weak people.

That was why I was not going to let the brotherhood get ahead of me this time.

“If you do this to me, you will regret it.”

The grandmaster leaned forward in his chair.

“Is that a threat? Is that a threat, Donald?”

That tone. I didn’t like it.

I opened my mouth but didn’t know what to say as everyone’s eyes were looking at me.

No, I had to be brave.

“Yes, that’s not a threat. It is a warning. If you do this to me, you will regret it.”

The grandmaster nodded and laughed.

“Very well then. I see you have grown balls.”

“I won’t let another man take what is mine.”

He laughed.

“That’s fine. I’ll give you a chance to prove yourself.”

“But grandmaster—” someone started to say and he raised his hand to silence the person.

“No, he wants to stand up to me. I’ll let him. Everyone deserves a second chance right?” He turned to address me. “Comrade Donald, let it be known that I’m giving you my non-existent mercy and letting you plead your case. But in return, you must do something.”

“Whatever it is, I’m ready for it. Name it.” I didn't miss a beat. I knew no matter what it was, I’ll do it.

“You have a month to kill Alpha Elijah. Yes, the King of Lycans. You just kill him with your bare hands and bring his head before me.”

“Note, that if you cannot perform this task, it is your head that will be taken.”

The room fell silent. Everyone was staring at me, waiting to see my reaction.

Kill Elijah? The Lycan King? That was impossible. He was the strongest Alpha in the kingdom, protected by the best warriors, surrounded by loyal pack members.

But what choice did I have? If I refused, they’d kill me right here. If I accepted and failed, they’d kill me in a month.

At least with the second option, I had time.

“I accept,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt.

The grandmaster smiled, a cruel twist of his lips.

“Excellent. You have one month from today. Bring me his head, or I’ll have yours.”
