Chapter Eighty Seven

Chapter Eighty Seven
Keira's Pov

“You are not Luna.” Ryder said, his eyes holding every ounce of truth in them.

“I… how…? I don't understand…”

“You said it yourself.” He cut in, “You told me in that dream of the man you love— Nikkie, and since then, I've been monitoring you to see all the things you'd do wrong, all the things that would point you out as Keira. After much thought, I've concluded that you're Keira, not Luna.”

I bit my lip gently, curious only about one thing in all the things he mentioned.

The man I love.

“You said something about me telling you about the man I love. Is there… such a man?” My fingers fidgeted with each other, as my brain worked at full speed, going back and forth, crashing against the walls of my mind.

I remember feeling miserable and screaming during the duel, but who caused it?

Damn. I'd forgotten.

The thought of forgetting someone I didn't want to sting hard, and my eyes burned, oozing tears. Was that the reason for the ache in my chest? The reason I wanted so badly to be alone?

It felt so heavy inside. I couldn't bear the weight of it all. My throat burned harshly, as I swallowed continuously, unable to get rid of the heated feeling all over my face.

“There is such a man. You called him your first love, but when I asked why you loved him, you panicked because you couldn't remember why you loved him.” He said, leaning backwards in his chair.

My lashes lowered to my laps, as I bit my lips harder than ever, as if Ryder's hint would help me remember.

“So what is really happening? Explain it all to me.” Ryder probed, his voice slicing through my thoughts.

Well, just like you said, I'm indeed Keira, not Luna. In my world, I had an accident with water, and Luna also happened to have an accident with water. But the water is definitely not ordinary.

We switched bodies. She went forward in time, and I came backwards in time. Now I'm here, but the universe is trying to regulate things and keep them in order, so my memories of my life are going away slowly, and are being replaced by Luna's memories, so I can completely be Luna.

“The same thing is probably happening to her over there. She'll gain my memories and lose hers. I have tried all I can not to forget the people I love, but right now, the only person from my world that I can remember is my mother. I'm… losing it all.” My voice dropped to a broken whisper, “Soon, the future will be a mere fantasy that once lived in my mind. I… don't wish to forget everything I've grown up knowing. I have to go back.”

“How can you go back?” He asked, sucking every piece of information in without trying to rush or choke me with an inability to understand.

Perhaps, since I told him about it in that dream, it was easier for him to understand.

“Right now, I just have to wait. When the right time comes. It's all complicated for me myself, but you know, things will hopefully get sorted out.”

“I don't understand. Why do you have to wait? When do we get Luna back?” He asked, the gold of his eyes sharp as they glared at me.

“So I went back to the water Luna supposedly fell in—a part of that water, but I heard voices, and I was told to wait. I was told that when the right time came, I would be able to switch back.”

“I don't understand.”

I took his hand, staring deeply into his eyes, “Ryder, you can't understand. I swear it's all messed up. You just can't understand!”

I didn't want to mention the elixir, as I didn't think it was a smart idea to do so.

“But you just have to trust me. I don't want to be here either. I want to remember everyone I've forgotten and go back to my peaceful lifestyle.”

“So we just have to wait?”

“Yes. Zane doesn't need to know yet. Nor Caleb. I just feel they won't be able to take it as easily as you've done. You just have to trust me. Luna will be back.”

“Fine. How much time do you think you will need?” He asked, and I slapped my forehead lightly.

“If I told you I had a time I'd expect to go back, I'd be lying.” My words were raw and honest.

Ryder rose slowly, “We shall discuss again.”

I knew he still had questions. Lots of them, but he chose to leave instead of trying in vain to answer his questions.

I sighed, and laid back on the bed.

~
The moon seeped in through the windows as I sat up.

Everywhere was miserably quiet. Before, the sounds of talking and laughing had pierced the atmosphere, somehow helping my thoughts to flow easily.

But right now, everything is quiet.

Then the door opened slowly, and men came in. I sat back alarmed.

The elders! They had come to murder me.

I rose to my knees, taking a defensive stance, only to see Valerie and Damien come in. Valerie locked the door behind her, and folded her arms, as she watched me.

She looked sulky, like she was going to cry, but she continued glaring at me.

“Change of plan, little lady.” Damien snarled, forcing my shoulders down onto the bed. I swallowed, my heart rate beginning to spike upwards.

“What change of plan?”

“You must accept the concubines for the Alphas.”

“Why? What if I decide to have a baby for them?”

“You can't freaking have a baby for them. You are just one person. We need three people who will take down the Alphas at once.” He whispered, placing a cold hand on my cheek.

“You can't. They're too powerful, and you know that.”

“You refused to find the damned key, so you'll do something useful instead.”

“You think these concubines will manage to kill the Alphas?”

He gave a sinister smile, “Poison will be laced in their vaginas, dear. Once the Alphas come in contact with it, it spreads faster than anything. And all of them will die.”

My jaw fell, my eyes becoming apples, “That's… that's…”

“And if you happen to tell them, then it doesn't matter whatever Luna power you have. All of us here will find you and murder you. Bye bye, Nikkie.”

That name caused something to strike me deep in my chest. That person definitely meant so much to me.

Could I afford to die?
