Chapter One Hundred And One

Chapter One Hundred And One
Luna's Pov

It was a feeling of relief as I fell to the ground, losing control of everything. The shock in Zane's haughty eyes was to die for.
How sorry he would be when he realized his mistake. My eyes closed, and an insane shock ran through my bones. Energy from different cells burst to life, flowing through my veins like burning blood.
I could feel my claws protrude from my fingers, and when my eyes slammed open, it was with a smile.
Then I jumped up, full of energy, and everyone backed away, putting lots of feet between us, fear etched into their faces.
“Welcome back.” Maini said, as I touched my arms, looking at my own body in fascination.
“It is good to be back. Damn, I feel capable.”
I wanted to smash my fist into something, wanted to hurl someone into the distance.
Anything just to release the amount of energy surging through me like a torrent.
Zane bent, staring at Keira.
“That's not me. I'm over here.” I said, shooting him a grin.
He looked confused, and Keira's eyes fluttered open. She winced with the slashes on her chest, but that didn't stop her from scuffling away from Zane hurriedly, looking at him in fear.
Zane's face went red as his brows knitted together.
“Are you playing a joke on me!?” He bellowed, looking from me to Keira, his eyes blazing with fire.
I went to Keira, and held her.
“How would you heal?” I asked her, “I'm sorry. I wasn't so careful. This is what Nikkie has always been saying…”
“Nikkie?” She asked.
Don't tell me you forgot him. He's the only man you love. “
“What the heck is…?”
“I'm going to come back to you later, so keep it!” I snapped at him and everywhere fell into silence.
Keira smiled, “Now I know why you're so fierce. I'm going to survive this, Luna. Remember, Valerie and Damien must not go scot-free.” She said, with a smile, and she began to feel lighter in my arms.
“Bye, and… thanks. For everything.” I said, watching her turn into nothing but air right in my arms. Gasps rang out, and the commoners freaked out, running in opposite directions, screaming as if they'd just watched someone disappear in their eyes.
Finally, Nikkie was going to get the woman he loved the most. Finally, everything was setting back in place.
“Dark magic.” Zane began, his voice shaking. He slashed out a hand, but this time, I was faster. I rose, blocking it, only to come round and give him a slash on his back, then wrap my arm round his neck, dragging him so he'd fall against me, tightly secured in my grip.
“Damn you. Recognize me, handsome bugger. The ones using dark magic are Valerie and Damien. Catch them first.”
“Valerie? Damien? That's impossible.”
“I don't have any time to explain right now, but he took an innocent girl from another world, and swapped her soul with mine. We have to find Valerie and Damien right now.”
“I'll… I'll be on it.” Caleb said, still stunned by the whole thing.
“I'll join you.” Ryder replied, but I held out a hand to stop them.
“Search the Palace’s hidden walls. They'll be somewhere around.” I said, taking out the scarves we'd managed to steal from Valerie's room during the days we were preparing.
“Here. I have Damien's.” Elaine said, running up to me in a beautiful wine gown. She looked healthier, stronger, and happier.
“This is your real body?” I asked, with a smile.
“I couldn't thank Keira. I woke up in my chambers, where my doppelgänger was sleeping. I suppose she's returned to where she belongs now. I took this from Damien's room. They've fled. Valerie's quarters are empty. So is Damien's.”
“Wait. You mean Damien really uses dark magic? I still don't understand, but is that the truth? He did something to you?” Zane's hands grabbed my cheeks, then he began to check my body frantically.
“I'm fine. Now is really not the time for this, Zane. First, we have Valerie and Damien to catch.” I said, handing out the scarves. I believe we can track them faster than anything if we have their scents. They are bound to have fled.
“Guards!” Zane called, and the men waiting on standby all rushed to us.
“Each one of you will go into Valerie's quarters, then Damien's quarters. You will get pieces of their clothes, and sniff them out. We must find them before sundown!” he commanded.
“Yes, Alpha Zane!” They all chorused, and bounded in the same direction.
“Let's go towards the forest. I have a feel they might try to find some escape route there.” I said, running off. Those scoundrels mustn't run. They were mine to apprehend.
We all went straight into the forest, and I was right. Their scents were thick on the trails. They had attempted to run. I went without stopping, running, hoping to catch up with them…
Then finally, I saw them running in the distance.
“I've found them!” I shouted, so the others could hear, and come.
Valerie screamed, and then fell, rolling downwards heavily.
Damien didn't even bother about her. He went his own way, without giving her a last glance.
“Got ya!” I exclaimed as I got down on my knees, placing my hands on her legs. Her head rose, ready to say something, but I landed a loud backhanded whack onto her face.
She screeched, only to look up and find blood running down her face.
I rose to my feet, and picked her up by the collar.
“You useless piece of trash. How dare you?” I whacked her across the face again, sending her backwards.
“Why not? You just have to have everything, don't you?”
“Don't start that useless piece of rubbish on me.” I slapped her hard, “You have no excuse. Tell all your excuses to your damned dead mother! You'd die in my hands today!”
“You're not even feeling remorse…”
Before she could even complete her words, I dragged her hair, and knocked her hard into the tree.
Blood ran down her head, cascading down in flowing amounts, and she fell to the ground like a log of wood.
What just happened?
Did I kill her?
