Marcus POV
It was so typical of Remus to be late. I have spent so much of my time in this horrid realm, waiting for the annoying little twat.
Zachary was pissed off too, as he had not stopped pacing back and forth. He kept pulling his phone out of his pocket, looking at it, cursing, then shoving it back into his pant pocket.
''Why don't you just sit down whilst you wait Zachary? Watching you is becoming a bore'' I flicked my hand, gesturing to his pacing.
The look he shot me was almost amusing. Almost!
''I am not one of your minions Zachary, do not push your foul mood onto me'' I reminded him.
I wasn't one of his lackeys, I would have respect off him. I was the fifth created by the moon Goddess.
Zachary had to remember that he was not the only one who was chosen. I was also a General in the realm war, just like him.
I was successful in my missions to slay the Mage. Just like he was successful in his missions to the Fae,
We were not that dissimilar, but I allowed him the leader role in this realm because, quite honestly I was tired. Tired of fighting, tired of all the spilled souls. Tired of the existence bestowed on me by a megalomaniac Goddess.
But most of all, I was tired of this heinous Hell I was forced to live in. The goddess realm was big enough for us all, and after the realm war, we should have been allowed the land we were promised. We should have been respected for what we were, and not thrown out like yesterday's trash.
I wanted to go home, Zachary was my ticket there. There had always been something more than goddess and soldier where Zachary was concerned. I had always suspected it. And I knew that if there was even a slither of a chance that he could see her again, he would move realms to do it.
All I had to do was ride on the wind that would follow in his wake.
I stood suddenly and walked toward him. He was agitated, yes. But it was more than that.
'Brother' I addressed him, my tone low.
''There is something else troubling you? Tell me what it is, and maybe I can help?' I was hoping my sympathetic tone would appease him.
He looked at me for a few seconds before I saw the gold fire flash in his eyes. I stepped back immediately as I knew what that signalled. The creature was very close to the surface, the creature we have had to keep locked away inside us. None of us liked the creatures that seemed attached to our souls.
If you saw the fire within our eyes, you needed to get away as soon as possible, or be slain where you stood.
I held up my hands, hoping to placate Zachary enough so he could bury the creature within.
''Zachary, I apologise if I have said something wrong. Brother, I only wanted to help. Not interfere''
In my head, I was working out the quickest escape route, just in case he pounced. I was fast, but Zachary was just as fast as I.
I watched as Zachary had some sort of internal battle with himself to gain back control. As soon as I saw his eyes change from the golden fire to his usual light grey, I knew Zachary had won his internal struggle. I would never show him the fear that was running through my veins at the moment, I would never give him the satisfaction of seeing it. He already had a superiority complex.
So I merely smiled slightly, and nodded my head toward him in reverence.
his did the trick. His demeanour changed, and he relaxed the set of his shoulders somewhat.
He looked at me, shook his head and let out a soft laugh. The type of laugh that lets the other person know you fucked up and embarrassed yourself, without having to say the words. I clapped him on the shoulder to show him there were no hard feelings, and went to sit back down and wait for Remus.
thinking of that little twat, I was glad of his tardiness. Had he walked in when the creature was so near the surface, he would be dead now. As the creature would have seen it as a direct challenge to his absolute authority.
"Marcus, I apologise for almost losing my temper. There is a lot going on at the moment, I didn't realise how stressed it had made me'.
I nodded to accept his apology, but went on to say 'I know there are things going on here that Remus and I don't know about. I appreciate your reserve in telling us what it is. I only wanted to remind you that us one of the original 10. And one of the last 3. I have a right to any information that will lead us home."
I deliberately kept my body relaxed, if I showed an ounce of nerves, he would be on my like leeches on a blood bag.
smiling at me now he merely closed his eyes for a second before informing me ''Marcus, you and Remus will know what I am working on when I have perfected it. I'm sorry, but now is not the right time''.
Zachary POV
I was shocked at myself for nearly letting my inner Demon out. I was still worked up and fought very and to control myself when I heard Marcus once again ask what was going on. So when Remus strolled in almost an hour late I had little control over my actions. Especially when he just grinned and said flippantly, ''Sorry guys, I got caught up with something.".
I walked over to him, also smiling. I grabbed him by his collar and threw him across the room. I was beside him within a second, picking him up I slammed him against the wall. Then pulled him onto the floor and kicked him so hard I heard most of his ribs break. It was that sound that snapped me out of my temper. My fists remained clenched at my side as I spoke with barely legible words.
''You will give me your blood now, you too Marcus. Then i want the both of you out of here. I can move the lodge myself'.
Marcus hurried over to Remus and help him up. Remus was hunched over and leaning heavily on Marcus. I remain unmoved. I was sick of having these sycophants under my roof.
Marcus stated firmly, 'Don't be a fool, Zachary. You need both of us, not just our blood, to move this lodge. You're clearly not thinking straight''!
That earns him a slap. And the fucker had the audacity to look shocked. He had been pushing his luck with me since he arrived here. Trying to stick his nose in my business. Neither Marcus nor Remus were close to being as powerful as me. I didn't need them. I already intended to leave the fuckers here when I found the way home. I never had any intention of sharing my discoveries with them.
I had been told something a few hours ago that changed everything. A better way to move the lodge.
I grabbed both Marcus and Remus by their necks and held them. They looked unsure of what was happening, so I told them.
''Brothers'' I said, emulating Marcus ''I will let you in on a few secrets. One, I have many projects underway that will allow me to return home and be victorious over gods that hide away from reality',
''Two, the scientist I employ informed me that I only needed your blood on my hands when I touched the dark alter. And three, the sight of the two of you is making my demon come to the surface. I cannot allow this to happen now, so you both must leave'.
Silence from the two vampires was like a wall pressing me back from them, so I gripped their necks harder. I could feel the cold blood running over my fingers, I let it saturate the palms of my hands.
I waited until I had enough of the cold black liquid on me before letting the two vampires go.
They both fell to their knees, so I lent down and slowly spoke just two words.
''GET OUT''
I felt immense satisfaction watching them run away like frightened little mice.
'I think I made my point', I thought as I made my way down to the underground tunnel beneath the basement of the lodge.
When I saw the dark alter, I had a moment of indecision before I strode forward and plunged my hands into its dark depth, feeling around for the handle. My fingers brushed against it, and a huge spark leapt up my arm, and almost made me let go.
But I held on, I held on and started to turn the handle counter-clockwise until I felt it click into place.
The spark that had travelled up my arm had turned hot and started to burn. It was becoming almost too much for me to bare. I gritted my teeth as the pain intensified. I will not let go. I will not let go, I started chanting to myself. After a short time, I felt the familiar pop that told me the lodge had moved.
Pulling my hands out of the dark alter, I couldn't help the cheer that left me. I had successfully moved the lodge on my own. I had a moment where I felt invincible. It was that feeling that made me realise that no matter how long it took me, I would find this special child sent down. I would find out what pack harboured her, and I would slaughter every last one of the filthy dogs that protected her.
