*Elias POV*
I stared at the creature in front of me, holding out his hand. I didn't know whether I could trust him. This could be a trap of some kind.
'' Explain again what you get out of this deal, Remus. And I will consider it,'' I replied, eyeing him with suspicion. I could see the grin forming on his face, and once again fought the urge to smack him in the nose.
''Elias, old boy. All you need to know is that I have no intention of returning to the goddess realm. If I find someone to help me along the way, well. I will grab the chance''.
I looked back at Remus again, ''What?'' I said. Exasperated.
''You dont want to return? Why? I thought it was the original 10's intention to always go back. Why change your minds?''. I know I was glaring at him, but I couldn't help it. I couldn't believe what he was saying.
''Elias'' He said calmly, ''I have never wanted to return there. I was not the only one who felt this way. Unfortunately, all the others were slain, one way or another. Till there were only the 3 of us left. I am not so stupid to think that open rebellion my time. I knew someone would come along. Someone who was as disenchanted with Zachary's leadership as I am. My patients it seems
I think at one point through his little speech, my chin hit the floor. Could this be what I was looking for?
I thought my brother was the key to my success, but what if it was Remus? The cogs were spinning in my mind, going too fast. I almost had steam coming out of my ears!!
''If I trust you, and you betray me, I will end your reign. I will ensure that every one of your precious harems is slaughtered. Just for good measure'' i added, flippantly.
*Remus POV*
I couldn't help the laugh that exploded from my mouth. This one had some balls speaking to me that way ''You could do with a dose of respect boy'' i said when I managed to only chuckle.
''I have a lot more to lose than you, I am not misguided enough to look a gift horse in the mouth. You can trust me. As I am trusting you'' I allowed my eyes to flash red as I said this last part, and I could see the impact reflected in Elias's face. Satisfied I had made my point, I rose to leave.
I looked at him pointedly, waiting for him. By the low slung shoulders and the way he walked dejectedly to me, I knew this day had not ended the way he wanted.
''How will we do this, do you have a plan Remus?'' He asked me quietly. I smiled to myself at this question. I always had a plan. I was always ready to fight or defend. I knew my brothers underestimated me, they saw me as a weak pampered prick. But I was so much more.
In some ways, I was glad they didn't know everything about me. I had kept up the simpering act for so long it had become second nature to me.
In some ways, I wish Zachary would find the portal back, but I knew that to do so would mean all the remaining 10 would be needed to keep it stable enough for them to walk through.
It wasnt like opening a portal to the other end of this world or to the fae. No, an inter dimensional portal was dangerous.
I would have done something then. It would have been risky but I think I could have sabotaged the hole enough to get Zachary stuck inside a temporal shift. But now I didnt have too. Because now I had Elias. And with Elias, came the Fae.
''I do have a plan, but you may find it a challenge. Especially after your efforts today, I didn't look at him as I said this. I didn't want to show too much of my hand. That would be foolish.
''Just tell me what it is, so we can start as soon as tonight'' said Elias, once again with a snap. My eyes flashed a warning again, and I was happy to see, this time he backed down straight away.
''We can't start it tonight, old boy. We are moving the lodge. And as you know, the three of us originals will be vulnerable once we have completed the move.
I turned sharply to look at Elias, forcing him to stop abruptly.
''That's what you were going to do , isn't it? You would have waited until after the move to attack him'' My eyes narrowed, my suspicion growing again.
''Is that why you tried to poison him? Dont you know that nothing works on him. Over the years, I have tried countless times to poison the bastard. You just can't do it'' I did not shout this, but I wasn't exactly quiet either and got pulled into one of the bushes by Elias. Who was frantically shushing me.
*Elias POV*
This guy was fucking crazy, talking about poison and the like. Right under the noses of the guards.
I almost did a double take as his words sunk in. ''You have attempted to poison Zachary over the years'' I whispered. Almost frantic.
Remus merely nodded with a smirk on his face. I was so shocked I didn't think to stay hidden and walked straight out to the middle of the path. With a whoosh of air flying past me, I was dragged back into the bushes.
I spun around quickly and would have toppled out had Remus not caught me. ''Thanks'' I muttered to him. Knowing full well, he would have heard me.
''Listen, there are things happening that you don't know about, things that could be bad for any plan you are working on'' I said in a rush. I wanted things to be put into motion today. I didnt want to wait around this place anymore. I knew I was disrespectful, but I just didn't care.
''If you are referring to the potential hybrid creatures Zachary is currently working on, then save your breath. I already know and have it in hand'' Remus replied, lazily. I could only look on in stunned disbelief. ''How the fuck do you know about them? They are top secret. Only 3 people know about them''
I was starting to get pissed of now. This guy was playing with me. He must be. He would know about the hybrids without help. And the thought of someone betraying Zachary and myself so easily made my blood boil.
Remus held up his hand to stop my rant. Then simply stated.
''I have had my men placed within Zachary's ranks for years. Must be a few centuries now. I pay well for their allegiance, I know everything that has happened within your brethren. I adjust my plan as I go, so it fits. And I can start my attack with a snap of my fingers''.
He demonstrated the snap, which was so loud the birds in the tree above us took flight, scared by the noise.
I shook my head at Remus and let out a soft laugh. ''No one knows you, do they. That must be lonely for you. Having no one to share your true self. What an existence'' I said with a small amount of pity in my voice. Remus may lead a double life, but it was still a pampered one where he was adored and coddled.
Before we got back, within earshot of the guards, I asked again when this plan was to start. I felt i had the right to know if I would be part of it.
Remus looked at me, assessing me. I could see the battle inside on whether to tell me or not. I'm happy to say he finally gave up and let me know what was to happen first.
He crocked his finger at me, so I lowered my head to listen.
''I'm not sure if you have heard but there has been a special birth'', I could see the gleam in Remus's eyes telling me that this was true.
Zachary had only had a suspicion really, he had never been sure. But Remus seemed to know for sure ''you're sure about this? It seems unlikely that Selene would do something like this!''.
Remus tutted at me, he actually tutted the cheeky fucker ''It is true. A trusted source told me. This child will be formidable. Especially as she is being placed within a werewolf pack''.
This, it seemed was the only thing Remus was unsure of, which in turn left me unsure. When I asked which pack had been given the honour, his reply of ''I'm not 100% sure'' did little for my nerves.
I explained this to him, his response was not what I expected.
''Elias, this babe will need help to survive in this supernatural world we live in, I dont trust the wolves to do it right. They are too emotional''.
Not sure what he was trying to say, I asked him to clarify. what we were going to do.
''My dear boy'' he said, is condescendingly ''After we move the lodge to another hidden location we will start laying false trails for Zachary and Marcus pertaining to the child. It will take them years to work out where she is. By that time, we will have perfected our plan to kill Zachary''.
Remus looked triumphant, like the cat that got the cream.
I looked at him now, puzzled. ''I thought this child had the power to kill him? So why are you planning on us doing it?'
''because, Elias, I want to be the one holding his life in my hands. I want to be the one to stare into his eyes and see their light go out. I want everyone to know that I, Remus, one of ten, killed Zachary!
