'Zachary, Sophia is demanding you meet in a neutral location. She refuses to come to the lodge. What do you want me to do?'
I placed my hands over my face, ''why do I have to do everything myself'' I thought, then stopped myself as it was unfair. When I made Elias my second all those hundreds of years ago, I knew I had made the right choice. Looking at him now, still as youthful as the day he was turned, I remember.
His was a life of poverty. I released him from that and he has been forever grateful since. Once i had turned him he had attempted to do the same with his family. Unfortunately, it didn't work on his parents (that can sometimes happen, if your soul doesn't have the strength, you will simply die). His brother on the other hand had been turned and for the first few hundred years had served me well. Like his elder brother, he was extremely grateful of the gift I had given them.
He had been Elias's second and had worked hard to establish our colony. We had been traveling so much back then, spreading our gift among the worthy. It was only when our paths crossed with some Faye that the problems started to happen.
Tobias had his head turned by one of the Faye, she had bewitched him and he had fallen in love with her. He passed our secrets to the then king of the Faye. I couldn't stand for this, so I was going to give him the long sleep, but Elias begged me to spare him. So I exiled him instead. As I am particularly good at subjugation, I was able to push Tobias into leaving and never return. As my submissive, he had to do as I say. Elias was heartbroken, of course, but there you are.
To this day, I have no idea if Tobias is still alive and with the slut Tabitha. I hated the Faye, but if I were to enter this ''war'' properly, then I would need powerful allies. I knew I would never get the mage's. They had always aligned themselves with Selene. But the Faye? That could go either way, so I must act first.
'tell the bug i will meet her at the usual place. If she doesn't want to know what's happening in this realm, then so be it!'.
'Yes, Zachary, I will call her back and arrange it for sundown this evening', and Elias left again, leaving me with my thoughts.
All at once banging, crashing and smashing could be heard throughout the lodge. I grinned, clearly Charlotte had told Rose she was to leave and fend for herself for a few years. Shaking my head Derisively, I walked along the corridor to the living quarters, ironic I know. Once there, I stood in the ground floor and looked at the four floors that extended above me. Each floor had two sections, joined by a circular space that we used as communal areas. This in turn had a central gap. As I stood on the ground floor, I could look up through the gap to the roof. There were twenty rooms in each section. So forty rooms per floor. At the moment, all the rooms were occupied, so there were more than two hundred of us residing here. My rooms were the largest, of course. They took up an entire section of the fifth floor, with Elias using the other section. Charlotte also had three rooms knocked into one up There. And of course the lazy bitch, Rose also resided up here. Well, she did. I hoped all the raucous was Charlotte kicking the ungrateful child out of the lodge.
While I was on the ground floor, I decided to check out nursery. Where all my new children were held until they could become members of my civilized society. Sometimes this doesn't happen, and they will never return to us. In these cases i send them to Marcus. He was another faction leader and one of the three originals left. He had a knack for breaking these souls and making warriors out of them. Marcus and his band of vampires would make up most of my army when the time came to fighting. We would all fight, of course. But they were particularly focused on the kill.
As I entered the nursery, every creature in there fell silent. This was good. It would take less subjugation to get these up to my standard. I approached one of my trainers to ask about the progress being made, but was interrupted by an aggressive creature running towards me. I held out my arm and grabbed the thing by the throat. This did stop him in his tracks, and I could see three trainers running down the corridor after him. When they saw who had the escaped creature, they stopped.
'Zachary' said one of the trainers, I forget his name,'what an honour to have you visit us. We so rarely see you down here'. goddess how I hated the simpering fools strung around me. I had no time to talk to this one, I needed to talk to his superior.
'Where's Rom, I need to speak with him right now' I didn't need to work at all on this pathetic creature, as he was already too submissive. His simpering was starting to get on my nerves.
'Zachary, sir, Romulus is in the special cases block of rooms, shall I get him for you?'. I dropped the creature I was still holding, I looked at him up and down and gave the order 'kill him, he is not worthy', and I walked away.
I walked to the rooms i had been told Rom was in. I found him in a white room with a creature shackled to the wall with heavy looking metal chains around his wrists and ankles. He looked insane. I raised questioning eyes toward the trainer and received a grin in return. Smiling, I went forward and shook Rom's hand. 'It's been a long time brother' he said as he grasped my hand back. Nodding, I agreed, it had been a long time. 'It must be more than ten years since I saw you last, brother' again. I nodded and agreed with him. As immortal creatures time seems pointless to us. Ten years in the human realm would only feel like a few months to us. The limitless construct of time was a luxury we reveled in.
'Why is this one chained to the wall, Romulus? If he isn't worthy, you know what to do, do you not?'
This wasn't what I wanted to talk about, but having seen this poor creature, it was a good place to start.
'Well' I said louder. Rom didn't speak straight away, he simply looked at the thing chained up 'this on is a tricky case. I can't get rid of him, as I believe he would be a great asset to us. I just need to break him. He's stubborn and doesn't easily submit. But I believe I am making progress with him. He is only like this now because it is getting darker outside. He was like this last night too. So we shackled him earlier today so he couldn't kill anyone. As you can see, he is particularly violent'.
I turned my attention from Rom to the creature, there was something different. I couldnt put my finger on what and it was starting to piss me off. I got closer to it, not in the least bit afraid. I started the creature down until he had the sense to look away. I was now standing directly in front of him. I knew I could decapitate him if I needed to. It was when I lifted his head up to look at me again that I realise why this was different. I jumped back and hissed at the same time. I seemed to have fire in my veins. I was so shocked, and I wanted to know why this new fucking creature smelt like that.
I turned accusing eyes toward Romulus and demanded an explanation. why would he betray my trust like this. I didn't understand and was deeply hurt that he would risk our way of life.
'speak' I yelled at him. Rom's eyes had turned the familiar black at the attack but didnt act on it. He knew better than to challenge me. I could see him visibly trying to control his natural instincts. I waited until he had himself under control. Then he told me what had happened.
'Zachary, this is not my doing. I have worked down here for century's. Have you no faith in me? I would never do something like this. To be honest, I don't know how this is even possible'.
I could see he was telling the truth, so I asked who had done this, half expecting to hear the name that would fall from his lips.
'It was Rose, sir. But as we understand it, she found him. He was wounded and she was hungry, so she bit into him. I don't think she expected the end result any more than we did. But I know I can train him if given the chance'. I was surprised to hear the pleading in his voice as he asked me to spare this creature's life. I thought for a moment. How could I let this slide? This was the one rule I had. My kind never do this, so for that little bitch to have broken my rule so blatantly and dropped it off at the nursery was the final straw. I took out my cell phone and dialed Elias. It went to voice mail, so I tried again, this time getting him. He sounded agitated. 'What's wrong with you, what has happened' I shouted down the phone. I didn't expect to hear what I did. This was not happening. First, I find out that Selene is sending a child to thwart my plans. Now I am told that Sophia is in my lodge (she just turned up) and I also had to deal with this monstrous thing. Thinking quickly, I grabbed Rom's arm and shook him a little to reiterate the importance of keeping this to ourselves for the moment.
The Faye were here, and if the fucking bug found out what I had in my nursery, she would be besides herself trying to claim it as hers. No. I had to keep this one close to my chest. No one could know we had a hybrid in the building. Determined for this up coming meeting to go my way, Sophia could not know it was possible for a vampire to sire someone other than a human.
Nobody could know that the hybrid in the nursery was half vampire, half werewolf. Nobody
