'I'm bored'.
Those two words clanged in my head every time she asked. They never differed. They just repeated like they were on a recorded loop.
I tried to have patience with her, Zachary sired her, after all
Technically, Rose was over one hundred years old. But she had tasted our life force when she was
sixteen, and therefore she will remain sixteen for eternity or until she makes the decision to take the long sleep.
I had not sired her, but an old lover had, and for a while we were a sort of family. It had been nice for the first few decades. Then the demands started. Charlotte took it upon herself to call herself my partner and therefore my equal. That had been her mistake. I do not share power with anyone, least of all a cheap creature like her. She always offered herself up to the riches and most powerful.
It was my turn a few hundred years ago. But I was past all that now. My only concern was finding the portal back to our home realm. I had been dispatching spies for many decades. Infiltrating almost every werewolf pack in the country. The most infuriating thing was this werewolf bond nonsense. I had lost a few good soldiers when they claimed to have found their mate. It physically hurt me every time this happened. Most, if not all, of my soldiers were sired by me over the last thousand years. That was how long I had been searching.
The problem was the witches involvement. Just as I got close, they would find a way to contact Seline and the portal would be moved. I was getting impatient. And that was never a good thing. My fairness among my kind was legendary, but so was my temper.
I took myself off to my chambers, everyone knew not to disturb me here. Only the biggest fool would dare knock my door.
(Knock knock)
I pinched above my nose and almost laughed out loud when Elias popped his head around my door.
'hey boss man, I got a story to tell you, if you're interested?'.
I sighed, 'if you're about to go into detail of the whore you fucked last night or the kill you made, then spare me. I'm sick of hearing about trivial crap like that'
Elias's eyes opened wider for a few seconds, then his mouth turned out a smirk that would have seen the devil proud. 'I may or may not have done one or all of those things last night, but that's not the reason I seek you out now. I have news that you must hear Zachary'
This caught my attention, Elias almost never called me Zachary, it was always boss man or big kahuna. Never Zachary. I looked at the eager young creature in front of me, and I almost felt a stirring of feelings long forgotten.
'Speak' I order him.
'well, umm, well...' Elias went on a few seconds more, before I opened my eyes again and stared directly at him. This spurred him on, and he launched into the explanation of how he found out this "news" as I still wasn't convinced. I let him babble on for a few minutes, not wanting to know anything about his private life. It was when I heard the name. That's what got me to my feet. I strode over to Elias and compelled him to tell me the truth. He once again started to repeat his story, but I asked him to skip to the part where she was mentioned.
'I have gotten word that Seline is planning something big to try and destroy us before we find the portal. That must mean we are closed to discovering its home.
'tell me, Elias. Did this source of yours explain what she was planning?' That is the only part of your story I care about, I snapped. I know my tone told him I was losing my patience, so he sped up and finally got to the point.
'I am told Seline has sent her essence down to the werewolves. In preparation of the war, she has foreseen. With the help of the grand Mage himself, they have found a way to bind some of her essence and put it into a werewolf's pup. The talk is that the pup has just been born,' Elias finished. And seemed to wait with trepidation at my next move.
'Do we know which pack will receive the child?' I could tell by the look on his face that this was not known. I pursed my lips in frustration. Closing my eyes for a second. When I opened them again, there must have been something more than usual in them, as Elias took a step back from me. But I had no interest in harming my second in command.
This is not good. If the gods were getting involved in my quest to go home, there was more urgency than ever before.
'We need to sort out a meeting between all factions. I want every one of the sorry creatures here at my hotel within the next forty eight hours. We need to step up our game'.
Nodding once at me, Elias left. I was left with my own thoughts, and this was never a good thing. I was too pissed off at the news the grand mage had helped Selene. I could feel my chest tighten at the thought of her name. She always had that effect on me. Seline, the moon goddess herself. The self righteous bitch that she was. Always thought she was better than all the other gods, Faye, Mage, whatever. She always thought herself top dog, pun intended. So she was finally getting involved. That meant only one thing. I was close.
I picked up my cell phone and spoke to Elias. I needed to know if the talk was true, and if it were, I needed to find out whose pack this baby will be placed with. If it was true, I would dispatch my men into every council member's pack. I would have thought that due to the precious nature of the package, they would want only the highest ranked wolf to raise her.
Once again, I pondered this situation. I needed more information. I needed to talk to the bugs. They would know what was going on. Picking up my cell again, I dialed Elias.
'Get me a meeting with Sophia, make sure she agrees to come here'. Shutting my phone off, I threw it on the lounge chair. I had to get on top of this. If Selene saw fit to enter the fray, then maybe this 'war' she speaks of would lessen the boredom for certain individuals.
With that thought in mind, I returned to the communal living area where Rose was still slumped in the same chair I had left her in.
'Where is your mother, I need to speak to her' Rose looked at me, the contempt that only a teenager could give.
'How the fuck should I know, I'm not HER mother' A moment later, I lifted her out of the chair and threw her against the wall. Grabbing her by her wretched throat, I glared at her as I spoke in a low tone.
'You may have been sired as a fourteen year old, your mother may let you get away with murder. But I am your superior in every way. Do you understand? I could snap your neck now like a brittle twig. Know your place'!
'I'm sorry Zachary. Forgive me? I wasn't thinking it pleased me when Rose or anyone begged me for forgiveness.
'I forgive you Rosie' I called her by her nickname, and I felt her tremble 'I forgive, but never forget'. With that, I pushed her away from me. The only reason she didn't fall was due to the lightening fast reflexes of my kind that were bestowed upon us when we were first created.
I watched as Rose scurried away from me like the frightened little mouse she was. I think it was about time the little Rosie grew up and started fending for herself. I went in search of Charlotte so I could break the news to her that her precious 'child' was being kicked out. I wouldn't phrase it like that of course. But the meaning would still be in whatever bullshit i choose to tell the whore. Smirking at that last thought, I called out her name
