The following morning Genni woke to find she was in bed by herself. Having slept together since Genni had arrived at the Luna Shadow Pack Genni found it disconcerting to wake up on her own. While she dressed she was remembering what Jonas had said to her before she fell asleep. Luna's duties started today and the very first thing she needed to do was choose her Beta. There was only one choice for this really and suddenly excited to go and find her Genni almost didn’t see the note that Jonas left on her bedside table. Opening up the note now Jenny could see that it was an outline of an agenda for today and there was a lot to cover. Culminating in dinner for all of her family that should have been eaten last night. As the explanations got in the way of that.
After checking herself out in the full-length mirror, satisfied Genni left the bedroom and walked into the living area of their apartment only to find Molly and Sara sitting on the sofa talking gently to each other.
“Ha ha”, laughed Ginny “how did you know that I needed to speak with both of you as soon as possible today”? Molly looked up as Genni entered the living area and with a broad smile on her face, she wished her a good morning. “Jonas mentioned to us earlier that you would be looking for us at some point today so when I said that we could meet up with you now, Jonas walked back to the apartment and let us in so we could wait while you woke and got ready for the day. But have no fear there is a fresh pot of coffee in the small kitchen”. Blissfully Grateful to Molly, Genni went to fetch the hot coffee and after offering it to the others, brought it over to the sitting area and sat down. Then all three women had a good old chinwag.
There was a soft knock at the apartment door and upon answering it Genni saw Martha standing outside with a bunch of files in her arms and rushing forward to help her Genni ushered the housekeeper inside and asked her to sit down as they both dropped the files onto the coffee table. “Thank you Luna” said Martha “I had them all stacked neatly until I had to knock on the door, then they all decided to have a life of their own and some went one way and the others went a different way”. All four of the women laughed at this and Genni offered Martha a cup of coffee. Martha declined the coffee as she had only just finished serving the breakfast meal and had drunk multiple coffees this morning she had very little sleep last night as she was too excited to begin helping Genni with her Luna duties.
Genni patted Martha’s hand in understanding then asked what all the files were for.
“Well, as you know your Luna duties will be varied and I find the easiest way to keep track of multiple tasks is to have a note of them written down and filed properly. For instance, this particular file is all to do with the management of house staff and the general running of pack house”. Showed Genni one of the files and then picked up another and stated that this one would list all of the She-wolves and the order in which Genni wanted to start visiting them. Realising that Jenny was very busy at the moment Molly and Sara got up and told their Luna that they would be back later for that chat. Unfortunately for them, Genni was having none of it, “neither of you can go because everything we are about to speak about will involve the two of you”.
Molly and Sara looked back in puzzlement at Genni “Why would your Luna duties involve us” Molly asked. “Please sit back down, I have something I wish to ask both of you”. Molly and Sara immediately sat back down and waited for Luna to speak. “As you know part of my Luna duty is to choose a Beta and Gamma to assist me in the day-to-day running of the pack, they will be by my side and take on the duties that I assign them”. Frowning back at Genni, Sara said “Of course you need a Beta and a Gamma, you’re going to be so busy. I mean, just being a normal Luna would be hard enough but you are a Grand luna and a demigod!” Looking now at Sara, Genni knew she would be the perfect fit so without further ado Genni asked the question.
“Molly as you know I have looked up to you as a mother figure and also a respected warrior of the blue diamond pack for as long as I can remember. I know you were Beta to Sylvia and I also knew that you only had one task and that was to make sure Sylvia looked her best on every occasion even if it was simply walking through the small village”. Nodding at this statement of fact Molly informed the women that unfortunately there was another role she had and that was to cover the tracks of the Ex-Luna while she slept with the unmated members of the pack. The Three women gasped at this, Genni said furiously “Are you serious! You had to lie for Sylvia as she screwed around behind his back? Molly nodded sadly. “You have no idea how hard it was for me to see you every day whether it be at the pack house or my own home with Sara, I wished desperately that I could tell someone what was going on, but I couldn’t as Sylvia used her aura to compel me to obey her”. Smiling softly at Molly Genni asked her question “hearing what you had to say just now shows me that you were indeed a good Beta to Sylvia and she did not deserve your loyalty however. I do have something to ask you both but first, I’d very much like you Molly Urbana to be my Beta”. Do you accept this offer from your Luna? Molly was taken aback at first and with red marks high on her cheekbones she asked Genni if she was serious. “Molly, I need someone I know I can rely on, I need someone I know will have my back in any situation, I need someone like you. So, having said that please consider my offer”. Before Genni could start another sentence Molly knelt in front of her and accepted the offer to be Beta to her Luna. Getting up Molly hugged Genni and told her what a complete honour it was to be chosen for this role. Clapping her hands in excitement and pride at her mother Sara could hardly contain her glee. “Well,” said Genni. “The questions don’t stop there I’m afraid, I am also looking for a Gamma and I believe I have found her”. Genni was looking directly at Sara now, frowning a little Sara seemed confused at what Genni was saying. “Sara, I’m asking if you would be my Gamma. Please consider my offer”. Sara jumped off the sofa and rushed toward Genni she threw her arms around her and told her that, of course, she would accept the offer and the timing was perfect as Sara was turning 18 and would get to meet her wolf in three days. “I didn’t realise your birthday had come around so soon, I’m so sorry Sara, I’ve just been so busy but as you are here with us now please let me throw you an 18th birthday party. Then when you have your first shift it would be an honour to complete the first run with you”. Again, Sara threw her arms around Genni and hugged her best friend tightly.
“Well,” said Martha “that’s that done then” chuckling she gave Molly and Sarah a file each and explained that every morning they would go to Luna’s office and get their instructions for the day or the week “Please write all instructions given by the luna in your file as this will be a record of your activity. And will aid you in inputting all notes into the computers so that Luna can just push a button on her computer and see what is happening”. Sarah was just about to say that they had no computers when Martha continued by telling them that they would each receive a laptop that would be used by them to update their notes daily so that at any given time Luna could see at what stage her projects are.
“Molly, as the new Luna Beta you will essentially be second in command of all Luna duties. Sara, as Gamma you will be responsible for our Luna’s calendar”. Looking a bit out of her depth Sara looked at her Mom and said “So, I’ll be a bit like a secretary”?
Martha looked at Sara and sympathetically explained “Oh, child. The job is so much more involved than that of a secretary. They only follow instructions given to them whereas you will have complete authority over who gets to see the Luna and who doesn’t. All of Luna’s correspondence will go through your office and you will deal with them as you see fit. There will be the usual answering of emails and the such but as you know our Luna so well I’m sure that you could speak on her behalf with a great many issues. You are there to make sure Luna doesn’t get overwhelmed by her duties” When Martha had finished speaking the only response Sara gave was “I get an office? Like a proper office with a desk and a door….”? Genni laughed at this while Molly faced palmed herself with an embarrassed flush on her cheeks.
