While Jonas and I were outside, we met many pack members excited to see their new Grand Luna.
Jonas started to explain the layout of the pack lands. “As you know, the pack house is located at the edge of the Empire Forest, from there the pack lands themselves cover around 100 acres”.
We continued to walk around, and I started noticing houses dotted all over. There must have been more than 50 in this area. I thought it looked like a small village, and when I mentioned this to Jonas, he nodded his head and said “That's exactly what it is. We have four small villages spread over 100 acres. Most families with children live around the Pack school, the same goes for the doctors and nurses, they live around the Pack hospital, and the same again for all our warriors who live around the training facility”. “Wow, I’m impressed.” I say and look on with a sappy look on my face as Jonas looked proudly around him. He loved this place, these people, and it was plain to see.
We continued walking around, and Jonas showed me the neighbourhoods. I loved it, and more pack members became aware that the Grand Luna was outside taking in all the sights.
Jonas introduced me to everyone who dared to address us. Smiling at this, as most of them would never dream of just walking up to their Alpha and starting talking, they all seemed drawn closer in some inexplicable way.
Jonas had started to notice the effect I seemed to have on his pack, and it made his heart swell. seeing me respond to them the way I did. The younger pups would run up to us and start talking. Jonas loved that his pack was comfortable enough to do this. But I also saw a guilty look flash across his face.
He explained quietly that he never seemed to have the time to spend with the youngsters and knew this had to change. He needed to be more hands-on. Nodding at his whispered words, I agreed, but before I could say this, my attention was again drawn away until I was deep in conversation with two she-wolves. I was holding a pup in one arm who had begged to be lifted, and the hand of a toddler in the other. I turned my head slightly to see what Jonas was doing and caught him staring.
Jonas saw me look at him and linked to me to tell me I looked serene and beautiful, holding the future of our pack within my arms. Giving them a moment with their Luna, Jonas decided to stroll up a small hill so he could see farther than he could lower down. When I turned and immediately didn’t see Jonas, I felt a moment of alarm, but I soon found him. I looked at him as he surveyed his Pack. Smiling to myself, I excused myself and handed the pup back to the mother. I walked up to where he was standing, and with an awed expression on my face, I snaked one arm around his waist.
Kissing the top of my head, I felt him sigh. “We will get through all this Jonas, I promise you” trying to sound as sincere as I could. I was about to say something more when I became aware of someone looking for us.
''We need to head back to the Packhouse, Gregory is looking for you, and he seems a little upset”. Just as I finished talking, a very stressed Gregory came into view. Jonas frowned a little at how I knew that.
“Grand Alpha, Grand Luna, I have been trying to mind link you both but found I couldn’t. I started to panic, so made the call to a few of our warriors to be on the lookout for you, but they found someone else, Grand Luna. They say they are here to see you, and it's of the utmost importance...."
I held up my hand and Gregory came to a complete stop in what he was saying. Looking utterly wrapped up in Genni, he could only stare. Jonas did not like this and told Gregory to get back to the pack house and wait for them there. As he had used his Alpha tone, he expected Gregory to bow slightly and go, but Gregory stayed where he was, looking at me, so now Jonas was looking at me and was puzzled by what was going on.
Not only had his Beta completely ignored him, but he also seemed transfixed by me. Taking my hand in his, he tried to get my attention, but before he could, he heard Gregory, HIS Beta, say “Of course, Grand Luna, I will see to it at once”. Bowing low, Gregory shifted into his wolf, Seb, and ran into the forest. “What the hell just happened”? Startled by the tone in Jonas's voice, I turned my head and looked at him. I could see Jonas was starting to feel anger at what he just saw, and demanded I answer him.
“Well”? He said, looking at Me.
Titling my head, I looked at my mate, who was getting angry about something. I didn't know what I had done wrong. While we strolled amid our pack members, Jonas kept telling me as the Luna I had every right to expect respect and complete loyalty.
Therefore, when I had spoken to the Beta and asked him to do something for me, I thought I was within my right. But, by the thunderous look on my mate's face, I had it wrong.
“I thought you said I was now Grand Luna of this pack, and as such wouldn’t I have every right to ask a member of our pack to do something for me? Why are you so angry with me, my love, should I have waited until you dismissed him?”
I was upset now and thought I had overstepped. Bending my neck slightly, Jonas could see I was trying to repent for my actions, and he was mortified at his attitude.
Hadn’t he just thought he would take every day as it comes and support his mate whatever happens, and the first time she does something that perplexed him, he had almost lost his temper?
''Little Wolf'' Jonas said as he pulled me into his arms, “I’m so sorry for what I just said. It was a little freaky to see Gregory ignore me, but answer you, I didn't expect it and I didn’t like it. I’m sorry for being an ass”.
Standing within the circle of my mate's arms, I always felt safe. I rested my head on Jonas’s chest for a few seconds, then asked
''You gave Gregory an order? And he ignored you, but followed my direction? Why didn’t you say this as I was asking him…”.
Before I could finish my sentence, Jonas said, “I couldn’t hear what you were saying to him”. With widening eyes, I looked at him like he had sprouted another head or something.
“But I used the mind link, how could you not hear me?” Leaning back in his arms and looking up into the face of the man I loved, I saw something in his eyes that I didn’t like.
''Come on”, Jonas let me go but held out his hand for me to hold. “We should get back to the pack house to see who is here for you”, he said and started to lead the way back. My head was spinning with a hundred questions, so I allowed Jonas to pull me along with him.
When we reached the pack house, there was an omega standing on the wrap-around veranda waiting for us. I decided to say nothing if I said the wrong thing again.
The omega bowed at us both, then explained that former Grand Alpha Phil had sent her out to explain who was waiting inside for the Grand Luna. Out of anything the young omega could have said to Jonas, he would never have thought he would hear this.
“Grand Alpha, a Mage is waiting inside to speak to our Luna”.
