“There’s a Mage? Here? How could that happen? Why wasn’t I told he had arrived?” So many questions were being fired at the Omega, who was standing frozen in fear at the Grand Alpha’s rising anger. Once again, I held up my hand, and Jonas immediately calmed down.
“My love, this girl does not know the answers to the questions you ask. Let her go and we shall find all the answers together”. I was looking at my mate, I could see that he was calming down.
“What is your name”? I asked the omega. “I’m Sally, Grand Luna, I work in the pack house as a cleaner”. Smiling at this young girl, I spoke softly to her and assured her she wasn’t in trouble.
''Thank you for telling us Sally, you may return to work or home if you have finished”? I looked at Sally and was glad to see the young girl was starting to relax, and even had a shy smile on her face. “Grand Luna, I have more work to do. I can’t believe you are talking to someone like me, so thank you.” Giving a little bow, Sally scurried off to do her remaining work, and Jonas and I walked into the house.
Jonas was very quiet for a moment before he said, “we need to have a chat about that hand thing, little wolf. That’s the second time you’ve held it up and stopped me talking without saying a word". Even though he was frowning slightly, I saw a soft smile play on his lips ''come on, let's see what this Mage wants, shall we?”
When we entered Jonas’s office, we could see an older woman sitting in the chair in front of the desk. Jonas acknowledged his parents, who were sitting on one of the sofas by a large stone fireplace. Gregory, however, was still next to Jonas’s chair, which was pulled out ready for him to sit.
Jonas gestured for me to sit down next to his mother. Rosemary grabbed my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. Phil was smiling lovingly at her, then rose so he could offer his seat to me. This seemed oddly protective of the two older wolves, and it touched my heart. I honestly couldn’t love these people more.
Jonas sat down and placed his forearms on the desk, leaned forward slightly and looked at the older woman sitting in front of him. Speaking in a low tone, that had they not been wolves, they may not have heard him, but Jonas knew this woman would hear him nonetheless.
“Who are you? Why are you here? And how did you get over our boundary without being seen?” Jonas certainly didn’t pull any punches with his opening questions, expecting the older woman to respond as quickly as possible. They were all surprised when the older woman said in a strong clear voice
“I’ll not speak with your wolf, I’ll only speak to Genevieve”! Jonas looked so shocked at her response that he almost lost control of Jax, who was just under the surface struggling to get out so he could kill this insolent witch in front of him. The older women could hear the growls coming from both Jonas and Gregory and boldly stated “you don't scare my wolf, and you'll not stop me from speaking to Genevieve. It's important that I do. I have been sent here by her mother”! I gasped out loud at this, and the older woman turned in her seat to see who was behind her. One looked at me, and she was on her knees bowing and saying almost breathlessly, “Your Grace if I can speak with you? I have information that I am told you will want to hear, alone if we can”! Jonas stood up at this and walked around his desk past the older woman still on her knees, glaring at her as he did so. He quickly reached me and pulled me up so he could hold me in his arms. He looked down at me and toward his parents, who were both frowning and unsure of what they should do.
Phil stood up and walked over to the older women. Although Phil was not the Grand Alpha anymore, when he started speaking, people would usually snap to attention. “As you can see Madam, her family surrounds Genevieve, and we will not be leaving her alone with you now or ever”! Again, the older woman looked up at Phil from her kneeling position and stated calmly, “why don’t we ask Her Grace what she would like to do, wolf”!
The older women had insulted three members of my pack now, and enough was enough. “What is your name”? I asked politely, and the older woman told me immediately, “I am called Hilda, Your Grace”, she answered. I nodded at her, “thank you for telling me. I appreciate your information may be sensitive, but I will not keep secrets from my mate”. So, if you wouldn’t mind sitting back in the chair and telling us why you are here, I would appreciate it. I sat again on the sofa, but this time Jonas was sitting to my right, while Rosemary and Phil were sitting together now on my left.
“Now,” I said with a soft smile, “let’s start with why you are here, shall we?” And please refrain from addressing just me. I would ask that you speak to all of us".
Hilda nodded and told them all she would have to start a few years back to keep what she was going to say in context. When no one said a word, so Hilda carried on.
“I have been told you have now been made aware of who you are and who your mother is, is this right?” I nodded but shifted myself ever so slightly closer to Jonas. Jonas didn’t miss this, so he placed his arm around me and pulled me close. I was glad he understood the silent plea, and thank him by squeezing his thigh.
Yes, I have been told who Sapphire and my mother are, and we also know why we were sent here”. Hilda smiled at this, and it totally transformed her face. She was smiling at them all now, even the “wolves”. “So you know your mother needed the help of the Grand Mage to make it possible for you and your wolf to be born?” When I nodded again, Hilda continued with her story.
“I was also placed in the earthly realm by my deity. My sole purpose for being born and raised was so one day, when the moon goddess’s daughter was ready to take her place, I would be at her side, guiding and protecting”.
At this, Jonas said, with a growl in his voice, “As you can see Mage, Genevieve is well protected, so your services will not be required”! I could see the other people in the office all nodding their heads at what Jonas had just said. They were surprised, however, when I said to them all through the mind link ''I want to hear what this woman has to say, so let her say it''!
The eyes of the people around me showed that their wolves were close to the surface and shining through the eyes of their people. So Sapphire stepped forward and assured our mate and the others that all would be well.
Seemingly happy to have been told by Sapphire, I could feel the wolves backing down. Once the "humans" had control back, I asked Hilda to please continue.
“When the moon goddess asked the grand Mage to help her create you and your wolf, it was known to only a few of my clan. They were charged with finding the human woman to carry you both and to look after her and care for her once you had been born. As you were told, the chosen woman was already in the later stages of cancer and would surely die. Please be assured that the woman was well looked after in the months after you had been delivered, and when she passed she was comfortable and in no pain”. I felt the tears fall as I thanked Hilda for telling me this. The woman that had birthed me and Sapphire were important to us, and to know that when she passed, she was in such good hands and in no pain meant the world. I knew there was something else Hilda had to say, but the mage seemed reluctant to say it. “Please tell us all you know, there is no point in holding back. What is it?” I said coaxingly, I looked at Jonas, who had a worried look on his face, so he also asked Hilda to tell us what was going on.
“Your Grace, we have learnt from our sources that the vampires are unsettled and have rogue issues. There have been quite a few attacks on the humans, and almost all the “kills” have been reborn as vile creatures. We are worried that the fighting between the hybrids that have been foretold for centuries is now coming to pass”.
