A Deadly Game

A Deadly Game
Author's POV

“What do you mean you missed her?” Vivienne asked.

She was standing by the lake, guards standing in front of her, council members standing behind her.

“She was definitely in that inn! I had it confirmed!” She added, pointing hands at the guards who stood before her.

“You all are incompetent!” She gritted.

“Now leave my sights!” She ordered, and they quickly left, not without bowing their heads.

“My Lady, please calm down” one of the council members held Vivienne who refused to stay calm.

“I was so rest assured that they would be able to kill her, but what?” She scoffed. “They brought stories to me”

Her face was still filled with anger, she left the lake, heading back to the penthouse in disappointment.

“Sylvia…..that bitch just kept escaping death, but I won't give up, not until I see the end of her!” Vivienne said into her thoughts.

The Assassin Creed was also not left out in disappointment as none of their assassins had returned. The leader had sent someone to search for them, and they had been found in the woods.

Their corpses were laid before the leader, as she gritted her teeth, clenching her jaws under her veil.

Six assassins, gone. All in the name of killing Sylvia.

She wasn't going to let it slide, wasn't going to back off until she had made sure that she's dead.

Now, it doesn't matter who kills her, what matters is seeing her dead.

“Prepare new sets of assassins to be on the hunt for her” she ordered the man who was standing behind her.

“Once they find her, I want a report.” She said, “And if she slips away before they get her killed, then I'll kill everyone of you myself” she added.

The man bowed, heading out to carry the order out.

Valen was the only one in distress about the whole thing. He was seated in his room, hands tapping the table as he thought of where Sylvia could be at the moment, what she was doing, if she was hurt, or if she was ever going to come back to him.

A knock which came on the door snapped him out of his thoughts. His gaze went to the door, and without giving a response, the door opened, Rodrigo stepping in.

“Apologies, Alpha” he bowed. “I couldn't bring Sylvia back,” he said.

“Did you see her at all?” Valen asked, masking his disappointment.

“No, Alpha. When I got to the inn near the outskirts, I found out that she lodged, and had left the inn when our soldiers had infiltrated in the morning” he explained.

“Our soldiers?” Valen asked with a darkened gaze.

He hadn't ordered any soldier to look for Sylvia, the only person he told that to was Rodrigo who had it done secretly.

“Yes, Alpha. Lady Vivienne had formed her own army from the pack's soldiers” Rodrigo said.

Valen chuckled darkly. “Interesting”

Rodrigo continued. “I followed her scent deeper into the woods, and found assassins” he paused. “Five dead on the floor, but Sylvia was nowhere to be found”

“Only the scent of her blood was what I got” he added.

Valen's throat tightened, his fingers curling around his trouser with force.

“You mean…you lost her scent too?” Valen asked.

“Yes, Alpha” Rodrigo replied, bowing apologetically.

“And just when I was coming back, I saw Vivienne having a talk with the council,” Rodrigo said. “Though I didn't get the details of their conversation, I know they won't leave Sylvia alone,” he added.

Valen went silent for a while.

Sylvia was in danger, being chased by Vivienne and assassins.

Valen knew she wouldn't want to move to other packs as they had been said to be on the lookout for her too. She wouldn't risk getting caught again.

The only thing she could do was stay in the woods there. But surviving as a rogue was difficult; it had always been.

And she was surely injured, might not be able to make it past the next attacks those people throw at her.

Everything around her was a threat.

Valen stood up, heading out of the room as Rodrigo followed behind.

In a minute, he assembled the soldiers in the penthouse, his gaze darting between each and everyone of them.

From their looks, he could see the few who had rebelled against him, but he didn't address it.

It wasn't time.

The council members and Vivienne had also heard about the Alpha assembling the guards and had rushed out to see what it was about.

“A wanted criminal who was bound for execution had escaped, finding shelter in the woods” Valen started. “Sylvia, a maid of mine”

“She was last found heading south a few hours ago, I'll pick out a few of you and we'll search for her, killing her on sight” Valen added.

Vivienne was surprised. Valen was going to kill Sylvia?

Valen picked out the guards he wanted to go with him, intentionally picking one of the guards Vivienne had bought to her side so they wouldn't feel suspicious.

This was his plan; to search for Sylvia with the help of the guards and bring her back.

But if he openly announces that, Vivienne would only hasten her plan and try to get Sylvia killed again, he didn't want to risk that so he rather said he would have her killed himself.

“Now, get prepared” he said to the guards, then headed back to his room, pretending not to see Vivienne and the council members looking from a distance.

The moment he got into his room and Rodrigo followed him in, he grabbed his sword, unsheathing it as he watched the shining metal.

“Alpha, you just said we would be killing her on sight” Rodrigo said, his voice in a little bit of frenzy.

And he had seen the Alpha pick one of Vivienne's guards, that guy would surely kill Sylvia the moment he saw her if he was alone.

Valen didn't look up from his sword. “Stay calm, Rodrigo,” he said. “I know the game I'm playing”

Then he looked up, his eyes a mixture of something deadly and dangerous.

A game between him, Sylvia and the people who want her dead.

It would be nice if everyone could grab a bowl of popcorn.
