The Pack Healer

The Pack Healer
Sylvia's POV

My gaze squinted open, bright lights hitting my face.

The way everything was bright made me realize I was in the moon goddess’s palace. But do all dead people appear here after their death?

“You're awake” That didn't sound like a goddess's voice, instead it was a man's.

Fully fluttering my eyes open, my gaze landed on a long hairy man sitting on a stool beside me.

I blinked.

Then my gaze darted around the room, realizing that there were many other people in the room.

Men, women, children.

My gaze scanned their dressing and I gasped, realizing that they were rogues.

“Who….are you?” I lifted myself off the bed, standing up so quickly.

Glad they placed my sword beside me.

I pointed it towards them and the man on the stool chuckled.

“We never expected you to wake up. We didn't have a physician among us, so all I could do was bandage your wounds” he said.

My gaze went to my body and truly, he had taken care of my wounds.

“Relax. We mean no harm”  another man said.

“I'm surprised. The wound in your belly should have killed you” a woman said.

I sighed, sitting back on the bed, dropping my sword after I was sure they weren't monsters.

Not all rogues are monsters.

“I'm surprised too,” I muttered to myself.

“We couldn't find a physician and your wounds aren't really taken care of. Are you sure you will be fine?” The man on the stool asked.

“I'll take care of myself” I stood up from the bed, staggering to a quiet side to see the wounds.

I unwrapped the bandage around my belly with a groan, pulling my shirt up and my gaze landed on the stab wound.

It was closing already, though blood still stung into it like clots.

I cleaned the wounds, dropping the bandage beside me. I summoned energy from inside me to heal my wounds and even though I was weak, it still worked.

Though the wound didn't close up completely, it stopped hurting like crazy.

“You're the Moon Blood Queen” a woman had appeared beside me, the others following suit.

I didn't deny it, nor did I admit it.

My gaze darted around the people again, this time more carefully. They were mostly physically injured, and even some were battling with emotional injury.

Like the woman who stood in front of me.

Just like they had saved me, I could save them too.

I decided to respond to the woman's words. “Yeah, I am. I'm the phantom Queen”

Like everyone of them including the children knew who that was, they bowed and I could feel their hardened minds turning into reliefs.

“You all have injuries, I'll take care of you” I told them.

A child stepped forward and reached me before his mother could stop him.

He was limping, his legs barely able to steady him.

“Queen. Will you be able to cure this too” the child asked, pointing to his legs.

I smiled and ruffled his hair. “I would surely be able to”

A wide grin appeared on his face. “And this?” He pointed to his fingers.

He had five complete fingers, but one of them was bent in an unusual way, rendering the finger useless.

“I'll try, kid” I told him.

He jumped up despite his limp and almost fell when his mother grabbed him.

“Thank you, healer,” she said. “No one has ever told us they will try”

I smiled as she walked back to where she and her child were standing.

Healer. It was the first time I was being called that.

The very first time ever when I've wanted to be called this all my life.

“You should get some rest first. I'm sure you are more than exhausted” the woman who appeared to be the oldest said.

I was led back to the bed, while the people went back to their daily activities.

Some went to hunt for animals, some sat down while making the fire, and the children cracked jokes which I couldn't help but laugh at because they were so good.

For two days, I was made to rest, the rogues taking care of me like I was one of them. I couldn't be less grateful to have a family again.

It made me recall mine, and the way they had died. And behind everything was a man I had stupidly thought I could let everything go for.

After two days, I had regained all of my strengths, having been fed delicious and healthy meals.

“Now, let's heal you” I smiled.

And they all went on a line, wanting to make things orderly.

The adults were the first, their physical wounds getting healed that one would think nothing had ever happened to them there before.

“Wow…this looks like a dream” someone said, after the dagger stab in his knees was healed.

The others too were cured, and those who were emotionally damaged too were also cured.

They had been emotionally down because of what people had done to them, the holes they've left in their hearts, and the betrayals they've caused them.

I cured the children's illness and injuries too, and the kid named Ramin was the last I cured.

I smiled at him as he approached me.

“Hey, kid. Ready?” I asked and he nodded cheerfully.

I focused my energy, closing my eyes as I could feel the change inside of me.

I had been using my energy for the past hour, but hadn't felt it because I had taken enough rest.

Healing Ramin was also convenient, as I directed the surge of energy towards him. The young boy felt nothing, except from the fact that something was leaving his body.

He had his eyes closed, like he was scared that this was gonna hurt, but it didn't.

When he opened his eyes, I was already done. I held his hand, my hand caressing his fingers and when I left him, he gasped.

He walked around in surprise, no limp, just like a normal kid would.

Everyone was surprised, but also filled with joy.

“Thank you, Queen,” the little boy giggled.

Glad I could make them happy.

“Thank you, healer!” Everyone chorused, bowing their heads.

“Now we have a pack, and even a pack healer” a man laughed, making every other person join in too.

That was the best thing that had ever happened to me in months.

Having a place to call a pack, people to call family, and even being called a pack healer.
