Amelia's POV

I decisively took off my disguise, making it clear to everyone who could see me that I was the lunar through and through. I knew that it would only be a matter of time before the alpha got wind of my location and started trying to get through to me. But that didn't really change the fact that I was already certain what I wanted to do. And the reason why I took off this disguise at all was simply so that it wouldn't be too difficult for them to attend to me. Indeed, they gave me precedence, but I wasn't quite sure that was a good thing or a bad thing anymore because it meant that I would figure out what was wrong. All right, I would know the truth, so not as I was originally supposed to, and just the method of that was enough to make me tremble in trepidation.

"It's a bad thing," I told myself internally. But I already knew that it meant something more than I could handle right now, not with my current mental state. "It's a lot of responsibility," I told myself, as if I already figured out what the solution was even though the test hadn't come yet.

I kept on waiting, knowing fully well that the doctors and medical practitioners were doing all they could to help in order to get back to me as quickly as possible. At least I wouldn't wait needlessly. If I could leave here before the alpha came to get me, then it would actually be for the best because I didn't want any issues concerning him right now.

I got a knock on the door of the room I was in that got me frowning. Such formalities! I was pretty sure they wouldn't knock if they knew—if they thought that I was not the owner.

"Come in," I said, and the doctor entered, his hands trembling with a piece of paper in it. My stomach dropped because I knew pretty much the answer even though he hadn't said it explicitly yet. His hands were trembling—it was enough sign, enough proof of what the truth was. The only thing being that right now it was rather hard to accept it for me.

"What is it?" I questioned after looking at the paper and putting it away.

"You might want to read it yourself," he suggested, holding it out to me again.

I frowned a bit, but since that was his honest suggestion, I didn't see why I shouldn't give it a try. I started reading through, but soon my eyes glazed over the paper. It was just too much jargon. Too much unimportant things. In the first place, I found it hard to understand. In the second place, I simply didn't want to read it any longer because of how much pressure it was mounting on me.

"You are pregnant," he announced when he saw my eyes on him. My breathing ceased for a moment as I stared at him in disbelief.

"Yes, you are, you are," he said, his voice taking on a sing-song tune. He looked like he was about to break out and dance, but I raised a hand up to stop him.

"Alright, I understand," I told him, thoughts filling my mind. Someone would have thought that I had already worried about it enough before confirming—that the various possibilities were already in my mind and I could have already composed myself despite what the answer would be. But contrary to that, I was very apprehensive even now, and I seemed to have descended into another round of worry altogether.

"Don't worry, pull yourself together. Everything will be just fine," I told myself as I looked around, me and the doctor here.

"I'm leaving now," I said. "Don't tell anybody that I've been here," I commanded strictly.

There was a brief silence as he stared at me in shock.

"Do you understand?" I asked him, simply annoyed at him already because of all he had done.

"Of course, of course, I understand," he proclaimed.

"Good," I told him. I started leaving altogether.

As I stepped a foot out of the hospital, I saw a car parked with such a design that I felt a little suspicious about the motive of the person inside, whoever it was. Someone stepped out even as I was starting to judge who he could be, but upon seeing him, my heart stopped entirely—not the alpha himself, but his best man, someone that I treasured a lot personally, someone I valued more than a lot of other guys.

"Yes, it's me," he responded simply with a slight nod. "How are you doing?" he asked me. "The alpha got your information the moment you stepped into this hospital," he said with a slight laugh.

"Nothing funny about it," I responded gruffly.

He nodded solemnly. "Well, that's where I come in. I knew how this could go and that you might not want to meet with the people he sent—cold, unfeeling robots called soldiers or guards—so I decided to come first. The alpha and I went in a faster vehicle. I don't know if you want to come with me," he questioned, raising an eyebrow apprehensively.

He seemed like he would be pretty fine if I decided not to come with him, but I could see the truth in his eyes. Even though he was very good at hiding it, he wasn't fine at all, and he really wanted me to come with him—like desperately really wanted me to come with him. I couldn't help but laugh a little at this guy. Whether or not he was actually in love with me, I would never be able to figure it out.

"Where are we going?" I questioned.

He smiled at me and responded, "I will be taking you back to the palace. That's where the alpha wants you to be. I don't really think it's a good idea for you to keep on trying to run."

"Run," I whispered slowly, my voice barely audible. That's not what I was trying to do. I thought about it, but I really couldn't figure out what was in my own mind or my own true intentions. Maybe a nice heart-to-heart with this man himself was going to tell me the truth about myself and my emotions. Maybe I would figure a lot of other things out after engaging in a conversation with him privately. And we were definitely going to have that conversation if I left here with him right now.

"Alright, I'm coming in," I told him. The smile on his face, the way it bloomed, was the one thing that made me happy all of a sudden—simply because of how happy he was, how happy I had managed to make him with just simple words.

I entered into the car and started waiting for him.

"Put your seatbelt on," he said. "I'm gonna go cruising and it's going to be fun, trust me," he even announced.

I shook my head at him in disbelief. I was pretty sure that the beta of the alpha was not supposed to ever go cruising, but maybe I could do with the fun today, as long as he didn't bring us into an accident, of course. As long as that was settled, then I would pretty much be fine.

The car started when the key was in. He focused on the driving for the first minutes of the journey back to the palace. Then he started talking with me. His words were very sincere but apologetic at the same time.

"I'm sorry for what I did. I shouldn't have said anything," he started.

I hadn't been expecting an apology yet. He spoke freely, and I'd rather he didn't, so I waved it off, shaking my head. "There's no need to apologize. What you did was good. It was high time I stopped living in closed ignorance, like it had been for so long," I told him.

He looked at me, a hurt expression in his eyes. "Things were going so well. I'm afraid maybe I was just a bit jealous and I was just feeling the most," he said. "I'm sorry if my intentions weren't pure."

I was silent, not giving him a positive or negative response because I didn't even know how to react. "Your motives were... regardless of them, the deed had been done," I said. "And I would like to thank you. Whatever your motives were, I really need to thank you for opening my eyes to see what had been right in front of me that I was just too blind to see for some reason," I told him.

There was a silence as we drove, the car continued surging forward. Both of us lost in our own thoughts, with me particularly wanting to open up more, but not knowing if my heart was ready.
