Hundred and Fifteen
Hundred and Fifteen
Thrian's POV
I feel like I would explode simply out of anger and rage, looking at my captive and hearing him tell me that he had no idea where she was. It was about the most annoying ever. Why did he think that I was leaving him alive? Did he think that I wouldn't, that I would hesitate to kill him? Because I wouldn't - I would end his life here and now. He was no longer useful to me.
I growled at him, trying to convey my warning without words. However, he wasn't Amelia, he wasn't Riker, and as the result of that, he couldn't know - even if I told him straight to his face. Seeing his oblivious expression, I knew it was pointless trying to pass my information across to him with words. I raised my claws up, wanting to end his life, but someone stopped me as my claw descended, with his own in a defiant move that was totally opposing my own. I frowned - who would dare question the alpha? Who would stop me from killing someone that I wanted to kill? Whoever that person was, he better have a pretty good reason for doing it, or he had better have a lot of strength to defeat me in battle. Not just strength - he needed to have an army of his own also, because I would fight him with everything I had, and that included a lot of different tools, anything at my disposal just to teach that guy a lesson.
But when I saw who it actually was, I found myself hesitating a little. I stood there, stone-still. It was Ryka, his facial expression very similar to mine.
"We shouldn't kill him," he said. Simple words, but I knew just how true they were. He was saying it out of care for me, and also out of sensibility. He was saying that I shouldn't kill someone who had so much political importance. Sure, he may not have much importance to me personally, but to his dad, he was everything. In a serious context, I probably shouldn't - it isn't so easy unless I was ready for a war, and right now, I wasn't quite sure how ready I was for that course to take place.
Davis, on his part, had his eyes very wide now, looking at me in surprise. "You would have killed me just now?" he asked, and I didn't tell him anything. There was nothing for me to say - he pretty much already had my answer because yes, I would. I wouldn't even have hesitated. The only reason why he was still alive at all was because of Ryka, who had stopped me.
"You should be a little more careful yourself," I told him. "Careful with who you play with, with your words, and also careful how you treat others and talk with people in positions of power."
I turned to someone beside me and gave my orders. "Make sure you hold him - it's your life for his own," I declared. "If you let him escape by some stroke of luck or by some mistake on your part, you are going to regret it."
I looked at Davis and glared at him. "Don't worry, you can be sure, you should be certain that I'll get back to you and that you'll be punished for all this," I breathed. He looked scared now. Maybe the prospect of almost dying just a moment ago was finally starting to dawn on him, and he now knew just how precarious his current situation was.
"You are not important to me at all," I told him simply to make him more afraid, "and at the same time, you are obviously not going to be of any help in finding Amelia, which makes you even less important." I turned to look at my soldiers. "Look for her anywhere, everywhere!" I commanded simply, going on with my commands. "Do everything to find her and bring her here as soon as possible. The person who gets her first is going to get a huge sum," I told them.
My incentive seemed to be the one that had them going. Of course, they would have no choice but to obey me in the first place, but with the incentive that I had given, they were a lot more receptive to my command, and they weren't any longer looking gloomy and sad. Afterwards, I let them go like arrows sent out of a quiver of olden times.
I had so many people looking for her. Wherever she was now, she couldn't be that far. It was improbable that it was possible for her to have gone so far away. Don't you think she was captured by one person or another? My eyes darted around as I started moving myself about to look for her because I couldn't leave it to my soldiers simply. Goodness me, how effective were they anyway? And I was not interested in leaving the safety of my beloved to them.
I wouldn't have been too limited, of course. I had a mating bond with her, so personally, I thought that me looking for her would be much more effective than the others also looking for her on their parts. The feelings seemed to be coming from all directions, not getting any coordinates, not any sense. It was simply a little blood rush in my head.
I asked myself where she was. Well, it's rather unprecedented in the history books for there to be a way of finding out where my mate is simply by the mating bond, I thought to myself, giving it an excuse for not working, though I really thought that it should work out according to my little plan.
All of a sudden, even as I was still thinking and wondering where she was, I heard a rustle in the bushes. I didn't feel apprehensive at all. Instead, I felt some strange feeling, well, a calling of some sort. My eyes widened in anticipation. I knew just who it could be, and how I wished I could see her as soon as possible because she was the one I had been looking for for so long now.
"Amelia!" I called, rushing to meet her even before I saw her. Her response was my name also, sounding small but extremely cute on her tongue. I found myself smiling as I held her in my arms, glad to have the opportunity to do this again because I wouldn't have expected such an opportunity to arise once again, not until a very long search had taken place. But here it was happening, and I was getting my heart's desire on a platter of gold.
She hugged me tightly, and I couldn't help but feel the desperation, the need, the sadness, and also the joy in her touch. She was going through a lot, much more than I would want to go through at a time personally, but I was glad that I was with her right now, and I was going to help her through it.
"Are you fine?" I asked her, raising an eyebrow and looking at her seriously. She didn't say anything. Instead, she pulled me in once again and put her head on my chest. I didn't know how to react exactly to this behavior, but I wasn't about to push her away. She probably was feeling a bit too much to put in words right now. I would let her. If this was what brought her joy once again, if this was what would help her one way or another, then I was going to definitely do everything I could to help.
"You have no idea what he did, what he said he would do, what he tried," she started, her voice breaking at intervals.
"Hush," I said in response, my tone very soft, softer than it had ever been, as much as I could remember. "Don't worry, you don't need to say anything," I continued, rocking her in my arms. "I'm here now and it's over. I've captured him and he's going to pay for everything," I told her.
I felt her relaxing a little, and her breathing became softer. With a frown, I realized that she was actually asleep right now, so suddenly and so swiftly that I really didn't know what to say. It was such a switch and twist. But I soon gathered my wits and started taking her back to meet the rest at the little camp that we had made.
I would take her home now. We had victory. What more could we ask for?
