Chapter 52 THREE HOURS OF SILENCE
Lucian's POV
For 3 hours she hadn't said a word.
She took the news of that woman's pregnancy like a physical blow, falling towards my body. I had immediately held and adjusted her holding her as she took in sharp quick breaths.
"Congratulations," she snipped out to them then she was out the door.
We returned to the guest room that we were occupying but she had not said anything after that word.
She continued to look into space, constantly clenching and unclenching her fingers.
I remained by her side not pressuring her but letting her know that my presence was there and ready to support when she needed it.
Then she stood up without any warning and turned to me.
"Let's go for a run,"
I hadn't realized how much time had passed and now as we stepped out the sun was already going to sleep and the moon would soon rise up.
An entire day had gone by and we had not yet begun the investigation to prove her innocence, with that pregnancy they could hide behind it like a wall avoiding the case.
It was clear to all and sundry, which was why she could not even bring up what that woman Medeah had done and use it to blackmail them.
My wolf was also riled up. I don't know when I became so attached to what had happened to her here but sometimes when I looked at her I could see the woman who had fought tooth and nail to keep everything in her life and yet lost it all building up from the scraps.
I admired her resilience, everything about her told me that she would make a good queen Luna for me.
But first we had to overcome this new hurdle.
She continued to run, her speed was impressive but I don't think she was fully aware of her surroundings as she should have been. I smelled traces of blood in the air coming from her. She was running so fast that she was probably injuring herself and yet didn't stop.
I tried to mind link her, but it wasn't reading out she was lost in his own that was too far for me to reach and the smell of blood was becoming heavier in my nostrils so I ran faster until I was able to leap off a rock, landing on her with just enough pressure to stop her but obviously not using all of my weight so that I wouldn't crush her.
I planted my paws at both sides of her face, her eyes seemed to finally come into focus and she saw me then she turned to the side taking deep sharp breaths.
Even with her wolf features I could see how distraught she was.
I stayed in that position for a while until her heart was beating at a normal rhythm then I stepped away and both of us shifted out of our wolf forms.
She walked over to a fallen branch sitting on top, the injuries from how the wolf had transferred from her pulse to her palms, and blood trickled down but she hardly acknowledged if it wasn't even there.
"You're bleeding," I pointed out, walking over to her and raising her palm.
"I am?" She said her voice between disinterest and confusion, "Don't worry it will heal eventually and-"
"I know you're going to heal..."I said, my voice pitching higher than I wanted it to, "... But I don't want you hurting yourself."
She smiled but it didn't reach up to her eyes.
"This is just how I let out the stress when it gets a little too much. It's better than bottling it up right?"
I stared at the woman sitting in front of me, she had been broken into so many different pieces and yet managed to pull herself together every time, but the cracks were still undeniably there.
I was in no position to police how she chose to cope with her pain, in the end what bonded us was a contract.
So what business of mine was it if this was how she kept it together?
As long as she was confident and bold enough to face the high-ranking Lycans I shouldn't bother with how she patches herself up before or afterwards.
Indeed, seeing her bleed shouldn't have the effect that it does on me. I'm no stranger to blood..so .. why...why does it feel like I'm the one bleeding instead of her?
"I don't want you to bottle things up but there has to be another way..."I said sitting next to her, "Just like there has to be another way to take care of this new problem."
Her eyes brightened just a little bit but it was like a weight had been lifted off my chest when I saw her like that, I picked her up princess style and she looked surprised.
"I don't want you to run back when you are bleeding like this," I said to her and she didn't argue she just relaxed herself on me and it felt great actually I didn't even mind the distance that we had run through the acres of land belonging to her ex.
Eventually, she fell asleep, it was nice that she was comfortable enough to do that. By the time I reached the house the whole place had gotten darker.
I was already halfway through the living room when Raphael appeared, he was still wearing that annoying green that I wanted to punch out of his face so badly.
"Lucian, I don't think I've gotten a congratulations from you yet and..." He stopped when he saw who I was holding a muckle in his jaw visibly tugging.
"From one man to another, I think I should warn you about this woman she-"
I brushed past him making sure that there was no physical contact between him and Celestia.
"Watch your tongue, Raphael, she isn't 'that' woman. She is my woman and I won't tolerate your disrespect another time."
